Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort: A Disney World Resort Review

Are you ready for a “different” and more relaxing resort for your next Disney World vacation? This resort is truly something to behold. Rich decor, delicious eateries, lush accommodations and on the monorail! What more could you ask for? Maybe a view of Magic Kingdom’s nightly fireworks show? You got it!!

The Poly

When you think of the ultimate in luxury, you think of a rich tropical setting. Luckily, Disney had the same thought when building this Deluxe Resort. This Poly (as locals like to call it) has been around since the beginning of Walt Disney World in 1971. It has quite the rich history as well! Many do not know that this resort is where John Lennon officially was the last to sign the papers to end The Beatles while on vacation with his family in 1974. I wonder if it was a “Hard Days Night” after Lennon made the decision to sign the dotted line?

The Polynesian is also one of the “Monorail Resorts”, meaning when you are a guest here, you are able to take the monorail to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or one of the other monorail resorts (Contemporary and Grand Floridian). Please note, there are several different monorails and you may have to switch monorails depending on your destination! You also can take the boat to the Magic Kingdom or as with all resorts you also have the option of taking the buses to the parks as well. All modes of available transportation are available while vacationing here.

Accommodations and Room Types

The Polynesian is one of the largest resorts in the Magic Kingdom area and has 847 guest rooms on property. It is also home to one of the newest DVC expansions with the most coveted Bungalows on Seven Seas Lagoon. But since we’re looking more into the regular rooms, we’ll leave the bungalows for another day.

There are four different room types, similar to the other Disney Resorts. Standard View, Lagoon View, Pool or Marina View and Theme Park View. The price of the rooms depends on your views, with the least expensive option being the Standard, and the most expensive being Theme Park views. Whether or not the view is worth the price is up to each individual. But to be able to see Magic Kingdom’s Fireworks show with the songs being played on your television in your own room could be paradise in itself!

The rooms are all similarly situated at 415-476 square feet, with either two queen size beds or a few king size beds scattered throughout. The rooms also have an armoire, table and chairs, small fridge, coffee maker, safe, hair dryer, and iPod dock. The rooms can accommodate a family of 5 with a child under the age of 3.

If you would love the amenities of a Deluxe Resort, but don’t care what the view is out your window, then the standard view will be perfect. Usually this means you might get a nice look at the parking lot and a bit further away from the pools and activities. The Lagoon View is a view of the lake of course! And the best of the best and most sought after is the Theme Park View! Here you get a picturesque view of Cinderella’s Castle and in the evening can hopefully get a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom Fireworks show. However, if you have little ones traveling with you, remember the noise of the fireworks will be more present in the rooms facing Magic Kingdom if you’re trying to get them to go to bed! Just close those curtains!

Club Level Option

Now, for the best of the best, there is CLUB LEVEL. It is pricier, but well worth the extra cost! At Club Level, here is what you will receive:

• Evening turn-down
• Secured key access to the club-level lounge, serving refreshments 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily
• Complimentary fax assistance
• Access to Concierge service at the King Kamehameha Club
• Complimentary health club access
• Complimentary newspapers in Club Level lounge
• Personalized Front Desk and Guest Services

All of these rooms are situated in different buildings, called longhouses. Depending on your need, there are advantages to each one. There are many to choose from with 11 longhouses on property (Tonga, Aotearoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, Hawaii, Samoa, Niue, Rarotonga, Tokelau, Tahiti, and Rapa Nui.) You might need to brush up on your Geography because each name of the longhouses represent authentic Polynesian Islands!

Dining Options

Now, let’s talk about why many people who are not staying at the Polynesian come here…the food! Lucky you if you’re a guest here, you will have access to some of the best meals on Disney World property!

There are 3 different Quick Service restaurants for you to choose from. For those delicious Dole Whips, you can get them here at Pineapple Lanai! If you need a quick meal, Captain Cook’s is a great place to grab something on the go. We recommend the Pulled Pork Nachos! Finally, if you get hungry lounging by the pool or need a refreshing cocktail, you can head over to Barefoot Pool Bar!

If you’re looking to have a meal that your whole family can sit together, there are 8 delicious options! To start your day off right you can dine at Kona Cafe (we love the Tonga Toast, French Press Kona Coffee, and Liliko’i Juice!) If you love buffets, there’s a few to choose from here too! The much loved ‘Ohana is a fan favorite with the amazing service and bread pudding for dessert! They also have a wonderful character breakfast with your favorite friends from Lilo and Stitch!

The other buffet is the Luau Cove which you can enjoy close to the pool and amenities. If you’re wanting a more causal dining experience, but not quite as casual as quick service, they also have a few options here as well. Kona Island is a great place to get your sushi fix! The Tambu Lounge is wonderful as well as the Disney Fan Favorite’s; Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace. While you dine on unique South Seas culinary delights, pair it with an equally unique drink like the “Dark & Tropical Stormy”. Here’s a little tip, some of the drink orders trigger fun little extra magic experiences!

