So, I’m sure as you can imagine we pulled everything out of the house that could hurt her in any way. We take every precaution we can and watch everything she eats, constantly. Not only that, but she is constantly on the lookout for her predators.

She knows what can happen to her, so she takes extra precautions as well. So with that being said, we are very careful, EXTREMELY CAREFUL, when we go away from the house, especially out of town. We do not take our dining experiences away from home lightly, we take them very, very seriously!

How to Prepare for Food Allergies at Disney

We feel very secure when it comes to our Disney vacation and allergies.

Before we go on a Disney trip, before making any reservations we check the menus and make sure we are aware of everything that could be harmful to her. If you have ever made any reservations at Disney, I’m sure you are aware they ask you to checkmark anything that anyone may be allergic to at the time of your visit. When you arrive they check the allergies, when you are seated they double check and then send a chef to your table to even triple check!

How Disney Stepped Up Dealing with Food Allergies

Of all the years and times we have gone to Disney we have only had one problem with their system. Even though there were issues, they made it right. It can be very scary having allergies like that.

We use our best judgment for sure but, do feel more secure going to Disney knowing they put such effort into making everyone comfortable. We have definitely had more positive experiences than negative. If anything, my daughter thinks it is so cool that the chef comes to her table and talks to her. She finds that more exciting than seeing actual characters at her table.

One year when we were visiting Tusker House in the Animal Kingdom for lunch, there were not many desserts my daughter could eat, AT ALL. The chef was worried about cross contamination so he brought her a whole brown sandwich bag full of Gluten-Free, allergy-free packaged snacks and desserts (they didn’t sell or serve at Tusker House) that were safe for her to eat. He went over and beyond! We were grateful as well as my daughter, she for sure did not go without!

The quick service meals are a little tricky but with a little research, a little asking a cast member, and a little reading labels, it is possible. We have always had a great experience and will continue to keep going with my daughter’s allergies. We still use our best judgment and take her EpiPen, but we find comfort in knowing Disney takes such a big effort to make all of their visitors comfortable. Below, we’re sharing our Top Tips for Rainy Days at Disney World, to help you know how to turn every cloud into pixie dust. We’re including must-pack items, what to expect at different times of year and best places and rides to wait out the rain.

Know Before You Go: Understanding Weather at Walt Disney World

To those of you who are not familiar with Florida weather, just know it can be beautiful one minute, but in another, it can look like doomsday. No exaggeration. The sky can change color and you catch yourself in a torrential downpour.

We’re not talking about a light rain that will get your hair a bit damp. We’re talking rain like someone is throwing bucket after bucket of water on you – 20 seconds and you’ll be soaked through your clothes.

If you come prepared you’re going to have a much better trip than if you just wing it.

I come from the deep South, so we are accustomed to this weather. But for people who are not familiar with it, it can seem downright scary. You can guarantee in the summer months that there will usually be a rainstorm right around 3:00 pm every afternoon. And I mean every afternoon! It will usually go away as fast as it came, but you need to be prepared!

Before you go, it’s important to know what to expect at the time of year that you are travelling and pack the right rainy day essentials!

Our 8 Rainy Day Tips: Overview

1. Follow our packing list, including packing multiple cheap dollar-store ponchos for each person — they’re lightweight and disposable.
2. Check weather apps in the morning when you’re at the resort, then spend a few minutes each day reviewing your plans and making adjustments based on the weather.
3. Start days early with outdoor rides/characters, then switch to indoor attractions mid-day and use dining/shows to wait out rain.
4. Rent park entrance lockers ($10–$15/day) to stash wet clothes, dry outfits, or heavy bags.
5. Download or print off our list of ALL indoor rides and attractions so you’re not scrambling when the clouds roll in.
6. Plan late lunches or nap times around the worst times for rain – typically between 2-4pm.
7. Expect outdoor rides and transport (ferry/monorail) to pause for lightning/heavy rain; indoor rides surge in waits. Have alternate plans if you need transport during rainy seasons.
8. Know where fun indoor areas are – like the play area inside Dumbo’s tent at Magic Kingdom, the shop stalls in Mexico’s pyramid or aquarium in Epcot, etc. These are good options if you don’t want to wait in ride lines or grab a bite to eat during the rain.

Bonus tips:

• Pools close during heavy rain/lightning; plan naps or resort time around storms.
• Keep a positive attitude — puddles can be fun for kids, and rain often means shorter lines as other park goers head back to the resorts!

What Weather to Expect at Disney World

Here’s what to expect from Florida weather. Know that the rain is typically high-intensity but short-lived. Meaning it will create delays or interruptions to your plans, but the rain typically won’t last the whole day.

