One of my MOST favorite things to do at Walt Disney World, besides ride amazing rides is EAT and one of my most favorite places to eat is 50’s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios. Not only do you get to enjoy a FABULOUS meal but you get to go back in time to a period when sitting around the dinner table with your loved ones was the highlight of your day.

Love at First Sight

The moment you walk through the door you are instantly transformed back to an era when black and white TV was all the rage and ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ was must see TV. Once you check in with your host or hostess you will be invited to wait in The Tune-In Lounge for your “cousin” to call you and your party to your table. While in the lounge, you can enjoy a drink from Dad’s Liquor Cabinet, like Grandma’s Picnic Punch or Dad’s Electric Lemonade, complete with a glow in the dark ice-cube. You can also enjoy clips from classic TV shows from the decade on the various televisions around the room. And feel free to walk around and explore all the awesome 1950’s decor.

50's Prime Time Cafe: A Disney World Dining ReviewOnce your “cousin” has called your party to your table, then the real fun begins! You will find yourself seated at a dinner table from days of yesteryear, where you’d better not put your elbows on the table or dare to take your modern cell phone out, lest you find yourself standing in the corner! (Trust me…I know this from experience!)

When my kiddos and I were there last summer, our FANTABULOUS waiter, not only advised us on what to order but he entertained us and our fellow patrons as well. He not only sang “Let it Go” with my daughter but he made sure to introduce us to everyone at the tables around us and warned us we’d better clean our plates and eat our veggies! As-a-matter-of-fact, he tried to do the old airplane trick on my little girl to get her to eat her green beans! (FYI…it didn’t work.)

50's Prime Time Cafe: A Disney World Dining ReviewThe Food

And speaking of the food, you will be hard pressed to find better fried chicken on all of WDW property than Aunt Liz’s Golden Fried Chicken. I’m from the south and let me tell you…I know good chicken! I was so conflicted on what to order from the menu that I opted for the sampling of Mom’s Favorite Recipes. It had the aforementioned chicken as well as a portion of Mom’s Old Fashioned Pot Roast and Cousin Ann’s Traditional Meatloaf. The pot roast literally melted in my mouth. So much so that my 8-year-old foodie in training stole half of it.

50's Prime Time Cafe: A Disney World Dining ReviewMake sure to save room after dinner for the awesome desserts! We shared Mom’s Favorite Chocolate-Peanut Butter Layer Cake, which was GREAT. I’ve heard lots of people rave about their milkshakes, especially the Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake. We just didn’t have the room left in our bellies!

I would advise anyone planning a trip to Walt Disney World to make time in their schedule to visit 50’s Prime Time and enjoy not only the great food but the entertainment as well. We LOVED our experience there, so much so that my son asked if we could eat there again the next day. I think he just got a big kick out of seeing his sister be paraded around the room and called a “naughty, naughty princess” to the other diners and then stand in the corner for putting her feet on the furniture!

50's Prime Time Cafe: A Disney World Dining ReviewExtra Tip

As a side note, if you would prefer to just eat and not partake of the experience then just make sure to tell your Travel Agent to make a note when they make your reservation. Or mention it to the host when you check in. I have one child that really wanted to joke around with the staff and one who is shy and did not. They were great about “picking” on the one while leaving the other alone.

After our visit, 50’s has become a MUST do whenever we go to Hollywood Studios and I’ll just bet, once you taste the food, enjoy the experience and take a walk down memory lane, it will be a must-do for you as well.