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

Finally, if you’re looking for a dinner and a show and can’t quite make it to Hawaii, look no further than the Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. This luau is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate with Hula Dancing, Fire Dancing, and drummers. This all you care to eat buffet will have everything for every appetite from Island Pulled Pork to fresh salads with mango-poppy seed dressing. And for the little ones they have mini corn dogs and of course pizza! This dinner show is two dining credits on the Disney Dining Plan.

Recreation

Now that’s you’ve eaten your fill, after waiting the 15 minutes your mom told you to, go check out the pools! The newly refurbished Lava pool boasts an impressive 142 foot long water slide along with a towering volcano! It also has zero depth entry similar to a beach, so for those little ones, or those who just want a quick dip, you can take your time getting into the water.

If you’re looking for a little more action, you can also have a game of volleyball, or stretch your legs on the beautiful running trail. There’s also lots of play areas for the little ones like Lilo’s Playhouse or the fun for all ages campfire with some favorite furry friends! Or if your more of the water craft type, you can rent motorized boats or go fishing! You can do as much or as little as you’d like while you’re in paradise!

Shopping

With three shops nearby, you can shop till you drop! BouTiki, Disney’s Magnolia, Palm and Oak Trail Pro Shop and of course, Moana Mercantile make for some pretty amazing experiences!

Walt Express Tips

Now, here is my little tip for you that is a horribly kept secret! If you don’t want to brave the crowd in Magic Kingdom for the nightly fireworks show, you have the most perfect viewing spot right on the beach of the resort! Get there a little before 9 pm and you’ll have the best view of the Electrical Water Pageant as well! Two beautiful night time shows for the price of, well, none! You do not have to have a reservation for the Poly to enjoy these shows, but it is asked of those who are not guests of the resort to be respectful of those who are. This is a great way to see the fireworks show at least once, and they pipe in the music to the beach to give it that extra magic!

During the early stages of planning a Walt Disney World trip, most people will consider a crucial question, “Should we stay on Walt Disney World property?”  Most families consider this question because they know that there are cheaper options in the Orlando area, and let’s face it…we are all looking for ways to save money and still have a magical vacation.  However, sometimes saving money isn’t the only thing we should consider, especially when booking a Walt Disney World vacation.  Walt Disney World is known for providing magical experiences to all guests, but the enchantment is extended when you choose to stay on property at one of the twenty-eight Disney owned resorts and villas.  Let’s explore the Top 10 Reasons YOU Should Stay On Property at Walt Disney World.

#10. The Magical Express

The moment Walt Disney World resort guests step off the plane, they are treated to some Disney magic.  At the Orlando International Airport, a motorcoach awaits to whisk guests to their hotel.  Resort guests don’t need to bother with baggage claim because Disney has thought of that too.  Bags are delivered to the resort rooms within a few hours so that guests can check in and get right to the fun at the parks or savor a delicious meal at one of the numerous locations on property.  Not only having a motorcoach pick you up at the airport convenient, it is also a big money saver.  Based on the taxi fare estimator tool on www.mearstransportation.com, Disney’s Magical Express can save you over $120 on taxi fares to and from the airport.

#9. Complimentary Magic Bands

Every guest that stays on property receives a free magic band that will work as their room key.  The complimentary magic band also works as your tickets into the theme parks, and the bands are linked to your FastPass+ selections.  If you stay on property, you also have the option of linking a credit or debit card to your Magic Band to make purchases and dining charges more convenient.  You can still purchase a Magic Band if you are not staying on property, but they come at a hefty price.  Each band will set your family back $12.95, which for a family of four can add up to well over $50.

#8. Package Delivery

All Walt Disney World guests can have their in-park purchases sent to the front gate for pick-up as they leave.  However, guests staying at Walt Disney World Resorts receive an additional perk; souvenir purchases can be sent directly to a guest’s hotel.  This perk can be a lifesaver when you are dragging tired, grouchy children (and adults) out of the parks at the end of a magical, yet long day of touring.

#7. Early Access to Fast Pass+

That’s right. If you are staying in a Disney World Resort, you will get early access to your fast pass planning. A full 30 days BEFORE guests staying off-site. 60 days before your vacation begins, you are able to make fast passes in advance. This is a HUGE perk!

#6. Disney Dining Plan

Walt Disney World offers several dining plans to meet any family’s needs, but you can only purchase this plan if you are staying at one of the Disney World resorts.  Some families don’t purchase the dining plan because even the smallest plan includes a lot of food, but most families really like it for the convenience of being able to prepay for meals.  There are numerous on-site options for dining and every hotel has a food court or quick service option.  On-site guests who add the dining plan also receive a resort refillable mug that can be refilled at the resort all day with soda, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.  If convenience is key to enjoying your vacation, then the dining plan is a perfect add-on to make resort stays even better.

#5. Proximity to the Parks

If you choose to drive to the parks, being close can be a huge benefit to your budget and sanity.  Most resorts are mere minutes away from the parks, whereas many of the off property locations will require at least a fifteen to twenty-minute commute.  Minimal travel time between your hotel and the theme parks is also helpful when you have young children or elderly family members who may need a mid-day nap to stay fresh and upbeat.  Even better, if you choose to stay in one of the deluxe resorts on property, you could walk to a theme park in the amount of time most off property guests spend just getting into the parking lot.