• Summer: Warm, humid, afternoon thunderstorms nearly every day.
• Fall & Spring: Slightly milder temps with occasional showers.
• Winter: Colder fronts can bring sustained rain and lower temps.

What to Pack for the Rain

Ponchos

First things first, go to the dollar store and stock up on those $1 rain ponchos. They are so cheap that you can throw them away and not worry about them for the rest of your trip. I say this because they do not dry out easily; you are forewarned. Again, learn from my mistakes. Throw that sucker away and pull out a new one.

Buy a lot of these $1 ponchos! They will not take up much space in your luggage. You may need another one for the second day of your vacation, so don’t forget to pack multiples for each family member. I usually pick up at least two every time I shop at The Dollar Tree, even if we aren’t planning a Disney World trip soon. (Who am I kidding?! We are always planning a Disney World trip!)

Rain Jackets

I also recommend purchasing a few really good-quality, thick ponchos or rain jackets for days when it doesn’t quit raining fast or when it rains all day. Our family isn’t afraid to brave Disney in the rain as long as we are armed with ponchos and rain boots. If you don’t have rain boots or shoes that dry quickly, buy some of those too.

Stroller Cover

Another good thing to purchase would be a stroller cover. Nothing is worse than a wet stroller or a fussy kid screaming because the rain is slapping them in the face as you hurry across the parking lot to get to your car or bus.  

Again, learn from my mistakes. This really did happen. Actually, one twin was laughing because he thought it was hilarious, and the other screamed. He was not a happy camper. If you rent a stroller, most companies will offer this as a complimentary add-on. Definitely, request a cover if it’s an option.

Also invest in a waterproof bag for your diapers and dry clothes. etc. No matter how much you cover the stroller, something is bound to still get wet. So secure those belongings in a waterproof Ziploc or camping bag.

Water-resistant Bag Covers

These can be used to cover your electronics, wallets, and other important items that you might have with you that you are worried about getting wet.

Extra Shoes/Water-Resistant Shoes

We always bring two pairs of shoes for everyone, just in case the first pair doesn’t dry overnight. Crocs are always good for kids when it’s raining in Disney – some people love Tevas because they dry out quickly, too.

I haven’t used shoe covers yet but I did buy some for our next trip and will report back!

Bonus Item: Portable Fan

If we’re driving, we always take a portable fan with us so we can dry out everything that got wet that day. It’s nice to have strollers and “stuff” that are completely dry the next day.

If you are flying this isn’t an option, but you can always use the blow dryer – I am definitely ordering these travel-sized shoe dryers based on a recommendation in our Disney FB group!

While on Your Vacation: Plan Day by Day

The planning doesn’t stop once you’re in Florida! Each morning it’s a good idea to check the weather apps and assess your plan for the day, making changes as needed.

Check the Weather Every Morning and Throughout the Day

Use real-time weather radar apps to track storms. Some recommended ones include:

• AccuWeather
• MyRadar
• The Weather Channel

Use the apps to help you decide how long the rain may last and whether you should stay inside for a while, or take time to grab food, etc. Or just take cover for a few minutes, let the rain pass by, and get back to your adventures.

Rainy Day Planning: Step-by-Step

If rain is forecast for your day, here is a quick look at how I would plan my agenda to try to make the most of the weather before it starts raining.

1. Start early: Mornings are usually driest.
2. Do outdoor rides and character meetings first: Get them out of the way before clouds roll in.
3. Switch to indoor attractions mid-day.
4. Ride shows + exhibits in the afternoon.
5. Use dining reservations to wait out the worst weather. Late lunches around 2pm or 3pm are perfectly timed.
6. Plan naps around weather. If you have little ones that still nap, head back to the resort or set yourself in a quiet indoor corner for those 3pm storms.
7. Finish with night entertainment if the rain subsides.

Know that this is just an idea for planning a day. Of course, with rain, there is never a guarantee for how long it will last. But this is a quick preview of how I would change up my day to maximize the fun despite the rain clouds.

Also, it’s important to note that pools will close in heavy rain and if there are any lightning warnings.

Bonus Checklist: Ultimate Rainy Day Park Bag

• Ponchos (for every member)
• Compact umbrella
• Waterproof backpack cover and stroller cover if applicable
• Comfortable quick-dry clothing
• Extra socks/shoes (aim for quick-drying shoes)
• Plastic zip bags or waterproof bags for electronics
• Quick-dry towels
• Charger for phone + portable battery

With all of this in your arsenal, you’re set for any weather scenario — and one step closer to enjoying Disney in the rain like a true pro.

