Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort: A Disney World Resort Review

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort is a Disney Value Resort hotel featuring giant icons that salute classic Disney films such as Disney·Pixar’s Toy Story, Fantasia, The Love Bug, The Mighty Ducks and 101 Dalmatians. All Star Movies Resort is one of the most “Disney” themed resort choices, complete with larger than life icons! Located in the Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort Area, All Star Movies is a must for all kids, no matter what age! If you love the classic Disney movies you will love this resort and all of the magical Disney themes!

NEW Update!

Disney has began a complete refurbishment process for all of the All Star Resorts, beginning with All Star Movies. We recently visited and were given a newly refurbished room! These updates are HUGE! Queen size beds will replace the full/double size beds and each room will now offer a coffee maker! Also, one of the beds is a fold out bed, giving you a lot more space when the bed is not in use. Super cute! You will also find TONS of storage, from the main dresser to bedside tables with more space and charging areas for your phones and devices. We LOVED this feature!

Rooms

Guest rooms are divided into 5 pairs of 3-story buildings. Each pair is themed after one of these following featured movies: Fantasia, Toy Story, 101 Dalmatians, Mighty Ducks and The Love Bug. Fantasia, Toy Story and 101 Dalmatians sections are considered “preferred” and are priced just a little higher than the standard rooms. Preferred rooms are guaranteed to be located closer to bus stops and the food court.

All rooms will have either two queen beds or one king size bed. These rooms are pretty standard, but will be great for those on a budget or for those who like some extra “Disney” theming. All rooms also have a beverage cooler for keeping drinks and a few perishables chilled.

Cinema Hall

Cinema Hall is where you will find everything you need while on your magical vacation. This is where you will find guest services, shopping, dining and tons of fun!

DINING: What would you expect at an “All Stars Movies” resort in lieu of dining options? Well, that would be a World Premiere food court, of course! Five movie marquees are waiting with some great options in dining. You will find the basics, such as pizzas, burgers and more. You will also find options such as pastas, grilled items, specialty items and delicious bakery items. You may also find one of the new iridescent cupcakes!

I have to say, this was one of the best food courts we have dined in! The BBQ grilled chicken sandwich is a SUPERSTAR! Be sure to ask about the SECRET MENU!

You may also want to check out the Silver Screen Spirits pool bar, located next to the Fantasia pool. Grab a nice cocktail and relax while the kids swim and splash around! I do have to recommend the Pina Colava!

ARCADE: The kids will want to check out the Reel Fun arcade with state of the art arcade games. This is a great place for the kids to play while you get to shop a little.

Recreation and Pools

The larger than life Fantasia themed pool is right outside of Cinema Hall and comes complete with Sorcerer Mickey spraying water. For smaller ones, there is a kiddie pool and splash area nearby.

LAUNDRY: No one really wants to think about laundry on a Disney vacation, but sometimes, it is a must! There are a couple of spots for doing this “dirty deed” around the pool areas of the resort. There is one at the main Fantasia pool and one at the Mighty Ducks pool area. For more info on laundry in Disney World, just click the link!

MOVIES UNDER THE STARS: Of course All Stars Movies has Movies Under the Stars, which you can catch at The Reel Spot near the food court. After a long day at the parks, this is a great way to relax and unwind! Don’t forget to stop by the pool bar for a little adult beverage!

EXTRAS: For those who like to stay in shape while on vacation, there is a jogging trail. There is also a playground located between the Fantasia and Toy Story sections of the resort.

Getting to the Parks

This resort has bus service to and from each park and sometimes will share a bus with the other All Star Resorts. The bus stop is right in front of Cinema Hall.

Tips

• Those who prefer a lower traffic, quieter area, should request the Love Bug buildings.
• Guests staying in the Mighty Ducks buildings may find it closer to catch the bus at the stop in front of the All Star Music Resort’s Melody Hall.
• Be sure to leave in plenty of time for dining and other “timed” events. This resort will sometimes share it’s bus service with the other All Star Resorts and sometimes takes a little longer.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort:  A Disney World Resort Review

Staying at the The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort was a great experience for my family and I.  We were very happy with the cabin itself, being a family of five, a typical hotel or resort room can get very tight, very quickly.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is considered a moderate resort and is in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area.

Here is a little preview of the Fort Wilderness area!

Rooms

The cabin sizes are much larger than a typical moderate room and sleeps up to six people. The cabins themselves are very rustic and have a woodsy feel to them.

The cabin came equipped with a full kitchen, two bunk beds, a double bed and even a murphy bed. So we, for sure, had a lot of room and at least my boys had a hall to run up and down when we got back from the parks. They had room to play, unlike in other rooms we have stayed.

