Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Grand Opening at Epcot

The grand opening of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT is set for October 1 of this year! That date also marks exactly 50 years since Disney World officially opened for the first time. Chef Remy will help Disney World kick off “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in Parisian style. Isn’t that cool? Read more about the details of this amazing attraction in Epcot! We are super excited about it, but October seems SO far away! We are looking forward to it for sure! How about you?

Disney MagicMobile Service

With the eventual phase out of MagicBands, Disney World is rolling out a new service, Disney MagicMobile Service. 

Launching in phases starting later this year, Disney MagicMobile service is a convenient and contactless way to access MagicBand features like theme park entry through the power of your iPhone, Apple Watch or other smart device. Guests will be able to create a Disney MagicMobile pass through the My Disney Experience app and add it to their smart device’s digital wallet.

Disneyland Reopening

Well, we could see our original favorite park, the one Walt loved so much, come to life in late April. This news did not come without much excitement. Celebrating the Release of ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’

To celebrate the release of ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’, Disney World will have several fun things for you to enjoy and to introduce you to these great characters. At Animal Kingdom guests can take a photo with a 40-ton sand sculpture at Discovery Island Stage, learn to draw new characters at The Animation Experience at Conservation Station or enjoy several new tasty treats, all inspired by the film. Go check out the making of the sand sculpture that took two artisans three days to carve. Pretty cool, huh? 

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival at Disney World

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival at Disney World is back and here until July 5, 2021! After missing this festival in 2020, we are SO excited about its return! We cannot decide what excites us more…. the flowers, the topiaries, the food, the live music, who knows, but whatever it is…. we are here for it! What are you most excited about? Tell us in the comments.

When you go, you may notice a new look for the main entrance, where six flags of the original Epcot icons were raised for the first time, with new lighting and music. Read more about the Flower and Garden Festival, RIGHT HERE. 

Blizzard Beach at Disney World is Open

Yesterday was the big opening of Blizzard Beach! For all of you waterpark and Blizzard Beach fans, get excited! You can make reservations NOW. So who is ready to go and have some water fun with the family? Read more about why you should be excited about Blizzard Beach’s reopening, cause, I mean you should be! 

Polynesian Village Resort, Part of the Disney Resorts Collection

Not a lot of news here, but was definitely notable. As you know, the Poly is undergoing some major construction, but come October 1, 2021 you will see some new accommodations and changes just in time for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”, in honor of its 50th anniversary. For all of you Poly fans, I know this is what you have been waiting for. 

Disneyland News

Okay, so around here at Walt Express Blog, we do not get wrapped up in rumors…. BUT since everyone has been anticipating the opening of Walt’s first park, I wanted to add. The rumor is simple and IS NOT definite, so do not take it to heart. There is a rumor floating around that Disneyland may open April 1. AGAIN, this is not definite, but for sure worth noting. We are so ready for Disneyland to open, safely of course. How bout you? Tell us below!

Disney Parks Best Bites

All of you Disney foodies will be happy to hear about some of the new and/ or improved Disney eats! Check out all of the new and best bites at Disney World in February, right here. Get ready though, your mouth will be watering after you check it out. I was personally happy to see that they are continuing the holiday celebration through Feb. 28 with the oh so popular Peppermint Bundt Cake Shake at Hollywood Scoops! Peppermint ice cream topped with whipped cream, TWO festive Bundt cakes, and peppermint bark! YUM!

A Touch of Disney

A touch of Disney will allow you to experience the sights, sounds and flavors of Disneyland with A Touch of Disney, a new, limited-capacity ticketed experience that begins March 18 at California Adventure park. Disneyland may not be completely open, but you can still experience it with A Touch of Disney. Harmonious at Epcot

Once complete Harmonious will be one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever on Disney property. Although a date has not been set for the opening, but when it does Epcot will bring even more fun and embracing the magic of possibility. Read more about it HERE.  

Disney Vacation Club Grand Californian Resort and Spa

The Villas at the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa is currently scheduled to welcome Vacation Club Members once again beginning May 2, 2021. During this phase, only The Villas at the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa will be open for DVC Members. The Hotels of Disneyland Resort, including the rest of the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will remain closed. 

While Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park currently remain closed for normal operations, Downtown Disney has reopened with health and safety measures, and offers a variety of shopping and dining experiences. During the initial reopening period, most resort dining, amenities, activities and services will be modified, limited in capacity or unavailable based on physical distancing and health guidelines. 

Each week brings more fun and more news. I hope this gives you some hope that things are getting back to normal….. whatever NORMAL is. Who knows at this point! Am I right? What are you looking forward to the most. Let us know below, we would love to hear.