Once You’re at the Park: How to Navigate Rainy Weather

Ok, so you’ve packed the rainy day essentials, you’ve planned your day around the weather at the resort – and now you’re at the parks watching the clouds roll in. Here’s what to expect, what indoor attractions are best to “ride out the storm” and a couple bonus tips.

What To Expect on Those Rainy Days in Disney World Parks

• Expect ride closures or delays.
  Indoor rides are usually fine, but outdoor rides will not operate during if there is a lightning warning or in heavy rain. For example, at Magic Kingdom you can expect attractions like Astro Orbiter, Big Thunder Mountain, Magic Carpets, Jungle Cruise and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to close.
• Transportation might be limited.
  For instance, the Ferry boat to the Magic Kingdom parking lot will not run sometimes if lightning strikes nearby. Also, that goes for the monorail too! Safety comes first! Plus, I don’t know about you, I would rather not be on those at all during a lightning storm of any kind!
• Character meet-and-greets might get delayed or cancelled.
  Indoor greetings will be fine – though the line’s wait time will spike during rain – but outdoor meet and greets will be delayed or cancelled until the weather clears up. (So, you might be best to hit up the outdoor meet-and-greets earlier in the day rather than planning for an afternoon spot as they might get cancelled.)
• Indoor ride wait times may surge.
  If you don’t mind a longer wait time, have some activities planned or packed to keep entertaining while waiting in line. If a longer wait time is going to upset you, consider getting a lightning lane or hitting your must-do indoor rides first thing to avoid the crowds seeking shelter.
• A good attitude is always the best thing to bring to the parks!
  Come on people if it’s raining, chill out! You will get wet! I repeat you WILL get wet in some shape or fashion! On our trip to Disney World in May 2014, my two-year-olds were playing in puddles having a grand time while we were waiting for our fast pass time to approach. We were standing under a very thin piece of shelter with a couple of other people, but my boys could not get enough of the puddles. If they were happy, we were happy. They were having a great time, wet and all! Obviously, one of my boys got a little too close to the man under the shelter and got him wet on his leg and the man made a huge fuss over it! With or without my children’s help he still got wet! It was bound to happen!

Locker HACK! Did you know that all of the Walt Disney World parks have lockers for rent?

They’re located near the entrances (and some secondary spots), with small lockers at $10/day, large at $12/day, and jumbo ($15/day) only at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Lockers are self-service kiosks accepting cash, credit cards, MagicBand or gift cards.

Renting a locker is a great way to stash dry clothing for later if you don’t want to carry around a backpack all day – and it’s a great place to drop off heavy, wet clothing that you can pick up at the end of your park day. $10-15 to avoid having to leave the parks for a few hours to go back to the resort and change is a great hack for me!

Best Attractions to Ride on a Rainy Day

Here’s our top picks for where you should go when raindrops start falling – but check out the full list of all indoor rides and attractions (organized by park) in the image above or download the free printable list here.

Magic Kingdom

• Pirates of the Caribbean
• Haunted Mansion
• Peter Pan’s Flight

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

This park is mostly outdoors, so while you’ll be able to find a few things to do if the forecast is calling for a couple showers, if it’s looking like a very rainy day you might want to swap parks for the day to Epcot or Hollywood Studios which have more indoor rides and come back on a sunnier day.

• Flight of Passage.
• Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
• Na’vi River Journey.

EPCOT

• Guardians of the Galaxy.
• The Seas with Nemo & Friends – explore the massive aquarium afterward until the rain stops.
• Soarin’ Around the World.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

• Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
• Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
• Tower of Terror & Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster – side by side rides with mostly indoor queues.

Indoor Shows & Theaters

Disney parks feature incredible entertainment that doubles as rain shelters. If you are seeing that the rain will not be dissipating right away, consider seeing an indoor show to pass the time.

• Carousel of Progress (Magic Kingdom)
• The Hall of Presidents (Magic Kingdom)
• Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage (Hollywood Studios) – not indoors but covered.
• Festival of the Lion King (Animal Kingdom) – line is partially outdoors but the show is fully indoors. Great if the rain lines up with a showtime!

Ride or show queues may fill up during rain, but you’ll be dry and entertained.

Did you know that there are indoor play areas at Magic Kingdom and Epcot?

All four Walt Disney World parks have indoor play areas or indoor-adjacent play spaces for kids (typically ages 2–12), perfect for rainy days or breaks.

At Magic Kingdom, you can find the Dumbo the Flying Elephant Play Area inside of the big top tent beside the Dumbo ride. It’s an air-conditioned big-top tent queue with slides, climbing nets and separate toddler section; parents can relax with seating. Enter via standby line.

