You Must Do The Jingle Cruise

The Jingle Cruise is all about the homesick skippers of the Jungle Cruise. To make everything feel more like home, the skippers have decorated the queue with items that have been mailed to them. Some of the items they have even made themselves. Basically, the Jingle Cruise is just like the Jungle Cruise, just with some holiday cheer added. The scenes throughout the adventure will have some festive decorations to help the skippers celebrate the season. You will also notice while on your “trip” that the skippers have added some holiday jokes to lighten the spirit a little more.

Not only are the scenes and the queue transformed, but so are the boats! Make sure you pay close attention to the names of the individual boats because the skippers have also changed them up a bit. Those skippers know exactly how to create the perfect holiday! Just a few examples; Sankuru Sadie becomes Sleigh Ride Sadie, Congo Connie becomes Candy Cane Connie, Mongala Millie becomes Mistletoe Millie and Amazon Annie becomes Eggnog Annie, just to name a few!

Height Requirement

Same as the Jungle Cruise, there is not a height requirement for Jingle Cruise. No matter what age, or height, everyone in your party will be able to enjoy this attraction. Such a great family fun attraction that you definitely need to add to your list. Have you really done the holidays in Disney World if you haven’t done the JINGLE CRUISE at least once?

Get ready to see the BACKSIDE OF WATER, holiday edition!! So much fun!

Accessibility and Other Information

• You may remain in your wheelchair or ECV to ride Jingle Cruise.
• Assistive Listening and Language Translation devices are available upon request. Sign Language services are also available upon request.
• Social distancing is in full effect and guidelines will be followed.
• Don’t forget your face mask! This will be strictly enforced.

Tips

• FastPass+ is offered for Jingle Cruise. Fast passes are not available as of right now.
• Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by someone 14 years or older.
• Jingle Cruise runs from early November to early January.
• Bring your sense of humor, the cornier the better!

Disney World Announces Plans

We have been waiting on this moment since the closure was announced, back in March! Yes, we are THAT serious about our love for Disney World. Here are all of the details that have been released so far. As more details are released, we will update this blog.

On May 27, 2020, Disney World presented it’s plan for a phased (and very limited) reopening. The plan was voted on and approved and currently waiting on the governor to give final approval for the plan. Here is what we know as of right now.

• Face masks will be required and temperature checks will also be a new normal for awhile.
• Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will reopen on July 11, 2020.
• Hollywood Studios and Epcot will reopen on July 15, 2020.
• Limited guest capacity for the parks, once they are reopened. Including possibly a reservation system in place, meaning you will need a reservation to enter the parks.
• NO fireworks shows, meet and greets or parades during the phased reopening. We are not sure when these “extras” will be back for us to enjoy. We will definitely keep you posted!

Per Disney Parks

Existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders will be able to make reservation requests in phases before new tickets are sold; we’ll be reaching out to these guests soon to provide additional details.

Resort Information

• DVC resorts and Fort Wilderness Campgrounds will reopen on June 22

We are sure there will be more stipulations and rules as things become more clear with this reopening process.

Memory Maker

If you opted for Disney’s Memory Maker, pictures taken during your girl’s transformation can be added to your account.  Also with Memory Maker, you can take your daughter over to Castle Couture and have a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Studio photo session.  There is no extra cost to have these pictures taken and added to your account.

You also have your choice between three different hairstyles:

1. Fairytale Princess Hairstyle
2. Disney Diva Hairstyle
3. Color Star Hairstyle

Locations

There are two BBB locations. One in Disney Springs and one located in Cinderella’s Castle. Both are equally fun, but as you can imagine, BBB in Cinderella’s Castle fills up faster, so make sure you make your reservations plenty of time in advance.

Quick Tip: Some parents will opt for BBB in Cinderella’s Castle so their child can enjoy one of the Christmas or Halloween parties in Magic Kingdom afterwards. If you can time it just right, it would be a memory your child would not forget.