#4.  Complimentary Transportation

If you are like most adults, driving in a city you are not familiar with is not your idea of fun.  Luckily, Walt Disney World resort guests never have to worry about getting behind the wheel during their stay.  Transportation is offered to and from every resort and theme park on-site. Complimentary transportation can be a big time saver when visiting the Magic Kingdom; if you are staying off site you have to park at the Ticket and Transportation Center and then take the monorail or ferry over to the entrance.  Resort guests simply take a bus or monorail straight to the entrance, which can save upwards of thirty minutes on a busy day.

Walt Disney World resort drivers are all well-trained, and a lot of them are even entertaining.  It is not uncommon to hear stories of bus drivers making guests feel special on a birthday or other occasion.  One friend’s experience always comes to mind when I think about bus drivers making this service extraordinary.  My friend had planned a very special dinner at Cinderella’s Castle and her daughter was dressed in her favorite Cinderella costume and accessories.  As they boarded the bus, the bus driver made a huge deal over the young lady and even got over the bus intercom system and announced that they had a very special guest on board.  He asked that all guests be on their very best behavior as they were all in the presence of a true Disney princess.  Two years later, the child still gushes over how a bus driver thought she was a real princess and the mother tells that particular story to others with tears in her eyes.

#3.  No Hidden Resort Fees 

Many resorts and hotels in the Orlando area have hidden resort that are not disclosed in their advertised prices.  In contrast, Disney World includes all fees in their advertised resort prices, even taxes.  My husband and I once arrived in Orlando a day early, and instead of calling to see if Disney had any rooms available, we booked a four star resort for $60 on one of the name your own price websites.  We thought we were getting a steal, but after we paid the resort fee, the parking fee, and the taxes, that $60 turned into $103 for one night.  We could have stayed at a value resort for just a few dollars more and enjoyed extra magic hours and other insider perks. As of March 21, 2018, Disney World will begin charging parking fees.

#2.  Extra Magic Hours

One of the most well-known and well-loved perks that Walt Disney World provides to resort guests is Extra Magic Hours.  Guests who have magic bands linked to an on-site resort are treated to an additional hour before parks open or after they close.  Disney usually offers one early morning EMH at one of the parks and sometimes provides an evening EMH at a different park.  The evening extra magic hours are the real bonus for those families who can stay up late; instead of a single hour before the park opens to the public in the morning, Disney typically provides an additional two hours for park touring at night.  If you are going at a very busy time of the year, Extra Morning Hours can help your family see twice as much as they could without the bonus.

#1. Disney Magic

The #1 reason to stay on property is something you simply can’t put a price tag on.  Some people call it pixie dust, some call it Disney magic, but those who have worked in the service industry recognize it for what it truly is,  the best customer service you will likely ever encounter on a vacation.  Let’s face it, the reason most people come back to Walt Disney World is because of the way the cast members make visitors feel.  From greeting you like an old friend when you arrive at your resort, to keeping the parks spick and span, these cast members go above and beyond to ensure that each person who steps foot on Disney property is treated as though they are the only guest there.  When you stay at a Walt Disney World Resort, you don’t ever have to leave that magical bubble where happy thoughts and pixie dust keeps each day of your vacation magical and special.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort: A Disney World Resort

Crescent Lake is serenely nestled in the middle of Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. All of these resorts are conveniently located so that guests can hang out on the beach or catch a boat ride to Hollywood Studios.  As mentioned above, the short five to ten minute walk is all that it takes to get to the International Gateway entrance of the World Showcase at Epcot. For guests who arrive at this entrance prior to the World Showcase “official” opening time of 11am, there will be Cast Members to escort guests to Future World. Buses and Friendship boat launches take Yacht Club guests to other Walt Disney World destinations, as well.

Now if you are really ready to lap it up in luxury you can participate in the Yacht Club Concierge Level Rooms which will give you separate lounges and check-in, complimentary food and drinks, turn down service, just to name a few of the perks when you choose this option.

Everyone likes a good swim in sunny Florida and what better place to do just that than in the nautical themed Yacht Club Resort. The Yacht Club shares its primary pool, Stormalong Bay, with Disney’s Beach Club Resort. You can enjoy a mini-water park, as well as numerous areas like the lazy river, sand bottom pool, hot tubs and mini-water slides. An additional quiet pool area is entirely separate from the Stormalong Bay area and is great for guests who crave a bit of peace and quiet while on vacation.  It is located on the far extremity of the furthest side from Epcot.

Along with the amazing pools, there are also some unique extras dedicated to the Yacht Club Resort including a jogging trail, volleyball and tennis courts, outdoor campfire and movies, guided fishing excursions, Albatross Treasure Cruise and Bayside Marina.

If you are looking to relax for the day or after a long day at the parks, make sure you schedule some fun at the Ship Shape Massage, Salon and Fitness. Massages can be booked by reservation, but the fitness area is accessible 24 hours a day with your MagicBand.

• Epcot: Walking distance (Beach Club is a shorter distance of a walk, but Yacht Club is still not a long walk. Yacht Club is 2nd stop.)