Getting Around Fort Wilderness Resort

The cabins are located furthest from the main building so, it’s almost impossible to walk from the cabins to the main building because of the great distance. There’s also no walkway, only roads that zigzag around the resort and through the other loops. Other resort amenities, like the pools, tennis courts, campfire pit, restaurants, petting zoo, and other locations of interest, are throughout the resort, making no cabin or campsite accessible to everything you might want to do or see by foot. Keeping that in mind, Fort Wilderness has an internal bus system that will take guests around the resort or to one of the three locations that receive external bus and boat service to the theme parks and Downtown Disney. You are more than welcome to rent golf carts or bicycles to get around the park, as well. Keep in mind if you drive or have a car you cannot get to these locations by vehicle. Vehicles can only be used to enter and leave the resort or visit the Meadows Trading Post. You will need a golf cart or bicycle.

Extra Fun Stuff

Although the theming of this resort may not appeal to the littles, this area will make up for it, for sure! The extras at Fort Wilderness are amazing, the recreational activities are hands down the best at this resort. They definitely have the most fun at this resort!

• Chip’n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-a-long: This nightly campfire, s’more roast, and movie, hosted by Chip ‘n Dale is an all time favorite! This awesome extra is at no extra cost. Make sure you check and see what movies are playing during your stay at check-in.
• Tours of the property on Segway.
• Pony, horseback, wagon, sleigh rides
• Archery lessons
• Fishing pole rentals
• Boat Rentals
• Pools: The pools aren’t as grand at this resort as other resorts, but guest can enjoy a good way to cool off in the pool area along with a nice area for the smaller guests too.

Dining

The dining options at Fort Wilderness is awesome! Although Fort Wilderness does not have a designated food court they make up for it with other dining options.

• Meadows Snack Bar located near the pool is a great option for snacks and quick lunch like hot dogs and pizza.
• Trail’s End Restaurant is a great option for anyone. It has many varieties of foods and is easily adapted to accommodate allergy sufferers. Great choice for anyone with a wide range pallet. You can sit down for buffet style or traditional style dining, depending on the time of day you visit. They also have take out.
• Geyser Point
• Hoop De Doo Musical Revue is a must-see. With its character and charm it will for sure dazzle you with the dining and of course the entertainment!

Extra Tips

Overall, the Fort Wilderness Cabins are roomy and will keep your larger family staying on Disney property on the cheap-er side. Fort Wilderness is the best choice for staying on Disney Property, especially if you plan to take advantage of the kitchen.

Just a few things to keep to remember, as I mentioned above, when staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins:

• The resort is very spread out. Be prepared to rent a golf cart or bring your own.
• There is not a food court at this resort.
• There is no vehicle parking at the Dining Hall. Again, rent a golf cart, take a bus or ride a bike.

Fort Wilderness Cabins share resort areas with travel trailers and RVs and is very spread out, like I said before. The resort has bus transportation to all of the parks and has a ferry boat ride to the Magic Kingdom. We loved the location, it was very close to the Magic Kingdom, which is where my kids like to be at all times when we visit, as I’m sure yours do too! It was very close and made it convenient to come back to the room for extra clothes or maybe a little rest.

We really did like the Fort Wilderness Cabins and were very happy with the amenities. For the money we spent and the location it was well worth it for this stay!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort: A Disney World Resort Review

Are you ready for a “different” and more relaxing resort for your next Disney World vacation? This resort is truly something to behold. Rich decor, delicious eateries, lush accommodations and on the monorail! What more could you ask for? Maybe a view of Magic Kingdom’s nightly fireworks show? You got it!!

The Poly

When you think of the ultimate in luxury, you think of a rich tropical setting. Luckily, Disney had the same thought when building this Deluxe Resort. This Poly (as locals like to call it) has been around since the beginning of Walt Disney World in 1971. It has quite the rich history as well! Many do not know that this resort is where John Lennon officially was the last to sign the papers to end The Beatles while on vacation with his family in 1974. I wonder if it was a “Hard Days Night” after Lennon made the decision to sign the dotted line?

The Polynesian is also one of the “Monorail Resorts”, meaning when you are a guest here, you are able to take the monorail to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or one of the other monorail resorts (Contemporary and Grand Floridian). Please note, there are several different monorails and you may have to switch monorails depending on your destination! You also can take the boat to the Magic Kingdom or as with all resorts you also have the option of taking the buses to the parks as well. All modes of available transportation are available while vacationing here.

Accommodations and Room Types

The Polynesian is one of the largest resorts in the Magic Kingdom area and has 847 guest rooms on property. It is also home to one of the newest DVC expansions with the most coveted Bungalows on Seven Seas Lagoon. But since we’re looking more into the regular rooms, we’ll leave the bungalows for another day.

There are four different room types, similar to the other Disney Resorts. Standard View, Lagoon View, Pool or Marina View and Theme Park View. The price of the rooms depends on your views, with the least expensive option being the Standard, and the most expensive being Theme Park views. Whether or not the view is worth the price is up to each individual. But to be able to see Magic Kingdom’s Fireworks show with the songs being played on your television in your own room could be paradise in itself!

The rooms are all similarly situated at 415-476 square feet, with either two queen size beds or a few king size beds scattered throughout. The rooms also have an armoire, table and chairs, small fridge, coffee maker, safe, hair dryer, and iPod dock. The rooms can accommodate a family of 5 with a child under the age of 3.