Limited-Time Ticketed Experience Coming to California Adventure 

This past week Disney sent a letter to their cast members announcing that they will be sending 1000 cast members back to work. It read as follows: Currently planned to begin mid-March, we will debut an all-new, limited-time ticketed experience, focused on our world-famous food and beverage offerings from around the resort, the latest merchandise and unique, carefully crafted entertainment experiences…all to be offered multiple days a week. With limited capacity and enhanced health and safety measures in place, Guests once again will get to step into a magical Disney environment — an environment that will provide memorable and fun experiences our Guests are craving. This is definitely an exciting time for Disneyland and California Adventure fans. New jobs and new experiences, I know we are excited! How bout you? Tell us below! 

Leave A Legacy Goes Continues

With the transformation of the Epcot main entrance area, the original Legacy sculpture has been removed, but Leave A Legacy lives on in a a new setting just outside the park with bright new colors. The new panels are the first of many that will be installed featuring the park’s new color palette. You can read more about it HERE. It definitely looks and sounds beautiful. We are loving these Epcot upgrades.

Disney World Refurbishments

Disney announced a few refurbishments for Disney World this past week. So as you plan your 2021 Disney vacation keep these refurbishments in mind. 

New Disney World refurbishments are as follows: 

• From January 2022 through April 2022, the Samawati Springs Pool at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village will be closed.
• Starting in April 2021, the Contemporary Resort will begin a refurbishment to SOME guest rooms. Most resort areas and amenities will still be available for Guests to enjoy.
• Starting in February 2021, the Stormalong Bay waterslide at the Beach Club Resort will be closed for refurbishment. 

I am excited see what the news next week will bring. As I said above, the year has started out with a lot of great news. We are well into the new year and the news keeps coming. What would you like to see Disney do, change, refurbish, etc.? we would love to know. We have a running list, but what is yours?

Mickey Breakfast Pizza Recipe

I don’t always cook breakfast, but when I do, it’s usually Disney inspired! HA! I am ALWAYS looking to add more “magic” to the table and thanks to Disney Family Recipes, it happens! Disney Family Recipes posted this great “how to” recipe! You all know me, anything with food and Disney is usually AMAZING, so I tried it. I made a few minor adjustments and VOILA! Mickey Mouse Breakfast Pizza. I will warn you: IT GOES FAST! Stash your slice away and enjoy later.

SO Many Options

There are so many ways to adjust and make this your own, or you can follow the directions down to the “letter M” (M of course stands for Mickey). Your kids will love experimenting and doing it their way. Eggs, bacon, sausage, Canadian bacon…SO MANY OPTIONS! We also use this same base for dinner pizzas, just changing the toppings. Of course, cheese is a BIG component. We like to incorporate some adventurous options such as ham and pineapple or spinach with Alfredo sauce. Whatever your taste, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Original Recipe

You can find the original recipe right here: Mickey Mouse Breakfast Pizza. Disney Family used a Mickey shaped cookie cutter, but you can achieve the same goal just by “shaping” the dough with a knife.

Mickey Pizza Party

Host a Mickey themed pizza party using this recipe. If doing an in person party, set up cute little dishes with all the toppings so everyone can create their own. While we are practicing SOCIAL DISTANCING, set up a zoom call and cook together. This would be a great to get the kids together with friends, grandparents or other family members. A total WIN-WIN for everyone.

TIPS:

• Always preheat your oven before baking any type of pastry crust or dough.
• If you want a Mickey breakfast pizza, grab yours FIRST! There won’t be any left!!
• Make these personalized to each family member. Add their favorite toppings before you bake.
• Even better, get the kids in on the action. Allow each child to create their own Mickey Masterpiece.
• We accidentally used refrigerated Pie Crust instead of Pizza Dough the first time and now we cannot live without it! Best mistake ever! It was delish!
• We used Colby and sharp cheddar cheese, but you can use any type that you fancy!

Disney Dole Whip Recipe

It’s no secret that Disney’s Dole Whip is my all time favorite Disney snack. According to our readers, it’s A LOT of y’all’s favorite too! In fact, it was no surprise that it was number ONE on our list recently. Check it out, right here: 20 Snacks You Can’t Miss in Disney World.

For years, Disney fans like myself have tried to replicate the deliciousness that is Disney Dole Whip.

This sweet and tart, creamy pineapple ice cream is an essential snack on any Disney vacation – and it’s the first thing I start to crave after I haven’t been at the parks in a few months. It’s the perfect treat to cool down in the Florida heat… but who am I kidding? This Dole Whip tastes great at any time of year.