Keep in mind if you ride a bus, there will be stops made at the Boardwalk Inn, as well as Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Also, when walking from your resort to Epcot there is a ticket center, as well as bag check so be ready to show your bags just like you would in the front entrance of the park.

Ahhhhh, the Great Northwest! It’s known for it’s majesty, beauty and the National Parks. While Disney World is host to a much different kind of park, the beautiful minds at Disney found a way to bring the Northwest home to Florida. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge captures the beauty, majesty, and rustic charm of a turn-of-the-century lodge perfectly. When you pull up, you will automatically feel like you have been transported out of the swampy Orlando area and into the beautiful Pacific Northwest. You will be welcomed home and invited into a gorgeous and grand lobby that rivals any you have ever seen. The smell alone is enough to bring you back every time you visit. It’s the smell of crisp pine and warm, cozy fireplaces. Welcome home to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Now let’s explore all this deluxe resort has to offer.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort is one of the resorts in the Magic Kingdom resort area, but it is not a monorail resort. It is considered a Magic Kingdom resort because of it’s location on Bay Lake. This resort has 727 guest rooms on property.

There are 3 different room types, similar to the other Disney Resorts. Standard View, Woods View, and Courtyard View. The price of the room depends on your view, with the least expensive option being the Standard and the most expensive being the Courtyard (bunk beds will cost you even more). Whether or not the view is worth the price is up to each individual.

Most of the rooms at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort rooms are 344 square feet and will accommodate 4 people to each room. Most rooms have either two queen size beds or one queen size bed and a set of bunk beds. Each room comes equipped with an alarm clock with mp3 player, mini fridge, ceiling fan, coffee maker with tea and coffee setup, ice bucket, safe, iron and ironing board, a small desk with outlets and two chairs, telephone, television, and hair dryer. Please note that if you have more than three hairs on your head, that the hair dryer is crap. Walt Express recommends bringing your own or sporting the ever popular Disney Ears, hat or headband. Also, if you need a lot of room to work, you will likely be using a bed to spread out on, because the desk/table here is very small.

Now if you are really ready to lap it up in luxury you can book one of the Club Level Rooms which will give you separate lounges and check-in, complimentary food and drinks, turn down service, just to name a few of the perks when you choose this option.

Transportation

Although Wilderness Lodge is a Magic Kingdom area resort, it is not on the monorail. Instead, it is accessible by boat or bus from the Magic Kingdom. This small bit of extra distance to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is the reason that it always seems so peaceful. Guests consider it quite the respite from the business of the parks. Here are the modes of transportation you can expect to the parks at this resort:

• Magic Kingdom: Friendship boat, bus or car ride

• Epcot: Bus, car ride, or take the boat to Magic Kingdom and get on the monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and then change to the EPCOT monorail

• Animal Kingdom: Bus or car ride

• Hollywood Studios: Boat, bus or car ride

Dining Options

Artist Point

Artist Point is the signature dining experience nestled within the resort. Enjoy the panoramic view of Bay Lake while savoring the flavors of the Pacific Northwest. The menu is inspired by seasonal ingredients and the focus is on “farm to fork” experiences. Favorite dishes include Smoked Portobello Bisque, Roasted Fall Squash Soup and Chinook Cedar Plan Salmon. You can also enjoy one of over 130 wine selections from their award-winning wine list. As at most signature restaurants located within Disney World resorts, there is a dress code. Tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit coverups, cutoff, torn clothing, and attire with offensive language or graphics will not be permitted.

Whispering Canyon

This table service restaurant is one of the most entertaining and fun-loving restaurants you will visit at Walt Disney World. The waitstaff here is friendly and they love to kid around and sass the customers. Expect sing-alongs, hobby horse races for the kids, and plenty of laughs at each other’s expense. I recommend the ribs or the bottomless platter and the bottomless milkshake can’t be beat. Oh, and don’t forget to ask for ketchup. To read our dining review of this restaurant, click HERE.

Roaring Fork

Roaring Fork is the quick service location at Wilderness Lodge. Although it is very small in comparison to food courts, it has a vast array of choices. No matter how picky your group may be, Roaring Fork will have something to ease the hunger pains that come with walking ten+ miles a day. The roast beef and bleu sandwich is by far the best entree choice, but you really can’t miss the magic bars and specialty cupcakes for dessert. My personal favorites are the S’mores and strawberry lemonade flavors. This is also the area where you will pick up your resort refillable mug if you have the Disney Dining Plan.

Trout Pass Pool Bar

Trout Pass Pool Bar is located in a small log cabin near the pool and provides a variety of drinks to keep you refreshed poolside. They offer beer, wine, sangria, as well as a handful of speciality mixed drinks and frozen concoctions. They also offer non alcoholic lemonade, smoothies, and coconut water.

Territory Lounge

This lounge is located just off the main lobby. It’s a cozy bar area with additional tables and chairs set up as well as a few comfy couches and a fireplace where you can cozy up to specialty drinks, coffees, and cocktails. There is a nice selection of beer and Pacific Northwest wines as well as a unique blend of appetizers. Choices include items like charcuterie boards, burgers, wings, and flatbread. You can also find the delicious Smoked Portobello Bisque which is also served at Artist Point.