If you would love the amenities of a Deluxe Resort, but don’t care what the view is out your window, then the standard view will be perfect. Usually this means you might get a nice look at the parking lot and a bit further away from the pools and activities. The Lagoon View is a view of the lake of course! And the best of the best and most sought after is the Theme Park View! Here you get a picturesque view of Cinderella’s Castle and in the evening can hopefully get a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom Fireworks show. However, if you have little ones traveling with you, remember the noise of the fireworks will be more present in the rooms facing Magic Kingdom if you’re trying to get them to go to bed! Just close those curtains!

Club Level Option

Now, for the best of the best, there is CLUB LEVEL. It is pricier, but well worth the extra cost! At Club Level, here is what you will receive:

• Evening turn-down
• Secured key access to the club-level lounge, serving refreshments 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily
• Complimentary fax assistance
• Access to Concierge service at the King Kamehameha Club
• Complimentary health club access
• Complimentary newspapers in Club Level lounge
• Personalized Front Desk and Guest Services

All of these rooms are situated in different buildings, called longhouses. Depending on your need, there are advantages to each one. There are many to choose from with 11 longhouses on property (Tonga, Aotearoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, Hawaii, Samoa, Niue, Rarotonga, Tokelau, Tahiti, and Rapa Nui.) You might need to brush up on your Geography because each name of the longhouses represent authentic Polynesian Islands!

Dining Options

Now, let’s talk about why many people who are not staying at the Polynesian come here…the food! Lucky you if you’re a guest here, you will have access to some of the best meals on Disney World property!

There are 3 different Quick Service restaurants for you to choose from. For those delicious Dole Whips, you can get them here at Pineapple Lanai! If you need a quick meal, Captain Cook’s is a great place to grab something on the go. We recommend the Pulled Pork Nachos! Finally, if you get hungry lounging by the pool or need a refreshing cocktail, you can head over to Barefoot Pool Bar!

If you’re looking to have a meal that your whole family can sit together, there are 8 delicious options! To start your day off right you can dine at Kona Cafe (we love the Tonga Toast, French Press Kona Coffee, and Liliko’i Juice!) If you love buffets, there’s a few to choose from here too! The much loved ‘Ohana is a fan favorite with the amazing service and bread pudding for dessert! They also have a wonderful character breakfast with your favorite friends from Lilo and Stitch!

The other buffet is the Luau Cove which you can enjoy close to the pool and amenities. If you’re wanting a more causal dining experience, but not quite as casual as quick service, they also have a few options here as well. Kona Island is a great place to get your sushi fix! The Tambu Lounge is wonderful as well as the Disney Fan Favorite’s; Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace. While you dine on unique South Seas culinary delights, pair it with an equally unique drink like the “Dark & Tropical Stormy”. Here’s a little tip, some of the drink orders trigger fun little extra magic experiences!

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

Finally, if you’re looking for a dinner and a show and can’t quite make it to Hawaii, look no further than the Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. This luau is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate with Hula Dancing, Fire Dancing, and drummers. This all you care to eat buffet will have everything for every appetite from Island Pulled Pork to fresh salads with mango-poppy seed dressing. And for the little ones they have mini corn dogs and of course pizza! This dinner show is two dining credits on the Disney Dining Plan.

Recreation

Now that’s you’ve eaten your fill, after waiting the 15 minutes your mom told you to, go check out the pools! The newly refurbished Lava pool boasts an impressive 142 foot long water slide along with a towering volcano! It also has zero depth entry similar to a beach, so for those little ones, or those who just want a quick dip, you can take your time getting into the water.

If you’re looking for a little more action, you can also have a game of volleyball, or stretch your legs on the beautiful running trail. There’s also lots of play areas for the little ones like Lilo’s Playhouse or the fun for all ages campfire with some favorite furry friends! Or if your more of the water craft type, you can rent motorized boats or go fishing! You can do as much or as little as you’d like while you’re in paradise!

Shopping

With three shops nearby, you can shop till you drop! BouTiki, Disney’s Magnolia, Palm and Oak Trail Pro Shop and of course, Moana Mercantile make for some pretty amazing experiences!

Walt Express Tips

Now, here is my little tip for you that is a horribly kept secret! If you don’t want to brave the crowd in Magic Kingdom for the nightly fireworks show, you have the most perfect viewing spot right on the beach of the resort! Get there a little before 9 pm and you’ll have the best view of the Electrical Water Pageant as well! Two beautiful night time shows for the price of, well, none! You do not have to have a reservation for the Poly to enjoy these shows, but it is asked of those who are not guests of the resort to be respectful of those who are. This is a great way to see the fireworks show at least once, and they pipe in the music to the beach to give it that extra magic!

Staying at the Polynesian Village Resort will be an unforgettable experience you and your family will remember for a lifetime!

Sports enthusiasts will definitely be excited to stay at this amazing Disney World resort. Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort is considered a Value Resort and located in the Animal Kingdom Resort Area. Read all about it in Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort: A Disney World Resort Review.

This budget friendly resort is decorated in just that, sports, along with bright and bold colors that represent football, tennis, baseball, basketball and surfing.

