Disney’s Art of Animation Resort: A Disney World Resort Review
Alright, so here is the deal. Whether you have kids or not Art of Animation is a sure must. Although it is considered a Value Resort it still falls in line with a more expensive option on Walt Disney World property. Art of Animation is considered to be in the Wide World of Sports Resort Area along with Pop Century. Kids love this awesome resort, because of the character themed rooms, but of course adults do too, because well you know, the character themed rooms.
Art of Animation has two types of rooms to choose from, family suites and standard rooms. (Note: there are no preferred rooms at this resort.) Family suites can be enjoyed in three different character styles, Cars theme, Finding Nemo theme or Lion King theme. And of course your standard rooms are decorated Little Mermaid theme.
No matter which room type you choose you will not be disappointed. The Little Mermaid rooms (or standard rooms) are bigger than the traditional Value Resort rooms (not by much, maybe 17 square feet) and of course the suites pack a punch with a living space and beds that sleep up to 6 people.
The theming is definitely strong at this resort so make sure you wear your sunglasses for all of the bright colors and be ready to see a lot of character theming. Nearly everything in the room will be themed, from the Little Mermaid shower curtains, to the sea floor carpeting, to the sea-shell-back chairs. Kids who love the Little Mermaid will be in awe, but the colors and theming are probably too bright for some people to enjoy.
Did you know that when building Art of Animation the project used 23,000 gallons of paint, which is enough to fill a typical backyard swimming pool. Yep! True story! This resort is, oh so colorful, and full of character, Disney characters that is!
Art of Animation has some of the most amazing pools! At 310,000 gallons, Art of Animation’s Big Blue Pool is the largest resort pool on property. Yeah, pretty amazing, huh?! This pool is pretty amazing, under the water you’ll hear music accompanied by the voices of Dory, Nemo, and friends .But that isn’t the only pool Art of Animation has! Two others are located in the Cars section and Little Mermaid section.
Art of Animations dining options are pretty simple. You have two options actually, poolside at the Drop Off Pool Bar, that serves beverages and snacks. Then you have Landscape of Flavors, where you can find a simple quick service meal that will accommodate any palette.
Or my personal favorite, you can always opt for pizza delivery or room service.
Art of Animation is just a hop skip and a jump from Pop Century resort, actually just across the bridge. You can walk across the bridge and enjoy all Pop Century Resort has to offer too. One year while my family and I were staying at Pop Century we walked across the bridge and enjoyed everything Art of Animation had to offer. We ate a quick service meal and walked around enjoying all of the Cars themed characters while the kids took pics with the famous cars from the movie. Check out a full map of Art of Animation property!
Art of Animation has a bus service that is a hop, skip and a jump to all four parks. Straight shot to and from the parks!
Should I choose Art of Animation or not?
So here is the lowdown.
Art of Animation is best for families that want to stay on Disney property and take advantage of on-site property perks. Art of Animation is designed for families of four or more. Pricing is higher but the benefits are the kitchenette, queen bed in the master bedroom and single door leading outside. Standard rooms are best for those that will appreciate the bright Little Mermaid themes, such as a little girl with a huge love for The Little Mermaid!
With it’s over the top theming, Art of Animation isn’t the best choice for those looking for a quiet, subdued vacation. Suite pricing is also significantly higher than rooms at other Moderate resorts or the Family Suites at All-Star Music. As I said before, even though Art of Animation is considered a Value Resort, these rooms aren’t Disney’s least expensive accommodations.
