Coronavirus And My Travel Plans

It’s all over social media, all over the news stations and pretty much all everyone is talking about. The coronavirus and my travel plans. We are NOT trying to persuade you either way on what to do about going on your vacation or cancelling your vacation. We just want you to be informed with facts from trusted sources, such as the WHO (World Health Organization) and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). Whether you have planned a Disney World vacation, a Disney Cruise or any other type of vacation or cruise, you need to know the facts.

One important FACT is: You are more likely to be affected by the Flu than the Coronavirus.#waltexpress #disneyworld #disneyworldtravel coronavirus and travel

What Is The Coronavirus

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS-CoVSARS-CoV, and now with this new virus (named SARS-CoV-2). The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a betacoronavirus, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV.  All three of these viruses have their origins in bats. The sequences from U.S. patients are similar to the one that China initially posted, suggesting a likely single, recent emergence of this virus from an animal reservoir.

How Does It Spread

Person-to-person spread: The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

How To Prevent The Virus

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to  others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

Who Is At Risk?

Elderly and people with other medical conditions are more at risk for serious complications if they come in contact with this virus. This is the same threat that is issued with the flu each year.