Rooms

Although All Star Sports rooms are slightly smaller than a moderate resort room, it still packs a punch with all of the onsite amenities that other resorts have on property.

Extra Fun Stuff

Disney’s All Star Sports Resort has two pools. The main pool, Surfboard Bay pool, which is located behind the Stadium Hall (the resort’s central area). The Grand Slam pool is the quieter pool of the two and is located in front of the Home Run hotel. Both are perfect for quenching the Florida sun and cooling off after a “hard day” at the parks or for a day you would like to take a day off from all of the hustle and bustle of the parks.

If swimming isn’t your thing, All Star Sports also has a jogging path for those who like to stay active or The Game Point Arcade that will provide hours of entertainment for kids of all ages. 

Dining

All Star Sports Resort is not known for their sit down dining options, especially since there is none. 🙂 But, it is equipped with a quick service dining experience: End Zone Food Court. You will find meals like pizza, chicken nuggets and fries. Be sure to grab a refillable mug while you are there. 

Transportation

Each of the All Star Resorts has buses dedicated to run from resort-to-park and return. However, at some times during the day, the buses from a park may drop guests off at all 3 resorts. This is especially true at night after a park closes or different times of the year. So make sure you ask before making a reservation at this resort.

Extra Tips

• If you want a room close to the food court and bus stop, request the Surfs Up or Touchdown buildings. If you want a little quieter location, request Hoops Hotel or Center Court.

Pros and Cons

Pros

• The price that you will pay for a value resort is great. You are only sleeping and showering there, and yes, it’s still Disney style!
• Over the top, Disney theming. Of course, this is what a lot of people want. The decor is always bright and cheerful!

Cons

• The buses do not go directly to the parks. They stop at all of the All Star Resorts.
• There are no table service restaurants in any of the value resorts.

The Electrical Water Pageant At Magic Kingdom

This is a magical display of lights that travels from the Seven Seas Lagoon to Bay Lake. Check out the times of showings before you make plans! 

Main Street Phone Conversations

(In the past,) The Main Street Confectionery in the Magic Kingdom has an old phone on the wall inside. Pick it up, listen real carefully! There is an old conversation between, if I remember correctly, a mother and daughter. It takes you back to another time and place! It is truly magical! (We are not sure if this is still available! If you have done this experience let us know in our FB Group, Disney Express Lane. We would love to hear about your experience.)

Epcot’s World Showcase Hidden Gems

I have written a-many-of-articles about Epcot, I love Epcot! I couldn’t just pin down a couple of things, so I just threw in the whole thing!!!! The World Showcase may not be a hidden gem, but it has many hidden gems inside of it. I find something new every time we go. From watching all of the shows, street bands, performers and different foods each country has to offer, it is truly a hidden gem!

Find Divine in the Animal Kingdom

Divine is a street performer only found in Animal Kingdom. She is very easy to miss at times, she sometimes hides in the bushes and trees. But, when you do finally see her, you see her elegance and grace out shines them all. She is a stilt walker covered in vines and face paint that blends into the landscape around her. She usually has a crowd around her, so watch out for the crowd or you can grab a Times Guide at the front of the park for her performance times.

Watch The Fireworks From The Polynesian Or Grand Floridian Resorts

I know everyone likes to gather around the castle for the fireworks but, I know that is not for everyone. Although you do need to experience the fireworks from Main Street U.S.A. at least once, the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian hold a close candle to the actual castle fireworks. Try snagging a dining reservation at one of the fantastic restaurants that the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian have to offer, then head out to watch the fireworks when your belly is full and you are ready to relax.

Yehaa Bob at The River Roost at Port Orleans Riverside

This place is so much fun! Yehaa Bob puts on a great show while you sit and have a drink at the bar of Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. You can hear him all around the lobby and gift shop area near by, which is great if you get there too late and can’t find a seat. Also, don’t worry about his performance not being G-rated since it is a watering hole. No need to worry at all, kids are more than welcome. They would actually enjoy it if they are awake! Watch a Disney Movie under the Stars

Most all of the resorts on WDW property have Movie Nights Under the Stars. This is always a hidden gem my daughter and I love. One time we were able to watch Secret of the Wings under the stars in January. It wasn’t too cold and definitely wasn’t hot. Perfect! Memory we will never forget! Check your resort for a movie schedule! 

The Sword In The Stone

This is pure magic! I mean, what kid (or grown-up) doesn’t want to be the ONE to pull the sword from the stone! This treat is usually done once a day in Fantasyland and sometimes a “show” will take place. It has been rumored that if you are the lucky one to pull the sword from the stone, a celebration treat is in order! Although this is not listed or advertised, you can find the sword and stone in front of Prince Charming’s Regal Carousel!

Those are just a few hidden gems I love and my list grows and changes almost every time I go to Walt Disney World, so I’m sure it’s not the last post I will write.

Are you a “larger” family and want to go to Disney World? Most Disney rooms are intended for families of four or less – so finding hotels that accommodate families of 5 or more presents some unique logistical challenges. Here are some of our Favorite Hotels for Larger Families in the Disney World Area.