Reservations

Reservations are strongly recommended at either location and often fill up quickly. Your Travel Consultant can begin making reservations 180 days prior to your vacation by calling(407) WDW-STYLE or (407) 939-7895.  When you book your reservation, you will provide the date you want to visit and which location, the cast member assisting you will let you know the times that are available.  You will be required to have a credit card on file for your reservation and if you do not show up or cancel within 24 hours, a $10 fee will be charged to your card on file.

What To Expect

You should arrive about 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.

As soon as you walk into BBB, there is a scroll that’s inscribed with an invitation for a ball to be held in your honor!

It can get loud inside of BBB, so listen very carefully to what your Fairy Godmother-in-Training is telling you during your time together.  During each step of the makeover process your Fairy Godmother-in-Training will intertwine a story featuring a Disney Princess (and even a villain).

No other feeling compares to when your beautiful princess gets spun around and sees her reflection in the mirror for the first time. The awe in their eyes says it all!.

Bring your own dress and accessories from home:

There are several packages to choose from, like we said above, but if you settle on The Crown package you could bring your own dress, shoes and princess tiara from home and let her change into everything right before you go to the boutique. You would be none the wiser and your wallet will thank you!

Tips

• Assorted princess accessories and T-shirts are also available for purchase.
• The amount of time needed for this magical transformation is 30-90 minutes, depending on the package and which of three hairstyle choices is selected. Do not plan any fast pass + or dining reservations for at least an hour after your reservation time. Appointments typically take approximately 30 minutes depending on the hair style that your princess chooses, but based off of our past experiences, be prepared to wait past your appointment time.

Reader Excitement

• One reader said: One thing I noticed about the Fairytale Princess hairstyle is that it took a lot less time than the Disney Diva hairstyle. So, if you have a jam-packed day, you might want to choose the Fairytale Princess hairstyle.
• Another reader said: Another thing that I noticed is that the BBB location at Magic Kingdom seems smaller and appears overbooked, but the atmosphere is superior to the location at Disney Springs.
• Kristi bought the Courtyard Package and was pleasantly surprised that her daughter got to keep all the unused nail polish and makeup. That was an unexpected perk for them! She also got a little cinch bag and a sash! Perfect for dress-up play at home too! She thought it was very reasonably priced, especially for all the extras she got to take home.

Finding the Best Quick Service

If you do your research, you will discover that eating during a Disney World vacation is one of the best parts of the vacation. There is so much variety and so many places to choose, plus you don’t have to cook or clean. With all of the choices available, you might find yourself a little overwhelmed, but don’t worry. Walt Express has you covered! We have a new series to give you our top picks in each park, plus Disney Springs and the resorts.

Top 6 Quick Service Restaurants in Disney’s Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom has some really unique quick service choices. From the very ornate to the super silly, they have something for everyone. Here are some of our favorites, in no particular order:

Be Our Guest

A lot of people don’t realize it, but Be Our Guest is actually a quick service restaurant for breakfast and lunch. The food is inspired by French cuisine, but don’t be afraid. There are plenty of options that will have you drooling. I love the pastries that come with the breakfast and I always order the croissant doughnut which is covered in banana-caramel sauce and chocolate ganache. For a more savory breakfast, I choose the assorted cured meats and cheese. For lunch, it’s braised pork (Coq Au Vin Style), the Croque Monsieur with Pommes Frites (french fries!) or the Carved Roast Beef Sandwich (oh that horseradish blue cheese!!!) with Pommes Frites. The French Onion Soup is always a great choice too if you need a lighter choice.