At Epcot, you have three indoor play options:

• Project Tomorrow / Advanced Training Lab: Interactive space-themed exhibits next to Mission: SPACE (exit access); games, simulations, video postcards.
• The “What If” Labs (ImageWorks): Sensory play stations in Imagination! Pavilion; Figment-themed exploration.
• SeaBase / Bruce’s Shark World: Small kid zone post-Nemo ride with shark photo ops, quizzes; aquarium views.

At Hollywood Studios, kids can jump around and dance during Disney Junior Play and Dance! shows (not a dedicated play area per se) and at Animal Kingdom, Rafiki’s Planet Watch Affection Section offers indoor animal petting and meeting areas.

Tusker House Restaurant: A Disney World Dining Review

In a previous post, I have written about some not as well-known experiences that my family has had in Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Today, I would like to share some of my favorite things about the character dining at Tusker House inside the Africa section of Animal Kingdom.

Location

The first thing you will notice when you enter the dining area is that it is off the main path and has more room for you to stretch out as you get signed in for your reservation. We have always done breakfast, and I love this time of day in the park as it is so serene and shady with the trees everywhere.

What to Expect

When you get seated, you will notice that the tables are spaced out well and it has a large dining room. It is buffet style, which I like, because you are not waiting on food or anyone to take your order. Especially for breakfast when the kids are “hangry”, I mean hungry, the buffet is a great option. My daughter loved the serve-yourself size buffet lines that are just her size. They offer some very interesting and new African style breakfast options, as well as your classic American flavors, including Mickey pancakes. There are over 45 items in the buffet! I love this because I get to try something new that I would not have the option to try at any local restaurants in my hometown, and you don’t have to worry if you don’t like it, because it is buffet.

As I mentioned above, this restaurant keeps in the African theme, complete with ethnic cuisines. Of course, you will see all of your favorites such as scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals and more. You will also see a great variety of items such as spit-roasted ham, beef bobotie, basmati rice, and spiced corn beef hash. The coconut sweet potatoes will have you traveling back to the buffet line very quickly! Coffee is brought out to the table in a large coffee pot, so you will be sure to be ready to take on your day in Animal Kingdom. For the kids, there is always plenty of “monkey juice”. This juice is an exotic blend of mango and passion-fruit.

Don’t forget to grab a piece or two of the large variety of breads that are also available. My personal favorite: banana-cinnamon bread pudding with warm vanilla sauce.

The Characters

The other thing that makes this breakfast so special is the characters. Although they don’t guarantee characters, we had Safari Mickey, Goofy, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck to stop by our table to visit awhile. The best part is they are dressed in their safari gear! So adorable! I love that this meal gives you flexibility to eat at your own pace or speed it up, depending on what all you want to accomplish in your day. We love to sit and enjoy the meal while the kids interact with the characters. Be sure to bring your autograph book and pen! You don’t get to see Safari Goofy everyday!

Walt Express TIP!

We did not plan it this way, however it worked out nicely that as soon as we were ready to leave, the next Lion King show was getting ready to start. There was no line and the Lion King Show entrance is RIGHT NEXT TO TUSKER HOUSE! Next time we go, I will make sure I schedule the same breakfast time so we can get to the first show that is not very crowded.

Another great attraction in the same area is the Kilimanjaro Safari!

One of the questions I’m asked most often is: What age is best for taking kids to a Disney Park? Although I don’t know the perfect age, I do know my husband and I have taken our three kids on lots of trips since they were babies. Our twin boys went for the first time as infants and are now 6 years old and have been a total of A LOT! Some may call us crazy, and we may be. But, I do know we enjoy it and our kids always enjoy it even more. So with that being said, we have gathered up the “must dos” for preschoolers in every park at Disney World! This will help you make a master plan or itinerary for your upcoming Disney Vacation with your favorite preschooler! Your junior princess or pirate will absolutely adore these ride and attractions. So in no particular order, here are our favorites (and must-do’s on EVERY trip-foru our family)…

Walt Disney World Must Dos: For The Little Ones

Magic Kingdom

• Enchanted Tales with Belle: Let Belle capture their attention with mesmerizing tales of her life with the Beast!
• Peter Pan’s Flight: Come on, what kid (or adult, ME, ME) wouldn’t love this! They can fly!
• Princess Fairytale Hall: Your little ones can visit and meet their favorite princesses! What a fairytale!
• Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theatre: Meet your favorite Mouse and take a pic to mark the occasion.
• Country Bear Jamboree: Your child will love the knee slappin’ good ol’ time with this sing along bear musical.
• Dumbo the Flying Elephant: Who wouldn’t want to ride this cutie? While you wait your kids can play in a play area, so you don’t even feel like you are waiting in line!
• It’s a Small World: Enjoy a relaxing boat ride through different countries. You won’t be able to get that song out of your head! You’re welcome!