Today, I will only be focusing on off-property hotels and resorts that are a short distance from the parks. I am sure there are more that are affordable as well, but I am staying fairly close to the parks and all of the action!

I have a family of five and in Disney standards, we are considered a large family. Therefore, there are fewer affordable options out there. BUT, don’t despair, they are out there and I am here to share what those options are! We have stayed in a few of these resorts and hotels and have been very pleased with them. All of these options have great reviews and they will not disappoint.

So let’s dive right into hotels for larger families in the Disney World area!

B Resort

All B Resort “Captivating Queen” rooms will accommodate 5 people. Each room has 2 queen beds, a sleeper sofa and one bathroom. Each room is 300 square feet and has everything you and your family will need located at 1905 Hotel Plaza Blvd, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830.

Wyndham Bonnet Creek

All 2 Bedroom Condos at Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort will sleep up to 8 people. Each condo has a King bed, 2 double beds, queen sleeper sofa and two bathrooms, kitchen and washer/dryer. Each condo is 1257 square feet.

Doubletree Guest Suites in the Walt Disney World Resort

All 1 Bedroom Suites sleep up to 6 people. Each suite has 2 queen beds, a pullout sofa and one bathroom. Each room is 540 square feet and has everything you and your family will need located at 2305 Hotel Plaza Blvd, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830.

Swan/Dolphin

Technically you have 2 options here:

1. All Deluxe Alcove Rooms accommodate 5 people. Each room has 1 bed in the sleeping area: queen bed, sofa bed, optional roll away bed and one bathroom. Rooms are 500 square feet.
2. All Standard Dolphin Rooms accommodate 5 people. Each room has 1 bed in sleeping area: double bed, sofa bed, optional roll away bed and one bathroom. Rooms are 500 square feet.

• Side Note: Technically this resort is offsite but has many on site perks such as early dining reservations, Early Morning Entry and Extended Evening Hours – it also is literally steps away from Epcot.

Hilton Orlando Resort Lake Buena Vista

All Junior Suites will sleep up to 6 people. Each room has 2 double beds, a sleeper sofa and one bathroom. Each room is 500 square feet.

Buena Vista Palace Resort

All 2 Bedroom Suites will sleep up to 6 people. Each room has 2 queen beds, a sofa sleeper and 1 1/2 bathrooms. Each room is 800 square feet.

• Side Note: This Hotel has a Sunday Morning Character Breakfast on property at an extra cost.

Extra Tips:

• All of these options are on Buena Vista Drive, which is in the Disney Springs area, with the exception of the Swan and Dolphin resorts which are in the Epcot Resort Circle.
• There are other options out there, such as the Marriott on Flamingo Crossings. You can read about it at Marriott’s TownPlace Suites: A Hotel and Resort in Orlando Review.
• All of these options can be booked through a Disney Travel Planner.
• Based on my recommendations, my own family and friends have stayed at the resorts above and they all have positive reviews. These hotels and resorts are not your only options, but they are the closest to the parks.

Before you make your decision to stay on or off Walt Disney World Resort Property make sure you research and get all of your facts. What’s right for one family may not be right for the next. My family and I have stayed on and off property and have had different experiences each time. All good, but with each trip we have different things that are important to us. So, keep that in mind, depending on what you want to accomplish during your vacation will determine whether you want to stay on or off-property.

Disney’s Pop Century: A Disney World Resort Review

Update 2/18/2018

This resort has been going through a lengthy refurbishment and is almost complete. The main focus on the refurbishment has been the rooms. We are really impressed with these magical changes! Some rooms will now feature a fold down Murphy bed, for maximum space. Also added, is a coffee bar/area with extra space!

Disney’s Pop Century Resort is in the “value” family of Disney Resorts and has been around since the new millennium. Being one of Disney’s newest resorts, it boasts bright colors, larger than life Disney icons and tons of “Disney style”. We have stayed in this “out of sight” resort many times and always find new and fun things to do. On our last trip, we found the coolest little spot with a huge TWISTER game nestled between a few trees…my boys played there for an hour (Mom just watched…hey, I wanted to enjoy the rest of our trip, WITHOUT any broken bones!).

Decades

Pop is divided into “decades”, meaning each decade is represented by a different building. The buildings run along Hourglass Lake and connects to Art of Animation by “Generation Gap Bridge”. We love to run over (OK, we all know I do not run, but walk briskly) over to Art of Animation’s playground, just across the bridge. It is beautiful!

The “decade buildings” house only 4 room types, which makes it easy to choose. Those include: Standard, Preferred, Standard Pool View and Preferred Pool View. The preferred locations are in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s buildings. “Preferred” simply means you will be guaranteed a closer room to bus stops and the “Everything Pop” area. Our family is willing to pay the extra money (which is usually around a $15-$20 per night difference) for a preferred room, just because Pop Century is large resort and we like to save our walking for the parks! The “Crib” or “Pad”

Now, don’t go to thinking just because Pop Century is a value resort that it lacks anything. In fact, the values are more “Disney decorated” than the moderate resorts. The room layouts are just normal rooms-nothing fancy, except for great Disney themes all over the place, which we LOVE! Your standard room will have two full-size beds, a dresser, blah, blah, blah…who cares, you are in Disney World and all you need is a nice place to sleep and shower, with “Mouse-keeping” of course. “Mouse-keeping” makes your bed, cleans your room and bathroom, all while you are gone to have a fun filled day!

