Kona Cafe At Disney’s Polynesian

You will find several options for dining at the Polynesian Resort, and don’t get me wrong they are ALL delicious. We have eaten at O’Hana, Captain Cooks and we have done the Luau. However, breakfast at the Kona Cafe has easily become my favorite. Every time we do our advance dining reservations, I know I am booking breakfast here. It’s not a character breakfast and it’s not a buffet but it is a great experience.

Located At The Polynesian Resort

First of all it’s at the Polynesian Resort, which is a treat in itself. This resort is on the monorail line and it is gorgeous! The main lobby is beautiful, with outdoor waterfalls at the entrance, tiki torches lit all around and you never know what fun activities you will find going on, including a fun hula lesson! So after you take all your mandatory fun lobby pictures, take a trip up the stairs. Opposite from O’Hana’s check in you will find Kona Cafe. There is a Kona Island located right near the entrance where you can grab food quickly. In the morning they serve muffins, bagels, snacks and coffee. You can get the delicious Kona coffee here too!

Mimosa For Breakfast

Inside the restaurant you will find it’s kind of small, but I find it cozy. It can get a little loud but nothing too overwhelming. We went for breakfast so we tried the Liliko’i Mimosa and the Wasabi Bloody Mary. I loved the Liliko’i juice so the mimosa was perfect. My husband has never had a bloody Mary before so he decided to try the Wasabi one. He raved about it the entire trip and tried to get another one like it other places but has had no luck!

Along with our drinks we also just got a regular pot of the brewed coffee. However, there is an option for the pressed pot Hawaiian coffee. I saw a lot of these on other tables and I have heard it is very good, especially if you are a coffee lover!

Famous Tonga Toast

Before we ate here for the first time I had heard a lot about the famous Tonga Toast. I wanted to try it so badly, but it has bananas in it and I am not a fan of bananas at all. I thought maybe I could eat around them or something but eventually I decided on something else. I went with the Macadamia Nut Pancakes. Wow, just wow. I think about these pancakes daily! They are amazing! It is a stack of three large pancakes cooked with macadamia nuts inside with a delicious macadamia nut butter and pineapple on top. It is the best breakfast ever. I would eat these everyday! I also got a side of bacon but the pancakes absolutely stole the show!

My kids got mickey pancakes and devoured them like they always do. My husband ordered the Polynesian Egg Platter and he was very happy with his meal. It came with a cute mickey mouse shaped muffin that so was delicious, we all had to give it a try!

We LOVE Kona Cafe At Disney’s Polynesian

Kona Cafe is also opened for lunch and dinner, they serve breakfast from 7:30 am until 11:00 am. Lunch from 12:10 to 3:55 pm and dinner 5:00 pm to 9:45 pm. Advanced dining reservations are recommended. It is also one table service on the Disney Dining Plans.

Spirit Of Aloha Dinner Show

Luau Cove

The Spirit of Aloha is located at the Luau Cove amphitheater, and you are able to start soaking in island vibes before you ever get there. You’ll enter a tropical paradise as you walk through lobby of the Polynesian Resort and and make your way outside where you will walk near the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon and have an amazing view of the Magic Kingdom. You simply need to keep following the signs until you reach the torch lit pathway that will lead you to Luau Cove!

Dinner At Spirit Of Aloha

When you arrive, you are greeted like family and every member of your party will receive their very own lei. Your group will then be led to your seats by a Cast Member. Once you are seated, your server will come by and take your food and drink orders.

Dinner at the show is served family style, which means that servers will bring you large platters of delicious pulled pork, ribs, roasted (or grilled) chicken, salad, rice, veggies and pineapple that everyone can share. Our kids especially loved the pulled pork and chicken legs. The best news, is that it is all-you-care-to-eat, so when the chicken legs ran out, our server brought us more!

Also included in your meal: soft drinks, lemonade, coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages. Guests 21 years of age and up can enjoy beer and wine with their meals, included in the price.

Spirit of Aloha

The Spirit of Aloha show is hosted by Auntie Wini, who is putting together a going away party for one of the local girls who is going to the mainland for college. The show features a live band that plays the Polynesian inspired and traditional music that the cast members perform to. The show features not only musical numbers, but cast members performing Polynesian dances from all over the world while wearing traditional dress. The show wraps up with my personal favorite ─ some really impressive fire dancing!

During the show, there are lots of opportunities for the audience to participate, making every minute you are in Luau Cove entertaining. At one point during the show, the entire audience is invited to come up and learn a dance with the cast members! This was my family’s very favorite part of the night and they’ve talked about it ever since.

Important Information

You can experience the Spirit of Aloha two times an evening: 5:15 pm and 8:15 pm. The show counts as two table service credits if you are using a Disney Dining Plan. If you book using your dining credits, you can only book category 2 or 3 seats which are normally located farther away from the stage. (There is a chance you can be seated on the floor with category 2 and 3 seats, but there are far fewer available in those categories!)

The main floor is reserved for customers who pay without dining plans, which runs $74 for adults and $46 for kids 3-9.

If you love dinner shows and like experiencing new things, this is definitely the Disney World experience for you! You don’t want to miss out on this one! My entire family LOVED it!

A Few Things To Remember

• This dinner will be two dining credits on the Disney Dining Plan
• Reservations are highly recommended and can be made up to 180 days prior
• A children’s menu is also available with offerings such as mini corn dogs with tater tots, cheese pizza, and either grilled chicken or fish of the day with rice and green beans
• Prepayment is required unless you are on the Disney Dining Plan
• Some Category 2 and 3 seats require a short walk up stairs
• Reservations are available at 180 days prior to your vacation. Simply reserve online using your My Disney Experience or by calling (407) WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463