• Walt Disney World Railroad: This isn’t really a ride but it has four stops in the Magic Kingdom Park. Make sure you take a ride on it at least once. Little boys and trains are always a hit!
• Prince Charming Regal Carousel: Ride like a Prince or Princess aboard a carousel horse inspired by Disney’s Cinderella.
• Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid: Do you have a Little Mermaid fan? This attraction is for you! Located in the new Fantasyland.

Epcot

• The Seas with Nemo and Friends: Take a trip with Nemo and his friends on this fun, low key ride.
• Turtle Talk with Crush: Dude, sit around Crush’s tank and have a chat. He’s totally cool, Dude!
• Journey into Imagination with Figment: Figment takes you on a ride through your mind of imagination.
• Epcot Character Spot: The name says it all. See all of your favorite characters in one spot!
• Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros: Take a low key boat ride through Mexico with the The Three Caballeros.

• Frozen Ever After: In Norway, take a relaxing boat ride featuring everyone’s favorite snowman!

Hollywood Studios

• Disney Junior Live on Stage: Do you have a Disney Junior fan? If so, this is the show for you. Go with all of your favorite Disney Junior puppets characters into a magical interactive story and show.
• Toy Story Mania: This interactive 3D ride brings all of the Toy Story characters to life.

• Voyage of the Little Mermaid: This show takes you under the sea with Ariel and all of her friends.
• Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage: Capture the magic of the movie live on stage.
• Muppet Vision 3D: If you have a Muppet fan on your hands this is the perfect show for you!
• Alien Swirling Saucers: This new attraction is found in Toy Story Land-Hollywood Studios’ newest addition!

Animal Kingdom

• Kilimanjaro Safari: Take a ride on a rugged safari vehicle and take in all of the breathtaking sights and sounds of the African savanna.
• Finding Nemo the Musical: Capture the movie in this must see musical!

• Triceratops Spin: Take a spin on one of these dinos!
• Affection Section: Pet, feed and love on the cutest animals around on Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
• Maharajah Jungle Trek: Take a self-guided tour through this zoo-like adventure. Look at all of the exotic animals!
• Na’vi River Journey: Think… It’s a Small World in the World of Avatar. This easy boat ride anyone will love with all of the bright and vibrant colors.
• The Boneyard: Young paleontologists ages 10 and under can participate in prehistoric discoveries and learn more about the extraordinary world of dinosaurs.

I hope this list will help you and your preschooler have a magical time at Walt Disney World! I know it has mine! This cute little wrist accessory is not just for showing off your “Disney side”…it has a ton of other uses and will be your best friend once you get into Disney World!

Magic Bands are fairly simple and they were made to make your life easier while you are on your magical vacation. All of the “must haves” in ONE place! Keys to the room, park tickets, dining information, credit cards…the list goes on. The Magic Band makes traveling back and forth to the parks easier and a whole lot lighter! Let’s face it, sometimes we DO get pretty weighed down with things we need in the parks.

They have been known to have a glitch or two in the past, but Disney is on top of the matter and is always working out the kinks to improve any issue. My family and I have been plenty of times since the start of Magic Bands and I will be honest in the fact that there has been a time or two that we have not been fans of the Magic Bands. Yet every time we go they get better and better and now we are very pleased with these handy, dandy accessories. So don’t be afraid of the new technology, embrace it! (I have to remind myself of that everyday!).

What will Magic Bands do?

• First and foremost, Magic bands are small, waterproof, all-in-one wristbands that allow you to access your vacation plans and reservations that are stored in My Disney Experience.
• Magic Bands will unlock your Disney Resort room.
• Magic Bands replace your key to the world card.
• Magic Bands are your “ticket” into Disney Theme Parks and Water Parks with valid park admission. Special admission ticketed events can also be linked up to the Magic Bands!
• Magic Bands allow you to check in at Fast Pass entrances.
• Magic Bands allow you to connect your Disney Photo Pass images to your My Disney Experience account. This is done automatically now! Instantly see your photos and even videos! If you have pre-purchased Memory Maker, you can even start downloading and sharing your images right from your phone.
• You can charge merchandise and food on your MagicBand during your Disney Resort Stay. (Don’t take it home and expect it to work the same way for you.) Make sure you add your credit card information into the check-in portion of My Disney Experience, so you are able to have the payment option from your MagicBand. Even after doing this, STILL check with the resort during check-in. We always say it’s better to be safe than sorry.
• If you are on any of the Disney Dining Plans, all of your information will be on your Magic Band.