There are king size rooms and handicapped accessible rooms available, as well. You will have it all right here in Pop Century!

“Splashing” in the Past

One of the most unique and fun places around Pop Century Resort are the fun and interesting pool areas! In keeping with the “past”, you will find three pools to keep you cool and refreshed! “Hippy Dippy Pool” is located just right outside of “Everything Pop” and is complete with “Petals” pool bar for a grown-up treat! A kiddie pool is close by for smaller swimmers. There are two other “psychedelic” pools nearby, as well! In the 1950’s section of the resort, you will find the “bowling pin” pool and over in the 1990’s section, you will find the “computer” pool!! Don’t worry, you won’t get an “electrical shock” by jumping on in!

Everything Pop

Everything Pop is where you will find everything you need such as resort check-in and concierge, shopping, dining and even an arcade! Yes, the Fast Forward Arcade will keep your little ones (and big ones) busy for quite a while.

Speaking of food, yes, I know this is everyone’s favorite part…Pop Century does have one of the best food courts around! There are many different varieties available including: “build your own pastas and salads”, flatbread, Ethnic cuisines and tons more. Of course, the regular burgers, chicken and pizza are available for those pickier eaters. Breakfast options are also available during the mornings. “Everything Pop” is the ONLY place you can get the famous TIE-DYED CHEESECAKE. Yes, it is as delicious as it looks!

During various times during the day, all of the cast members stop and dance to top hits of the decades, making you ready to do “The Twist” while you dine!

Getting to the Parks

The big bonus to this resort is the fact that it is the only value resort that does not share a bus with other resorts. This simply means, NO STOPS…straight to the parks and straight back! Park buses are located right in the front of “Everything Pop”…you can’t miss it! Next to the bus area, you will find Magical Express and luggage pick-up/drop off. This is area is super fun, you never know what will be there for the kids to enjoy including larger than life building blocks, hula hoops, bubbles and more!

POP Extras and Tips

• Pop Century is about to get even better. Refurbishments will begin in October 2016.
• Bring your running shoes and take advantage of the one-mile jogging trail around the resort!
• Movies under the Stars are available most nights-check your room for movie titles and times.
• A “far-out” playground awaits your little ones in the 70’s section of the resort!

Port Orleans French Quarter a Disney World Resort Review

If you can’t tell by the name, Port Orleans French Quarter is the sister Resort to Port Orleans Riverside. Where Riverside pays homage to the Old South, French Quarter pays homage to the Crescent City, New Orleans! If you’ve ever been to New Orleans during Mardi Gras, then you’ll feel right at home! Disney-fied of course, so no bead throwing please! And if you’ve never had the chance to visit New Orleans then this Resort gives you a good feel of one of the best cities in the world!

Port Orleans French Quarter is one of my favorite moderate Resorts! With its small size, you get a very intimate feel. The smallness of the Resort also helps if you are going to Disney on a budget. At the larger Resorts, it is very tempting to pay extra for a Preferred Room to cut down on your walking. Rest assured that a Standard View room at French Quarter is close enough to all of the Resort amenities, thus saving you money!

Another excellent advantage to the Port Orleans Resorts, at both Riverside and French Quarter, is it is very convenient to get a different experience by simply visiting the Resort you aren’t staying at. It’s a short walking distance between the two Resorts with a paved path that takes you along the banks of the Sassagoula River. Not up for the walk? Well these Resorts have you covered on that too! Head down to the boat launch and simply board the boat heading to the other Resort.

Rooms with a View

Port Orleans French Quarter is home to 1,008 rooms that are 314 square feet each. Each room is decorated with New Orleans flare boasting rich golds, deep purples and yellow color schemes.You can choose between five room types; Standard View, Garden View, River View, Pool View or King Bed. All of the rooms are the same square footage and layout just different views and price points. All rooms accommodate four people with the exception of the King Bed category, which accommodates two. I haven’t stayed in anything other than a Standard View or a Garden View but having walked the entire grounds, any room category is an excellent choice.

The Standard View rooms offer views of a parking or service area. A Garden View room will give you views of the gardens, which are beautiful and well-manicured. River View rooms come with a gorgeous view of the Sassagoula River. Pool View Rooms give you great vantage point of the resort pool, Doubloon Lagoon. A King Bed room will accommodate two people and offers views of the gardens or courtyard.

Room Amenities

You will find the typical amenities in the individual rooms; nightstand, phone, alarm clock and dresser with mini fridge and TV. In the bathrooms are a vanity with sink and a bar to hang clothing with a shelf above. This area is closed off from the room with a privacy curtain. Adjacent to the vanity area is a closed room with a tub and toilet.