Room Service

Room service is available for breakfast and dinner. You can order breakfast between 6:30 and 11:30am and dinner from 4:00pm until Midnight. Ask the front desk for a menu or call from the phone in your room.

Recreation

This resort has more than it’s fair share of recreation activities. The Silver Creek Springs Pool is the main pool and it is a great pool for the youngest swimmers. The slide is very child-friendly and the pool is fairly large. There are also two hot tubs located near the main pool and there is a kiddie pool and splash pad nearby. Life jackets are available poolside at no cost as long as they are returned. Complimentary towels are also provided for guests at the pool. Don’t forget to wear your MagicBand to the pool, because you will need it to enter the gates to the pool and splash pad area.

For those of you who prefer to swim without worrying if small children will learn to perfect their cannonball mere inches from your nose, you may find the quiet pool area more relaxing. The quiet pool can be located in the Boulder Ridge Villas area.

Along with the pools, you can find bike rentals, motorized boat rentals, and book fishing excursions. Movies Under the Stars and campfire activities are also offered. A list of movies and the schedule for the activities can be requested from the front desk. There are also jogging and walking trails on property as well. Don’t forget to stop by Sturdy Branches, the health club and spa.

I had the pleasure of staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa with my sweet mom for a mother/daughter retreat. It was a very special time for mom and I, not only because it was the only trip we have taken just the two of us to Disney together, but because we stayed at the Grand Floridian! The Grand Floridian was absolutely fabulous! We were very happy and we will definitely be back!

Having three kids under the age of five I don’t always get my bed turned down. I am always turning someone else’s bed down so, it was a nice retreat for my mom and I to share together. Since we had such a fabulous time, I have compiled six reasons the Grand Floridian may be the resort for you and your family while visiting Walt Disney World! Since we had such a fabulous time, I have compiled six reasons the Grand Floridian may be the resort for you and your family while visiting Walt Disney World!

1) Spacious Rooms

First up, the room! The room was very spacious and a lot bigger than most rooms at other resorts. At a whopping 440 square feet, this is massive compared to other Deluxe resorts. So if a spacious room is what you are looking for, then this is the place for you. The room was beautiful and the porch overlooking the water boasted the perfect serene scenery. It was the perfect place to drink coffee in the mornings or to rest your feet after a long day at the parks. If you need more convincing how lovely these rooms are, just look at these pictures!

2) Convenience

Location, Location, Location! The location, of course, is very convenient to the Magic Kingdom. We could actually hear the Magic Kingdom’s train everyday while we took a nap. (Yes, we took a nap! It was so nice.) You can easily take the monorail or taxi-boat to the Magic Kingdom, it was a very short ride with either form of transportation.

3) Character

The Grand Floridian definitely brings a lot of character and beauty to your trip. Not only is it convenient, but the grounds and resort is absolutely beautiful and you feel as if you are in a different world!

4) Awesome Restaurants (Quick Service and Table Service)

The Grand Floridian is full of fabulous eateries! Of course, everyone knows about the famous sit down restaurants, but the quick service restaurants are great too! Mom and I were super excited that they had a lot of organic and gluten-free selections. Everything was super easy to scoop up and run to the parks with or to sit and eat.

5)The Pools and Play Area

The pools and play areas were absolutely awesome! Whether you have little bits or older kids the pools are excellent for all. The splash pad area is adorable. We also love that you can see the fireworks from the main pool.

6) The Fireworks

The fireworks were absolutely amazing from the boat dock of the Grand Floridian. Mom and I were not expecting that at all! Disney pumped the music in from the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular, so we felt like we were right there (but, without the crowds!). Do not miss an opportunity to catch the fireworks from various locations at this resort.

There is a price for every good thing. You do pay for luxury at the Grand Floridian! The Grand Floridian is considered a deluxe resort at Walt Disney World. Therefore, be ready for a heftier price tag. However, with the bigger price tag comes service that is hard to beat and plenty of amenities and luxuries. This resort definitely made our mother/daughter retreat super special. We enjoyed every bit of it! Whether you want a long couples’ weekend, a mother/daughter retreat, or fun with the kids, this resort delivers!

Disney’s Beach Club Resort: A Disney World Resort

Do you ever want to vacation at the beach without having to fight the seaweed, jellyfish, and other creepy crawlies that inhabit the ocean? Or do you want a vacation where you won’t have to listen to your children complain that they are bored? Walt Disney World can help you combine the best of both worlds at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

Welcome home to Disney’s Beach Club Resort where you can swim in a sandy bottomed pool and play all day at the most popular theme parks in the world. Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a serene and beautifully themed resort that embodies the atmosphere and look of a late 1930’s New England beach resort. The resort is known for its white trim on a seaside blue background. Beach Club is a deluxe resort and is situated a short walk from Epcot’s International Gateway. This is only a brief boat ride from Hollywood Studios. With 576 guest rooms, conference facilities, and numerous amenities and recreational activities, everyone is sure to find something that makes them feel at home at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

Accommodations and Room Types

Beach Club Resort is a deluxe resort and thus has many room types to choose from including standard, lagoon or pool view, garden view, and numerous club level rooms and suites. Most of the rooms at Beach Club are about 380 square feet and were refurbished in 2016 to include new room decor in blue and tan tones, a spacious desk, and lots of drawer space. The resort is situated around the 25 acre Crescent Lake and many of the rooms overlook either the lake or the pool area. Most rooms include two queen size beds, a daybed, a desk and chair, as well as a reading chair. Some king beds are available, but please note that these guest rooms are limited in number and may have different dimensions than the rooms with two queen beds.  Guests will also find conveniences such as a mini fridge, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, coffee maker, and safe for smaller belongings at their fingertips as well. 