• If you are staying on property in a Disney World Resort, you will also receive “magical extras“. These include luggage tags and MORE!

Magic Bands are all about convenience. These wrist bands mean you have one less thing to keep up with. It’s always on your wrist! Plus, all Magic Bands have a sensor touch point that you will scan each time you do any of the above things. Just place the Mickey to Mickey at any touch point area and watch the magic take place.

How do I get a Magic Band?

You will receive Magic Band if you are staying on Disney Resort Property or if you are a Walt Disney World Passholder for no additional fee. If you are not staying on Disney Resort Property or Passholder, you have the option of buying a Magic Band in the parks or in Disney Springs.

Magic Band Tips

• A four-digit pin number will be needed in order to make purchases with your Magic Band. Add this in your My Disney Experience account before leaving home.
• The same pin number will also be needed if you are using the Disney Dining Plan.
• Magic Bands are available in the following colors: RED, GREEN, ORANGE, BLUE, YELLOW, PINK, PURPLE and GRAY.
• Also available for an additional charge are all kinds of cute decorations for your bands. These are available all over Disney World and online!
• They WILL fit. From the smallest or arms to the larger ones, the adjustable band makes it super easy!
• Magic Bands are available in select limited edition and special event designs!

Make sure to pack your Magic Bands FIRST! If you are flying, you will want to have them in your carry-on luggage. When driving, make sure you keep them close by also! You will need them to enter your resort area.

If you are using a Disney Vacation Planner, they will link all of your reservations to your My Disney Experience. You can do the same as you plan your magical vacation! I hope this helps with all of your vacation planning and as always, if you have more questions feel free to let us know.

Benefits of MDE (My Disney Experience)

There are many benefits of My Disney Experience and I am here to show you the easiest and most beneficial way of using it. First, let’s talk about what this awesome website can do. I will let you in on a little secret…there is a My Disney Experience APP for your phone that will be your best friend (or personal tour guide) while visiting Walt Disney World! For now though, we are discussing the actual My Disney Experience website.

• You can make Dining reservations.
• You can book your Fastpass + options.
• You can find out when special events will be in the parks.
• You can completely personalize your whole Disney experience all via the website and APP.
• You can link your family and friends to your My Disney Experience, letting them help with the planning process!
• THIS is the first step in creating your magical vacation! This website and the My Disney Experience APP go hand in hand!

For me the best part of this website and APP is that I can visit it at anytime to get my warm and fuzzy “Disney feels”. 🙂 I visit it quite often!

Step by Step Guide

Let me walk you through step by step of how to get started with My Disney Experience. (Of course, after you have created your account.) If you have not created an account already, you can do so right here: Setup My Disney Experience. It is FREE!

• If your reservations are not linked make sure you link them properly. Take the following steps below to link your resort reservations. When your resort reservations are linked scroll to the bottom of the same exact page and link your dining reservations, Fastpass + and Memory Maker if you already have them. Don’t fret! If you are staying off Walt Disney World resort property, you can still use and need My Disney Experience.
• Go to My Itinerary so you can check the park opening hours for the days you are visiting, if you are staying on Walt Disney World property you can also see which parks are offering extra magic hours. You can go through and create a plan by seeing which parks are open longer on which days. This is a great starting point. From there you can make your Dining Reservations and Fastpass + options.
• Scroll down on the left side and find out how to look for park hours.

You can do a lot of things through My Disney Experience but, these few steps can get you started on your magical Disney journey.

Tips and Extras

• When you make your travel reservations with a Disney Travel Planner they can help you with My Disney Experience, but you have full control! Your travel planner will handle as much or as little of the planning as you wish. (You can read more about that, HERE!)
• Your login for the My Disney Experience website will also be the same login you will use for setting up your My Disney Experience APP!

All You Need To Know: Expectant Mothers At Disney World Parks

Are you an expectant mother and have a trip planned to a Disney park? Well, this article is for you! You can go to Walt Disney World while pregnant and still have a great time. Just bring your comfortable shoes and comfortable clothing and you are all set. Please make sure you contact your doctor and make sure you are able to travel at this point of time in your pregnancy. It is a lot of walking!