Pool Party

The Resort is host to an amazing pool area, Doubloon Lagoon. King Neptune sits atop a giant sea serpent, “Scales”, as he watches over all of the fun being had. The 51-foot long water slide takes you slithering through “Scales” and finally sliding off of his tongue into the water. There is a Doubloon Lagoon Water Play Area that is suited just for the little ones in your party. Guests must be under 48″ to splash around in this area.

And of course, we won’t forget about the adults! Located in the Doubloon Lagoon area is a whirlpool spa and Mardi Grogs. Mardi Grogs is the pool bar that offers specialty drinks, wine, sangria and beer. You can sit around the bar enjoying your drink while watching TV or get your drink to go and take a stroll around the beautiful grounds.

Other Recreation

Besides the pool there are so many other activities you can do here! Much like Port Orleans Riverside you can rent bikes, surrey bikes and even take a horse-drawn carriage ride. You can also rent pedal boats, pontoon boats, canopy boats, and kayaks. Don’t forget the cane pole fishing too! There should be a kiosk where you can get rental information. If you don’t see a kiosk then just head to the front desk and they will be happy to help you!

For nighttime entertainment, your family can enjoy movies under the stars or even sit around a campfire. Movies under the stars is shown on the French Quarter green. With a huge screen and seats or towels provided, it’s a great ending to your busy day! If a campfire is more your family’s speed, then make sure you catch this fun activity around sundown to roast marshmallows!

Dining

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory Food Court is your quick service option at Port Orleans French Quarter.

• For breakfast you will find a variety of pancakes, eggs, croissant sandwich, biscuits, breakfast meats and an assortment of danishes, muffins and beignets. Our tip is to get the beignets. You can’t find them anywhere else on property.
• For lunch, the food court has four stations; the Grill Shop offers a variety of burgers, the Pizza & Pasta Shop offers Create-Your-Own Pasta and pizzas, the Po’boy Shop offers po’boys, gumbo and salads.
• For Dinner, the Grill Shop, Pizza & Pasta Shop and Po’boy Shop offers the same menu as lunch. Added for dinner is the Carving Shop. Here you will find southern classics like Barbeque Ribs, Fried Chicken and Prime Rib.

Your meal wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Bakery for desserts! From gelato, cookies and mini-pies to bread pudding, pecan praline and Mardi Gras King Cake. Even though these all are spectacular, make sure you don’t leave without getting an order of beignets! The dining plans are accepted at the food court.

If you aren’t up to a full meal and want to go a little lighter, then head to Scat Cat’s Club. Here you have the options of fritters, flatbreads, chips & dip and wings. You can also have a specialty drink with your meal! All of this while enjoying some live music!Boat to Disney Springs

I just can’t leave out the boat ride to Disney Springs! Honestly, when my family stays at Riverside or French Quarter is the only time we go to Disney Springs. The boat ride is so nice, relaxing and just all around peaceful.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort: A Disney World Resort

If you are looking for a resort on Disney World property that is economical and great for a larger family, then Caribbean Beach Resort may just be the place for you! This resort is considered a moderate resort and it is located in the Epcot Resort area. It is very convenient to all of the magic and has plenty of things for your family to do right there on resort property. So why not take advantage and stay away from the parks for a day and relax in this Caribbean style beach resort. Your family can “island hop” right there on Disney Property!

Accommodations and Room Types

One of the great things about this resort is that it is one of the few economical rooms that will accommodate five people. Equipped with a murphy bed, the fifth person will be sleeping in style right under Mickey and Pluto. My son thought he was a rock-star and was wanting to come back to the room so he could slumber with two of his favorite characters! This resort has the options of standard and preferred rooms. Caribbean Beach Resort is most well known for their pirate rooms, which would make any pirate or princess happy.

One thing to keep in mind about this resort is that it does not have any elevators so make sure to ask for a preferred bottom floor room. This is especially important if you do not need to walk the flight of stairs every time you come back to your room. Also you will be walking a little to bring your bags to your room. Although there is an area for you to park when unloading and loading your car, you may still have to walk a bit.

This resort is very spacious and spread out, so you will be walking around a bit. Keep that in mind when booking this resort. You have the option of walking or driving to the commons area where you can find food and stores.

All rooms are equipped with a coffee maker, fridge and a hairdryer for convenience.

Transportation

This resort does have bus transportation. One thing to keep in mind when using the resort bus transportation is that it does make several stops inside of the resort property while picking up and dropping off. All buses goes straight to the park specified there after. You will not be sharing buses with any other resort.

Dining Options

This resort has a few places you can get beverages as well as sit-down and quick service meals. These are located in Centertown at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.

Table Service

• Shutters at Old Port Royale

And of course, when all else fails you always have good ole Pizza delivery, it never fails!

Recreation

This resort has so much to do you can save a a day’s worth of park tickets and hang out on this resort property for sure.

Let’s start with pools….

Caribbean Beach Resort has several pools you can choose from and they all deliver some amazing days of fun in the sun. Not to mention the many other activities they have, such as campfire activities, Movies Under the Stars, Pirate Adventure Cruises, Bike and Surrey Bike Rentals, Fishing, Volleyball, jogging trails and a playground. This place is equipped for fun!