The only downside to dining at Be Our Guest for breakfast or lunch is the Beast from Beauty and the Beast only meets at dinner time, so you won’t be seeing him unless you make a dinner reservation. Sleepy Hollow Inn

Sleepy Hollow has the BEST waffle sandwiches (just note those aren’t on the Disney Dining Plan). They also have funnel cakes, baked potatoes, and pretzel dogs. When it isn’t hot out, we really enjoy sitting at one of the small tables to the side, which has a view of the castle. This area is also conveniently located near the hub, which makes it easy to get to any part of the park when you are done. You can find the menu and current pricing HERE.

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

If you love Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food, you will love Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. They have tons of choices that most families will enjoy. From fajita platters to Beef Nachos, it’s hard to go wrong here if you frequent the Mexican restaurants at home. We love this place because they have Queso Dip (my youngest son is OBSESSED) and a toppings bar. We also like it because it’s a nice change of pace from burgers and Smucker’s Uncrustables (but those are also on the menu). You can see the full menu HERE.

Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe

Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland is an out of this world treat for quick service. My family loves the variety of offerings here. They have BBQ pork sandwiches, cheeseburgers, greek salads with chicken, and even 1/2 rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. Did I mention that they also have a toppings bar? Load that sandwich up with grilled onions, peppers, tomatoes, and so much more. Sadly, they no longer have the cheese sauce on the toppings bar, but you can order a cup of cheese dip to help drown your sorrows. Find the full menu HERE.

Columbia Harbour House

Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square is a really nice change of pace. This quick service location offers up fried shrimp, lobster rolls, soup, and much more. To be completely honest though, I love this one because they have an upstairs seating area that tends to be a bit less crowded, so we let the boys get up and walk around a bit if we have a section to ourselves. Did I mention this place is nice and cool and has TONS of seating? So go ahead, pull up a chair and enjoy the food and the cool air. You can take a gander at the menu HERE.

Casey’s Corner

If you love hotdogs, this is the place to be. They also have corn dog nuggets that are pretty hard to beat. Don’t forget that you can get some yummy cracker jacks for a snack credit, too! Talk about taking you back in time. However, my favorite part about this place is that it’s located on Main Street AND it has an air conditioned seating area. There is also a nice area outside where you can enjoy the shade and the view of the castle. You can learn all about the delicious ballpark inspired food HERE. Tips and Notes About Quick Service Restaurants

• Quick service restaurants all have one thing in common, you order your food at a counter or kiosk and then you find a seat and wait for your food.
• Some quick service options will deliver the food to your table, while others will require that someone retrieve the food.
• If you are using a Disney Dining Plan, you may order one entree and one non alcoholic drink in a standard cup. You may not order a souvenir cup with your credit.
• If you are using a Disney Dining Plan, you can use a snack credit to purchase a dessert.
• Quick Service meal credits are not separated into adult and child credits like they are for table service. That means, if your 3-9 year old would like an adult portion, you can order it!

Location & Route

Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade runs daily at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. It begins at 3pm but this time is subject to change. It’s a good idea to get a Times Guide as you enter Magic Kingdom.

The Festival of Fantasy Parade begins in Frontierland near Splash Mountain. It then makes its way through Liberty Square and to the hub at Cinderella Castle. From there, the parade heads down Main Street U.S.A., around in front of the Walt Disney World Railroad train station and exits near the Fire Station.

The Floats

It is difficult to even describe the elaborate detail in each float. This parade is full of color and life! From the decorated costumes of the parade performers to the floats decorated to depict scenes from Disney favorites, you are sure to love each and every detail. The procession of floats includes a garden of Princesses, Tangled and The Little Mermaid. Also represented are floats for Peter Pan and Brave and a few other surprises.

Favorite Characters

This parade features many characters from your favorite Disney movies! You can expect to see:

• Cinderella
• Belle
• Tiana
• Elsa and Anna
• Ariel and Sebastian
• Peter and Wendy from Peter Pan
• Captain Hook
• Smee
• Tick-Tock the Crocodile
• Merida and Her “Bear” Brothers

Parade Dining Packages

If sitting to save your spot for 30 minutes before parade time doesn’t sound fun to you, you are able to book a Festival of Fantasy Parade Dining Package that will get you VIP viewing.