I went to Walt Disney World when I was an expecting mom of twins so, it can be done. You must do your homework. I have compiled a list of rides that are safe and not safe to ride while pregnant in the Disney parks. I have included all attractions, so some are not necessarily rides. I have also added little notes to the side for some of you to take into consideration. I am in no way, no form or fashion, a doctor. I got these attractions right off of the Disney website, HERE. Tips

• Please remember, these are taken off of the Disney site but, you know your body best. Do not get on an attraction or ride that you do not feel comfortable riding or doing. There were some that said were okay for me to ride while pregnant by Disney standards but, I still didn’t feel comfortable riding. You know what’s best for you and your baby!
• Remember the obvious, take a rest when needed and drink plenty of water. Here are some great places to take a break in the parks: BEST PLACES FOR A BREAK
• If the walking is too much for you don’t be afraid to rent a wheelchair at the entrance of each park at Disney World or you can rent from a private company.
• Wear the proper shoes! I love Disneybounding and wearing cute shoes, but while pregnant make sure you take care of your feet especially! Here are a few that are stylish and comfy!

Many people have a misconception that these rides and attractions are for “bigger” kids and adults. That is simply just not true. There are only a few that have a height requirement. These height requirements are in place for the protection of your children. Please follow the rules. We have included only those rides and/or attractions that have a height requirement.

Harmony Barber Shop at Magic Kingdom: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

Harmony Barbershop is a throwback to the turn-of-the-century barber shops. This shop is most famously known for a child’s first haircut, making it a magical experience. Adults can book their own trim or styles as well if they want to freshen up.

This barbershop features nostalgic striped barber poles, vintage chairs, and an old-school theme throughout. The Dapper Dans like to make special appearances from time to time to serenade guests. Their harmonious sounds are awe-inspiring.

Walk-ins are accepted, but I recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure you get a slot. If you expect to walk in, know you may have to wait a long time before a seat becomes available.

Harmony Barber Shop Overview:

Where You Can Find It: Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street, U.S.A., which is located near Town Square. This is just steps away from the Emporium at the front of the park.

What Is It: Harmony Barbershop is a fully functioning, old-fashioned barbershop offering haircuts for kids and adults. You will also get Disney-themed touches, Pixie Dust, the potential to be serenaded by Dapper Dans, and classic Main Street charm.

Type: Personal care service.

Time Required: If you have a reservation, expect to be 20-30 minutes, depending on the service you purchased.

Price Range: prices below (subject to variation)

• Adult Haircut – starts around $21 (includes a basic cut and simple styling)
• Child’s Haircut (age 12 & under) – starts around $20
• My First Haircut Package – starts around $28 (includes the haircut, a keepsake lock of hair, a My First Haircut Mickey ears hat, and a certificate)
• Beard Trim – starts around $8

Reservations Needed: I do recommend making reservations. Walk-ins are welcome, but you may have to wait a while before a seat becomes available.

Weather Dependent: No

When Is It Offered: Daily hours are offered during Magic Kingdom park hours.

Who Will Love It: Kids and adults can both enjoy the barbershop.

My First Haircut Package at Harmony Barber Shop

Harmony Barbershop offers its My First Haircut Package. This is designed for children, especially those getting their first haircut. It makes such a memorable experience for the child and parents.

The package includes a haircut, “My First Haircut,” Mickey ears, a keepsake certificate, and a small lock of their hair, placed in a pouch you get to keep. To make the experience even more unique, they sprinkle Pixie Dust to make it more magical for the child.

I share my experience with the first haircut below in more depth; it is an experience worth doing if you have time in your schedule to make a reservation.

What to Expect at Harmony Barber Shop

When you step inside the Harmony Barbershop, it is going to feel like you’ve gone back in time a bit. You get that vintage vibe with the barbershop theme. The staff is very cheerful and fun, and will make the experience worthwhile.

The Dapper Dans are an a cappella group that sings around Main Street and pops in from time to time to share their talents. It has even been said that Mary Poppins might show up to see your child get their first haircut.

Our Experience at Harmony Barber Shop

I want to share a tradition we love with our children. We go to the Harmony Barber Shop almost every time we visit Walt Disney World. The Harmony Barber Shop is located in the Magic Kingdom on Main Street U.S.A.

The Harmony Barber Shop not only cuts hair but also styles my daughter’s hair with “pixie dust” every time. She absolutely adores this part of the trip and asks to go every time. The best part is that mom and dad’s wallet does not break, which is a pro point for sure.