Port Orleans Riverside: A Disney World Resort Review

Everything moves at a slower pace and is more relaxed in the South; this resort is proof of that! This resort truly makes you feel as if you are on vacation. From relaxing walks to horse-drawn carriage rides to southern cuisine, Port Orleans Riverside will welcome you to sit a spell and relax!

Port Orleans Riverside is one of the largest resorts on Disney World property. Boasting large plantation style buildings in Magnolia Bend and tons of southern charm in Alligator Bayou, you will feel right at home! This resort is in the moderate category, meaning you will have queen size beds, a coffee maker and a few other amenities. All rooms will have queen size beds, unless a king is requested. The categories for most rooms are: standard, garden view, pool view, preferred room, river view and king. Accessible rooms are also available.

Accommodations

Alligator Bayou

This section houses all of the “preferred rooms” for Port Orleans Riverside.  Alligator Bayou buildings (the preferred locations) are located closest to the main building and the South Depot bus stop (buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27). Preferred simply means you are guaranteed a closer room to the main building and bus stop.

***Please note there are NO ELEVATORS in any of the preferred buildings, so if mobility is an issue, request a ground floor room. We paid extra for the preferred room and were very happy with it, but did NOT know there were no elevators. Lugging everything up and down a flight of stairs wasn’t fun.

Magnolia Bend

In the Magnolia Bend section, you will find large plantation style buildings with large columns and perfectly manicured lawns.

Magnolia Bend is where you will find the Royal Guest rooms. This is definitely where “royalty” needs to be! With rooms fit for princes or princesses, you will feel as if you are in a Disney movie!! These rooms boasts lots of “Disney movie” charm from greats such as “The Princess and the Frog“. There are four room categories in this section: standard view, river view, garden view and pool view.

Nice Surprises

One nice surprise is that most rooms will accommodate up to five people in one room, with a murphy style pull down bed! Please note that these are not available in the Royal Guest rooms. As you can see, we used ours for a luggage rack!

Sassagoula Steamboat Company (Main building)

Sassagoula Steamboat Company is where you will find everything you need while visiting Disney World. This is the main building of Port Orleans Riverside that houses the front desk (check-in), dining, shopping and tons of fun!

Supper

After spending a day in the parks, you will be ready to come “home” to Port Orleans Riverside and have some “supper”. You will find several tasty options available! Of course, Riverside Mill food court has your quick service dining options available with favorites such as a bakery, grilled items, pizza & pasta, specialties, salads and even a carving station! You will also find some tasty “cajun” dishes that can only be found here at Port Orleans Riverside! Grab a “Swamp Burger” or a “Shrimp Salad Po’ Boy”!

Maybe you want to slow things down even more. If that’s the case, then Boatwright’s Dining Hall is where you want to be. This sit down/table service restaurant has some great “fixin’s”. My personal favorite? Well, the Voodoo Chicken (Crispy-battered Chicken Breast and Fluffy Golden Waffles topped with Maple-Bacon Sauce), of course! How could you go wrong with that? Also available is the down home favorite of Shrimp N’ Grits. Reservations are available and are highly recommended, although we just walked right up and were seated.

Splashin’ Around

With six pools to splash around in, you will definitely stay cool! Come on down to the “swimmin’ hole” at Ol’ Man Island. This is where all of the action is! This is conveniently located in the middle of the resort, for all to enjoy. Also nearby is a whirlpool tub and Muddy Rivers pool bar, for even more relaxation and fun. One of the best things about this “swimmin’ hole” is the water slide!!

There are five more pools located around the resort. Three are in Alligator Bayou, while the other two are in Magnolia Bend. These are considered the “quiet pools“, so that means no jumping and no hollerin’, ya hear!

Laundry facilities are located at each of the “quiet pools” around the resort.  Find out more about laundry at Disney right here: LAUNDRY AT DISNEY.

Medicine Show Arcade

This super fun arcade area will keep your kiddos busy! With state of the art games, they will love spending some time (and your money) here!

Shopping

Fulton’s General Store has everything you need for your magical vacation! From souvenirs to snacks to things you forgot to bring!

Extra Fun

Port Orleans Riverside is one of the liveliest resorts around Disney World. If you are looking for some relaxing fun, you may want to check out the horse drawn carriage rides, rent a bicycle or just drift down to Disney Springs along the water. If you are needing more “adult” fun, then you won’t want to miss out on the happenings at the River Roost Lounge with “Yee-Ha” Bob!

Movies under the stars and a campfire is also available most evenings at Ol’ Man Island.

Transportation to Parks and Disney Springs

Since Port Orleans Riverside is such a large resort, there are several internal bus stops around the resort. These buses will take you to and from the parks. Also available is a great water taxi that will get you to and from Disney Springs with a scenic and relaxing view!

Did ‘ya Know?

Did you know that Port Orleans French Quarter is right next door. You are more than welcome to mosey over and hang out-Mardi Gras style! (No bead throwing required!).