Parade dining packages are available at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant. Tony’s Town Square is similar to the restaurant from Lady and the Tramp. Book a lunch here and enjoy delicious Italian cuisine. Then in the afternoon, enjoy VIP viewing of the Festival of Fantasy Parade.

Parents with Small Children

Maleficent is depicted in the form of a fire-breathing dragon. She is large, metal and can definitely be scary for small children. She also breathes fire several times throughout the parade route.

Along with Maleficent, you will also find thorny stilt walkers and raven performers. These too can be frighten children.

• There is only one showing of the Festival of Fantasy Parade.
• The Festival of Fantasy Parade runs daily at Magic Kingdom at 3pm.
• Showtimes are subject to change, so make sure to grab a Times Guide at the entrance of Magic Kingdom.
• The Festival of Fantasy Parade is an outdoor parade and is subject to cancellation due to weather.
• If you want a front row seat, you will need to grab your spot at least 30 minutes before parade time.
• The parade lasts about 30 minutes.
• If you are on the front row, make sure you sit on the curb so people are able to stand behind you and see the parade.

Breaking News: Nighttime Spectacular Happily Ever After debuts in Magic Kingdom

Beginning on May 12, 2017, Disney’s Magic Kingdom will debut their brand new nighttime spectacular show: HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Several new characters will join in inspiring you to achieve your dreams and find your “happily ever after”. This looks to be a great new show!

“Happily Ever After” will take guests on an amazing journey each night, telling a story using fireworks, pyrotechnics, original animation, projection mapping and an original score

“Happily Ever After,” a new nighttime spectacular that will combine the magic of Disney storytelling, beloved Disney characters, fireworks and so much more, will debut at Magic Kingdom Park on May 12, 2017.

The spectacular will inspire guests to seek out and find their own “Happily Ever After” by showcasing some of the greatest adventures Disney characters have taken to achieve their dreams. The show will feature the latest fireworks and pyrotechnics and original animation, plus a heart-tugging original score. And thanks to the inclusion of state-of-the-art projection mapping technology, more Disney characters than ever before will be featured in the show, including moments from “Moana,” “Brave,” “Big Hero 6,” “Zootopia,” “The Princess & The Frog,” “Aladdin” and many others.

Breaking News: Tiana’s Riverboat Party and Ice Cream Social

I hope you are checking Walt Express often for all of your up to the minute Breaking News! Disney World has been super busy this week announcing tons of magical news!

Join Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen in the Magic Kingdom for some good, “ole-fashioned” fun. This sweet Prince and Princess are hosting an “ice cream social” and you are invited!  Your royal hosts’ will meet you on the dock and there you will dine on nothing but the sweetest of sweets! Ice cream and toppings, drinks, snacks, and more will ALL be included! After your sweet tooth is satisfied, you will be swept away on The Liberty Square Riverboat for a VIP viewing of The Festival of Fantasy Parade! Of course, Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana will join you for an unforgettable time!

Special Event

This is a special event, meaning there is an additional charge. Prices are $49 per adult and $29 for children under the age of 9. This will include all taxes and gratuities.

Video: Glass Blowing at Crystal Arts on Main Street USA

My family and I are always trying to find new things to do at Disney World. It’s the times we run into something new by accident that is the most fun. That is what happened when we did just that the day we walked into a little shop about half way down Main Street USA called Crystal Arts. 

What to Expect

This shop has two special experiences that can only happen at Disney. I mean they DO think of everything!

In front,the shop displays beautiful crystal pieces styled to remind you of your favorite Disney memories. And right in the middle of all of the action you just might catch someone showing off their talents, just like this guy here. Take a few minutes out of the hustle and bustle of your day and take this all in. It is absolutely beautiful to see them work their magic on each and every creation. This is not technically a show, so you need to catch them showing off their skills at the right time, but it is absolutely worth it when you do! 