Harmony Barber Shop Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Located right on Main Street, U.S.A., making it an easy stop at the beginning or end of your Magic Kingdom day.
• Affordable compared to many other Disney experiences.
• Offers a unique Disney experience that goes beyond rides and attractions. It will be a memorable experience.
• Accepts both reservations and walk-ins, offering flexibility for guests.
• Perfect for first haircuts and milestone moments, with thoughtful keepsakes included, that make it feel extra special for the child and parents.
• Friendly, patient Cast Members who are great with children and are qualified to work with hair.
• Often accompanied by the nearby Dapper Dans, adding live entertainment and extra charm. Mary Poppins will stop by from time to time to help put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Cons:

• Limited availability, especially for first haircut packages, so reservations are strongly recommended.
• Services are pretty basic, so this isn’t the place for advanced styling or salon treatments. It is more about an experience, so consider that.
• Not ideal for guests on a tight touring schedule, as wait times can be long if you do not make reservations ahead of time.
• Foot traffic from Main Street can make the space feel busy.

Disney World Must-Dos for Preschoolers

I don’t know the perfect age for your child to go to Disney World, but I do know my husband and I have taken our three kids for a long time and we started them out as babies. All of our kids went for the first time at the age of one. (It just seemed to work out like that.) Our kids are now 7, 4 and 4 and have gone several times throughout the years. Some may call us crazy and we may be. But, I do know we enjoy it and our kids always enjoy it even more. So with that being said, I have gathered the must-dos for preschoolers in every park at Disney World! This will help you make a master plan or itinerary for your upcoming Disney vacation with your favorite preschooler! Your junior princess or pirate will absolutely adore all of these rides and attractions. Here they are in no particular order.

Magic Kingdom

• Enchanted Tales with Belle: Let Belle capture their attention with mesmerizing tales of her life with the Beast!
• Peter Pan’s Flight: Come on, what kid (or adult, ME, ME) wouldn’t love this! They can fly!
• Princess Fairytale Hall: Your little ones can visit and meet their favorite princesses! What a fairytale!
• Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theatre: Meet your favorite Mouse and take a pic to mark the occasion.
• Country Bear Jamboree: Your child will love the knee slappin’ good ol’ time with this sing along bear musical.
• Dumbo the Flying Elephant: Who wouldn’t want to ride this cutie? While you wait, your kids can play in a play area. You don’t even feel like you are waiting in line.
• It’s a Small World: Enjoy a relaxing boat ride through different countries. You won’t be able to get that song out of your head! 😉
• Walt Disney World Railroad: This isn’t really a ride, but it has four stops in the Magic Kingdom Park. Make sure you take a ride on it at least once. Little Boys and trains are always a hit!
• Prince Charming Regal Carousel: Ride like a Prince or Princess aboard a carousel horse inspired by Disney’s Cinderella.
• Under the Sea- Journey of the Little Mermaid: Do you have a Little Mermaid fan? This attraction is for you! It’s located in the new Fantasyland.
• Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin: Hop aboard this intergalactic space portal and blast away all the aliens and defeat Zurg. Preschoolers love to control the direction of the space vehicle, but watch out for that if you get motion sickness easily.

Epcot

• The Seas with Nemo and Friends: Take a trip with Nemo and his friends on this fun, low key ride.
• Turtle Talk with Crush: Dude, sit around Crush’s tank and have a chat. He’s totally cool dude!
• Journey into Imagination with Figment: Figment takes you on a ride through your mind of imagination.
• ImageWorks: After you take a ride with Journey into Imagination with Figment go and play in the “what if” labs. Your preschoolers can experiment, create and explore.
• Epcot Character Spot: The name says it all, see all of your favorite characters in one spot!
• Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros: Take a low key boat ride through Mexico with the three duck friend Caballeros.

Hollywood Studios

• Disney Junior Live on Stage: Do you have a Disney Junior fan? If so this is the show for you. Go with all of your favorite Disney Junior puppets characters into a magical interactive story and show.
• Toy Story Mania: This interactive 3D ride brings all of the Toy Story characters to life and it adds a little friendly competition to the mix.
• Voyage of the Little Mermaid: This show takes you under the sea with Ariel and all of her friends.
• Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage: Capture the magic of the movie live on stage.
• Muppet Vision 3D: If you have a Muppet fan on your hands, this is the perfect show for you!

Animal Kingdom

• Kilimanjaro Safaris: Take a ride on a rugged safari vehicle and take in all of the breath-taking sights and sounds of the African Safari.
• Finding Nemo the Musical: Capture the movie in this must see musical!
• Triceratops Spin: Take a spin on one of these dinos!
• Affection Section: Pet, feed and love on the cutest animals around on Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
• Maharajah Jungle Trek: Take a self guided tour through this zoo like adventure. Look at all of the exotic animals!
• The Festival of the Lion King: This one is hands down one of the best shows on property. Preschoolers will love interacting with the show and the Tumble Monkeys portion is always a hit.
