Disney World Tips and Tricks

There are some things you will want to bring with you on your trip so you don’t have to buy them while you’re there. That’s not to say they won’t be available for purchase if you forget, but it will save you time and money just having them on hand in case the need arises.

Remember to PACK these items:

Power Bank

All of your plans are stored on My Disney Experience. This includes your ability to make changes to any existing reservations and add or modify Fast Pass+ reservations once you are in the park itself. Phones also act for many now as their primary picture taking device. With all of that, your phone battery will lose juice…fast. Bringing your own power bank to charge up when your phone begins to lose life will ensure you don’t have to purchase one in the parks and you have access to your plans when you need them! Also available inside all parks and some resorts: PORTABLE CHARGERS

Poncho or Rain Jacket

Do yourself a favor and throw a set of ponchos or lightweight rain jackets into your park bag. Regardless of the time of year, you never know when it may rain in Central Florida and you do not want to have to run around trying to find ponchos once it starts to come down.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is another must that you will want easy access to. There is nothing worse than getting too much sun on day one and being uncomfortable for the rest of your vacation!

Hat/Gloves/Sweatshirt

I know it may sound crazy but depending on the time of year, mornings and evenings in the parks can be chilly. I have seen them wheel out the impromptu cart filled with clothing and accessories for colder weather and you probably do not want to shell out 50 plus dollars on a sweatshirt if you didn’t budget or plan for it. 

A list of your reservations (outside of My Disney Experience)

The My Disney Experience App is a great tool and has improved exponentially since they debuted it years ago. It relies on internet service though so having a streamlined experience on it doesn’t always happen. If you’re working with an Authorized Disney Travel Planner like one of our Walt Express Travel agents, chances are you will have an itinerary with all of your plans listed elsewhere outside of My Disney Experience.

If not, or you are Type A (like me!) either screen grab your plans in My Disney Experience or make your own list organized by day so you have easy access in case MDE goes down. It happens! If it does happen, do not stress, the cast members are amazing and want to help but it is always good to have back up!

Pack Wisely

If you are flying to Disney World and taking the awesome Magical Express from the airport to your home resort heed this advice: pack anything you need immediate access to (even swimsuit or change of clothes) in your carry on bag. Your checked bags will automatically be transported to your hotel and it sometimes can take a couple of hours for them to arrive. If you were planning on heading straight to the parks or spending the afternoon at the resort pool, you will want those items and will be very bummed if you have to alter your plans to wait on your luggage to arrive!

Disney almost has its own language made up of acronyms and nicknames that regulars and those in the Disney community toss around online and in person to communicate about the parks and happenings around the resort. Here is a short list of some of popular ones to keep you in the know while on property. By the end of your trip you will be using them like a pro!

AP: Annual Pass

FP or FP+ : Fastpass and Fastpass+

MDE: My Disney Experience

EMH: Extra Magic Hours

DHS: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

TTC: Ticket and Transportation Center

Understand Disney Transportation

Before you are heading out of your hotel room door have a plan on how you are getting from point A to point B. It can be very discouraging and stressful to want to get somewhere only to realize you were incorrect in thinking the monorail went somewhere direct and it will now take twice as long than you originally anticipated. Leave at least 60 minutes to get to the parks and 90 minutes when going resort to resort, especially for any dining reservations to make sure you don’t miss out on anything you want to experience. Disney transportation is great, but you need to have a plan!