Check in is at 3 p.m. each day, but guests who arrive at 7 a.m. or later may leave their bags with the front desk if they would like to enjoy the parks before their room is available. Online check-in is available starting 60 days before arrival through the My Disney Experience app and this does speed the check-in process up considerably.  Check out is at 11 a.m. and express check out is available if you have a card on file and request it at check-in. A detailed receipt/bill will be delivered to your room by 7 a.m. and if the bill is correct, you are free to leave without visiting the front desk. 

Transportation

If you are into walking to Epcot this is the resort for you. It is the closest distance to Epcot than any of the Epcot resorts on property. It is very convenient to the action and it has beautiful scenery on the walking path. You can even see and hear your favorite Epcot fireworks when staying at this beautiful resort. These are the forms of transportation you can take directly from the resort:

Epcot: Walking distance

Magic Kingdom: Bus or car ride

Animal Kingdom: Bus or car ride

Hollywood Studios: Boat, bus or car ride

Keep in mind if you ride a bus there will be stops made at the Boardwalk Inn, as well as Disney’s Yacht Club.

Also, when walking from your resort to Epcot there is a ticket center, as well as bag check so be ready to show your bags just like you would in the front entrance of the park.

Dining Options

If you love food as much as most families do, then Beach Club Resort has its fair share of options for families and is a short walk away from all the great options at Yacht Club and Boardwalk Resort. There are two table service options and two quick service options for those who don’t want to leave their own little slice of paradise at Beach Club.

Cape May: Cape May is Beach Club Resort’s character meal for breakfast.  Characters often include Minnie, Goofy, and Donald all dressed up in their beach gear. At dinner, the characters are not available but a magnificent clambake is put out in place of the delicious breakfast; it’s very hard to choose which meal is better. While the character interaction is great at breakfast, it’s hard to deny the allure of an all you can eat crab leg and clambake extravaganza.

Beaches and Cream: I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!  Who doesn’t love ice cream? Beaches and Cream is located between the Beach and Yacht Club resorts. It is a tiny throwback to ice cream parlors of yesteryear. The menu has tons of American favorites like burgers and hot sandwiches, but the real star here is the ice cream. Beaches and Cream is probably most well know for a sundae called the Kitchen Sink. This sundae includes one scoop of every flavor of ice cream, plus every topping the parlor has in stock. Hurricane Hanna’s: This quick service location offers up sandwiches and other fast food items poolside. There is a fair amount of seating, all of which is located outside.

Beach Club Marketplace: This location is Beach Club’s main quick service location and is the place where you will pick up your refillable mugs if you have purchased the dining plan. Offerings here are standard and somewhat limited.

Pizza Delivery: As in every resort, pizza delivery is offered at Beach Club resort. You can order pizza, wings, and other standard pizza menu items, but the food quality isn’t the best.

Recreation

Beach Club Resort is known for being a resort that guests book when they don’t plan on spending much time in the theme parks. This is simply because there is so much to do at the resort. From the amazing pool to the numerous activities planned, this resort has the feel of an all-inclusive resort.Pools: Stormalong Bay is the name of the main pool area at Beach Club Resort and it is so popular that you must have your resort armband to get in to the waterpark/pool area (pool hopping is not allowed, only guests from Beach and Yacht Club Resorts can use Stormalong Bay). This area has over 3 acres of aquatic activities for people of all ages including a lazy river, slides, a gentle current pool area, and numerous slides including the Shipwreck/Flying Jib Slide, one of the highest on Disney property (including some of those at Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach). There are also numerous water play areas for smaller children. The most unique feature is that most of Stormalong Bay has a sandy bottom, just like the ocean without all the creepy crawlies that nature normally provides. There are also numerous quiet pools located around the resort for those guests who prefer a more relaxed, quiet pool experience.

Resort Activities: Beach Club also offers numerous other activities including volleyball, campfire/marshmallow roasts, poolside karaoke, movies under the stars, t-shirt decorating, and many other activities. There are also activities that come at an additional cost such as the Pick a Pearl activity and hair wraps.

