Check out how magical celebrating your birthday at Disney World can be by watching the Video: Celebrating Your Birthday in Style at Disney World.

Birthdays are always such an exciting time, especially for children. Therefore, we wanted to make our daughter’s 5th birthday extra special. We couldn’t think of a more magical place to be than at Walt Disney World Resort. I began planning our impromptu trip and decided to let our daughter help, since after all, it was her birthday. She only made two requests; spending her birthday at Magic Kingdom and eating at Chef Mickey’s. Going to Magic Kingdom was no problem, however the reservation at Chef Mickey’s was proving to be a little difficult since our trip was within 180 days. I was determined that we eat at Chef Mickey’s and my persistence paid off. As a result, I was able to snatch a 9pm reservation.

I decided to do some research on celebrating at Disney World. One thing that kept showing up in my searches was customizable cakes. I thought it would be great to order a cake to have delivered to us at Chef Mickey’s. I called the cake hotline and started the process. They were easy to work with and made everything really simple. I was able to email with the chef that would be creating her cake and send him pictures of what I liked. Everything was set!

We always watch the day parade (The Festival of Fantasy Parade) at Magic Kingdom. The parade started and our daughter’s favorite part was headed our way, the princesses! On the first princess float, Fairy Godmother was high on top. As the float went by, she was looking down at our daughter and said “Happy Birthday Brooke”. If you have attended a parade at Disney World, you know the floats are massive, and on some, the characters are high above the guests so my husband and I were completely amazed. How was she able to see that little button and even read her name on it? The next float was Ariel and Eric. As it passed, Ariel waved to our daughter and said “Happy Birthday Brooke”. Again, we were in awe of what had happened. I still get chills to this day when I think about it.

I couldn’t have been more wrong because each time we met a character, it truly took my breath away, especially Belle. Meeting Belle is always magical, but it felt extra magical to see our daughter meet with her on her birthday. Belle took her by the hand and led her to the seat. She spent a lot of time talking with her and oh how I would love to know the conversation they had. Belle wrote a special birthday greeting in her autograph book and gave her such a sweet hug. It is something we will forever treasure.

A Birthday Celebration at Chef Mickey’s

It was finally time for our celebration at Chef Mickey’s. We were seated, began to eat and meet characters as they came to our table. Early in our meal, our waitress started toward our table with the cake. At that time, I didn’t understand why she was bringing it so early. However, she actually timed it perfectly because immediately after, Minnie Mouse visited our table. It was ideal because the cake was all Minnie! The icing was light pink, there were purple flowers and it had a beautiful, hand painted chocolate Minnie on top. Our daughter was amazed by the cake. She may have even become a little teary eyed, I know I did. We totally forgot about dinner and cut the cake. The cake, it was as delicious as it was beautiful! I’m sure this is a birthday our daughter will never forget.

That whole day is a testament to what Disney truly does best, details. Disney is an expert in details. It is always hard for me to believe how you can be in a theme park with thousands of other people, but Disney can make you feel like you are the only family there. I am amazed every single trip by this, but on this particular trip, I was completely blown away. Every Cast Member went out of their way when they saw our daughter’s birthday button.

Tips for Getting the Most of Your Celebration

If you aren’t familiar with celebrating an occasion at Disney World, they have a button for everything you could possibly celebrate; from 1st Visit, Happy Birthday, Family Reunion, Just Engaged, Just Married, Happy Anniversary to simply I’m Celebrating, and they are absolutely free. You can request a button from Guest Relations at any of the theme parks or from the Cast Member when you are checking in to your hotel. Always let the Cast Member, or your travel planner, know if you are celebrating an occasion when you make your package and dining reservations. You might get a little extra pixie dust!

Aside from celebration buttons, there are many extras you can add-on to your package when celebrating at Disney World: In-Room Celebrations are gift packages you can purchase that will be set up in your room at your hotel awaiting your arrival; purchase Memory Maker to make sure all of your celebratory pictures are captured with everyone in them; order specialty cakes that are customizable and available at most table service restaurants (order in advance); Celebrate Today! cakes are cakes you can order upon arrival at most table service restaurants (no advance ordering required). Disney makes it so easy to celebrate any life event!