In the back of this beautiful shop is a whole other world. There is actually a functional glass blowing studio! The best part about this show is that it has scheduled times, so you can plan this incredible show into your day. You can usually get the glassblower’s schedule from any of the cast members so that you can come back to catch the “show.”  Even if he’s not there when you are, check out the fascinating glass blowing tools on the wall as well as the gorgeous artwork he’s in the midst of creating.

 Main Street Extras

There are so many things that can entertain all of your senses walking down Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom. From the characters in Town Square, the Main Street Trolley that makes it’s way down Main Street USA, the Dapper Dans Barber Shop Quartet, The Pianist at Casey’s Corner, The Move It! Shake It! Dance and Play It! Street Party!, Mickey Mouse at Main Street Theatre, Main Street Confectionery or the Main Street Philharmonic, you will not be disappointed.

Select Days and Hours

To get straight to the breaking news, it appears Stitch’s Great Escape!, in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, is going to a seasonal operating schedule beginning next month. It will be closing October 1 and reopening November 19 just in time for the busy Thanksgiving holiday week. It will close again on November 27 until reopening on December 17. The attraction will then stay open through the Christmas and New Year week.

Not only is Stitch’s Great Escape! cutting back to select days, it’s operating hours are also changing. On the days it will be open to guests, the new hours it will be running are from 10am until 8pm.

Rumors

There have been rumors floating around for quite some time that Stitch’s Great Escape! will be reimagined into a Wreck It Ralph attraction. With this new, decreased operating schedule, those rumors might just have some merit to them. Especially with no information of when or if it will stay open past the New Year’s holiday.

The Worst Ride in all of Walt Disney World?

Stitch’s Great Escape! has been deemed by many as “the worst ride in all of Walt Disney World”. I’ll be totally up front and honest here, I’ve never actually experienced Stitch’s Great Escape! I have researched it and spoken with friends and have always found and heard horrible reviews. So we at Walt Express really hope this new operating schedule and reduced hours is the beginning of the end of Stitch’s Great Escape!

5 WAYS To Tell If You Are a PIRATE!

Is a Pirate’s Life for YOU?

Avast, me hearties! Do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and face almost certain death? Any man who falls behind, is left behind. Can you recite the Pirate’s Oath? Were you born to sail the seas? Do you find yourself wanting to make those who irritate you “walk the plank”?

Well, Shiver me Timbers, YOU just might be a PIRATE!

• Do you constantly WISH that you could make people walk the plank and be forever lost to Davy Jones’ locker? Yes, you have this power, but do you act on it? If so, you are one step closer to becoming a pirate, me hearties!
• Are you DRINKING on the job? (OK, don’t answer that question here where your answers may be held against you). If you find yourself drinking anything other than water, tea, soft drinks, etc. while working, it is very possible that you are well on your way to a pirate’s life-and probably about to be out of a job. So, yes, that would work if you’re aiming for a pirate’s life! Although, RUM is an acceptable form of nourishment, according to Captain Jack Sparrow. So, please use your own judgment in this situation.
• Do you constantly daydream of blue-green waters, no land in sight, surrounded by water at all times? Just you and a boat, love?
• Do you have the budget of a beggar but KNOW you were born for treasures? Have you ever “hornswaggled” anyone? Then yes, you quite possibly are a pirate, my friend!
• Have you have ridden the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom several times in a row, each time yelling “yo-ho, yo-ho”. Extra points if you ask someone “why is the rum always gone?”. (I refuse to divulge exactly how many times “several” are).

How did you fare, Mate?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, you possibly might need to find a boat, get a crew and start answering to Captain!  Don’t forget that hat, either! You could always just take a trip to Walt Disney World and hang out in Adventureland. I have spotted several barrels of rum AND the great Captain Jack, himself! What could be better? Grab the Jolly Roger and let’s go to Tortuga!