With all of these amenities, activities, and it’s close proximity to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, Beach Club Resort is one of the most popular deluxe resorts at Walt Disney World. If you choose this resort, make sure you schedule plenty of time to enjoy the restaurants, activities, and pools so that you get the full experience of this beautiful and relaxed resort.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa: A Disney World Resort

I know when I think of luxury at Walt Disney World, I think of the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for sure! The property opened on June 28, 1988 as the Grand Floridian Beach Resort. The name changed to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa during the fall of 1997. The Grand Floridian was inspired by the Victorian era beach resorts built along Florida’s east coast during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is also one of the “Monorail Resorts”, meaning when you are a guest here, you are able to take the monorail to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or one of the other monorail resorts (Contemporary and Polynesian). Please note, there are several different monorails and you may have to switch monorails depending on your destination! You can also take the boat to the Magic Kingdom, or as with all resorts you also have the option of taking the buses to the parks as well.

Accommodations and Room Types

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is one of the resorts in the Magic Kingdom resort area and has 867 guest rooms on property.

It is also home to one of the newer DVC expansions completed in 2013. The Villas continue the theme of Victorian-era Palm Beach resorts found in the Grand Floridian while catering to the needs of DVC guests. The expansion makes the Grand Floridian the second monorail resort to receive a DVC addition, following Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort which opened in 2009.

There are 3 different room types, similar to the other Disney Resorts. Standard View, Lagoon View, and Theme Park View. The price of the rooms depends on your views, with the least expensive option being the Standard, and the most expensive being Theme Park views. Whether or not the view is worth the price is up to each individual. But, to be able to see the Wishes Fireworks with the songs being played on your television in your own room could be paradise in and of itself!

Most of the Grand Floridian rooms are 440 square feet, which makes them some of the largest standard rooms in Walt Disney World, and have two queen size beds, a daybed, and a table with two chairs. Each room comes equipped with dresser with 4 small drawers, table with 2 chairs, nightstand digital alarm clock, full-length mirror (on bath door), WiFi wireless Internet access, flat-panel TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, digital thermostat, in-room safe and tiny bottle of H2O-brand shampoo, and bar soap.

Bathrooms are large, with plenty of counter space and fluffy towels. Two shelves under the sink provide a small amount of storage. As well as, a separate dressing area next to the bathroom includes two sinks and enough counter space to fit most of your toiletries. The dressing area includes a sliding door that separates it from the sleeping area.

Now if you are really ready to lap it up in luxury you can participate in the Grand Floridian Concierge Level Rooms which will give you separate lounges and check-in, complimentary food and drinks, just to name a few.

The food is absolutely amazing at the Grand Floridian. It is known for a few of its restaurants, including a character meal option. So, let’s talk food….

Now let’s talk pools! Grand Floridian is known for its pools!

Grand Floridian has two pools. The Courtyard Pool, sits east of Grand Floridian’s Main Building. There is also a hot tub, kiddie pool and water play area.

The Beach Pool is located between the Main Building and the Villas. The Beach Pool is a 111,261-gallon pool overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon. Its main feature is a 181-foot water slide. The Beach Pool also has cabanas available for rent.

If you are looking to relax for the day or after a long day at the parks make sure you schedule some fun at the Senses – A Disney Spa, Grand Floridian’s spa. Senses includes 15 treatment rooms offering a multitude of treatments and featuring Florida citrus and botanical. A unique touch to this spa is that each treatment, or “Journey” as they call them, includes a small glass of a fruity elixir.

Not in the mood to go to Magic Kingdom for the fireworks? No worries! You can view the show from the Grand Floridian pier off of the Lagoon right before 9pm and you are all set to watch the night-time magic from your resort. They pump the music in for your listening pleasure and if you get there early enough you can even view the Electrical Water Pageant Parade as well! Right there on the Lagoon!

If you ask me, you cannot beat the magic that the Grand Floridian delivers. No matter the reason life brings you to the Grand Floridian you will always have a stay of a lifetime, with the kids or without. The Grand Floridian will for sure please. But, I am a little partial to this amazing resort!

If this sounds like you, look no further because we have a series that will explore numerous alternative locations that will knock your socks off. Our first installment is from our guest blogger, Stefanie and you don’t want to miss this one because you won’t even need a park ticket for this one!

Watching Wishes from Main Street USA in the heart of the Magic Kingdom is amazing, but I am here to tell you about a lesser known spot that gives you a whole new perspective on Disney’s Wishes Nighttime Spectacular-The Polynesian Village beach! My family has long been fans of the the Polynesian Resort, now called the Polynesian Village Resort. I have been staying there since I was a little, and I am blessed to have continued that tradition with my husband and our boys.

So to say that I was a little unnerved and skeptical when I heard about all the changes they were going to make a few years ago, is the understatement of the year! I am a creature of habit, and the addition of Disney Vacation Club, overwater bungalows,and the removal of the beloved fountain from the gorgeous lobby where we would take a family picture every trip, was almost more than my little heart could stand. While I still miss that fountain, and the distinct water smell that could only be described as the Polynesian lobby, I have come to realize Disney is working hard to restore the Polynesian to its former glory days.

However in the midst of all the changes, I realized they would never be able to take away my single favorite thing about the Polynesian, and that is our favorite fireworks viewing spot from the beach area. Now the beach at the Polynesian is kind of a cool little extension from the zero entry volcano pool, giving you the feeling you are in some great tropical location with palm trees swaying in the breeze and a beach bar close at hand. And, the best thing about it is the view across Seven Seas Lagoon looking straight at Cinderella Castle and the mountains of the Magic Kingdom. It is truly a magnificent sight for any Disney lover, and something you certainly will never find at any other tropical locale.

There is no better time to enjoy this beach than in the dark of night.  It’s almost perfection when you are sitting on a beach with tiki torches all around, relaxing with your feet in the sand, and a tropical drink in hand courtesy of the Barefoot Pool Bar. If you plan your timing right, you will also be able to experience the Electrical Water Pageant, a stunning display of lighted floats that cruise their way across the lagoon. But that is just the appetizer, a teaser of sorts for what is to come, because the main show of the night is Wishes! The soundtrack to Wishes is piped into the beach area at the Polynesian Village so you can experience the wonderful music while you watch the dazzling show. It is an amazing view, and one that you will not get from inside the Magic Kingdom. It is an entirely different experience seeing it from a farther perspective, and you will notice more aspects of the show that you might not ever have noticed from up close.

Another great thing about watching Wishes from the Polynesian, is that you do not need a theme park ticket to experience the show. While we have stayed at the polynesian quite frequently and watched the show from there, we have also watched Wishes from there if we have just been passing through the area, but don’t have enough time for a full day at the parks. You can still enjoy all the resort has to offer, whether you plan on having dinner at ‘Ohana or some cocktails and polynesian inspired small bites at Trader Sam’s Grotto, and then you can finish off the night with Wishes!

So now that I’ve shared my favorite secret spot for Wishes viewing, I hope you will all do yourself a favor and check it out! I promise you won’t regret it!

There are many reasons why Walt Disney World is called the happiest place on Earth. From the moment your little one meets their idol in Mickey Mouse or Minnie, to that warm feeling you get inside when you look down Main Street and see Cinderella Castle, it is truly a magical place. Even with all of that magic, there is one thing many people don’t associate Walt Disney World with…romance.  Believe it or not, there are quite a few places where you could (and may I say SHOULD) pop the big question.

There are so many different places at Walt Disney World where a marriage proposal would be ideal, but I don’t want to overwhelm you or give away too many surprises for those who might already be planning a special moment to get that special someone to say “Yes!”.  Instead, let us take a look at a few options and then I will leave you to top them with your own special touches to make the moment truly memorable.

The Contemporary Resort

Imagine sitting atop of Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  You have just finished enjoying some of the finest cuisine Disney has to offer and you look at your watch to find that it’s 8:59 P.M. (right on schedule).   Next thing you know, they are dimming the lights and you hear the beginning sequence to the Wishes Fireworks Extravaganza. You tell your honey to look out the window and bam! You’re now watching the most extraordinary fireworks presentation in the United States, all from the comfort of your dinner table. The grand finale is nearing and you sneak out of your seat and onto one knee.  When the fireworks are over and your significant other turns back to the table,  she will see you on one knee,  and her breath will be taken away by the sight of you there asking for her to join you in making a life together.  Next thing you know, you’re engaged and the whole restaurant is clapping and your waiter is bringing champagne to toast the occasion. This would truly be an unforgettable moment and you are sure to win brownie points every time your sweetheart tells her friends about this romantic proposal.

Your Favorite Attraction, Show, or Parade

Not a fan of the inside of a restaurant proposal idea?  That’s perfectly okay, because I have a couple more ideas that will honestly make for something either of you will ever forget. There is a live action show that happens in front of Cinderella’s Castle on a daily basis, “Dream Along With Mickey.” Not only does it feature many of your favorite Disney characters such as Mickey and Minnie, it also showcases Princes and Princesses. With songs like, “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” and ” Some Day My Prince Will Come”, this show is one that will warm your heart in so many ways.

So picture this, you watch the show with the Castle in the background and it comes to an end. What a perfect time and spot to get down on one knee to ask your significant other to spend the rest of their life with you. Once again the crowd goes wild, and it also gives opportunity for a magical kiss in front of the castle.  Don’t forget to schedule the PhotoPass photographer to catch your magical moment, that way you can share this special memory with professional quality photography.

Disney’s Wedding Pavilion

The final magical place on my list is practically perfect if you prefer a more private place to pop the big question.  There is a pathway from The Grand Floridian to the Polynesian that is honestly a nice, quiet stroll and this little walk will take you right past Disney’s Wedding Pavilion. Honestly, with so many marriages going on here, this, in my opinion is the most romantic place on Disney grounds. From the beautiful shrubbery to the breathing backdrop of Bay Lake, Disney’s Wedding Pavilion is a place where you want to stop and just take in the scenery with the one you love.  If you plan it just right, this stroll will have you both focused on romance and what a storybook perfect time to get down on one knee and pop the big question.  Use the natural beauty as a backdrop and your special someone is sure to always remember this magical moment forever and be so glad to spend forever with you.

If a proposal is in your future, don’t discount the beauty and magic that Disney can provide for such a special moment.  Although these 3 choices are all romantic in their own sense, any location your choose on Walt Disney World property is going to be a hit with the one you love.   Walt Disney World is sure to give you a great start to your very own happily ever after and what better place to seal the deal than at the happiest place on Earth?