Disney finally shared the official recipe – so we’ve scraped our original attempt (which wasn’t quite perfect) and have now replaced it with this perfect copycat.

“Whip” up a batch of this delicious goodness and share with the family. Or, DON’T share! It’s totally up to you!

Disney World Dole Whips

Disney Dole Whips are less than $5 at the parks and are also available to purchase using a snack credit if you’re using the Disney Dining Plan.

There are several locations around Disney World to find a Dole Whip. One of our favorite spots is in the Magic Kingdom at Aloha Isle. Another favorite spot is at Disney’s Polynesian Resort at their very own Pineapple Lanai where you can also opt for the a pineapple-vanilla twist (my daughter’s favorite) or get a shot of rum added to your whip.

I also really love the Dole Whip Float, which is a Dole Whip added to a glass of pineapple juice. It sounds like a very basic addition but I LOVE this upgrade.

Disney Dole Whip Ingredients

• 2 cups Frozen Pineapple
• ½ cup Pineapple Juice
• Scoop Vanilla Ice Cream

How to Make Disney Dole Whips

1. Blend ingredients until pineapple chunks are completely broken down.
2. Scoop dole whip mixture into prepared piping bag.
3. Swirl the mixture into your serving cups.
4. Garnish and enjoy immediately.

Yield: 1 serving

Disney's Famous Dole Whip Recipe

The perfect copycat recipe for Disney's Famous Dole Whip recipe - a sweet and tart pineapple soft serve that tastes like it came straight from Adventureland instead of your kitchen!

Prep Time 5 minutes

Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

• 2 cups Frozen Pineapple
• ½ cup Pineapple Juice
• Scoop Vanilla Ice Cream

Instructions

1. Optional: fit a piping bag with a large star tip. This will allow you to swirl the dole whip into your glasses for the perfect "soft serve" presentation, just like at the parks. However, this step is not essential and your dole whip will still taste great!
2. Prepare your serving glasses and have them ready as dole whips melt fast!
3. Measure out the ingredients into a smoothie-style blender.
4. Puree just until the pineapple chunks are broken down completely.
5. Scoop the mixture into the prepared piping bag, then swirl the dole whip into your serving glasses.
6. Garnish and enjoy immediately.

Great Wolf Lodge

Let’s start with the room…. the room was so cozy and spacious! Sometimes it is a bit hard to find a hotel room for my family of five without having to get a roll-away bed. The rooms at Great Wolf Lodge were spacious and comfortable for everyone. We had the family suite room with a sofa bed and two double beds, perfect for my family.

Not only are the rooms great but……Get ready to have fun with activities including, dining, crafts, water sports, rock climbing and mini golf.

But, before we get into all of that……LET’S TALK FOOD, BABY!

Great Wolf Lodge Dining

Dining was so easy. There were quite a few places to eat including pizza, less expensive dining experiences, as well as Dunkin Donuts and Ben and Jerry’s. Um, yes please! Dunkin Donuts came in handy for a yummy breakfast after staying up late with all of the fun activities the night before. The best part about it all? At Great Wolf Lodge branded venues the chef’s are passionate about making sure anyone with allergies are safe. They have separate allergy-free prep areas that are utilized when preparing meals for guests with dietary restrictions. This Mama was super happy, since eating out at our local eateries are so hard. It was not hard at all at Great Wolf Lodge for any of my family that has food allergies.

Fun Art And Crafts

The moment we walked out of our hotel door we saw crafts that the kids could enjoy as well as so many other activities, including yoga, Build-a-Bear, story time and so much more. I even learned that you could throw your kids’ birthday party there. I mean, how awesome is that? Fun and clean facility that any kid would enjoy.

Once we were done with our crafts, we headed to Great Wolf Adventure Park and mini golf! The kids had a blast while my husband and I enjoyed watching them have an indoor fun experience away from the cold. For a small extra charge your family can enjoy all of the fun indoor activities, Oh and hey, by the way, Mom and Dad…… don’t forget about the adult beverages. With all of this fun why not sit back and relax as well.

SO Much To Do

Although we only stayed for twenty four hours, my family and I were able to do so much, including the main attraction…. the indoor water park. THE KIDS LOVED IT! It was very clean, it was easy to keep up with the kids in the water play area and my husband and I were able to relax just a bit. It was definitely worth seeing my kids having a great time. While it was freezing cold outside, it was a warm Summer day inside!

We were so excited to be invited to Great Wolf Lodge and it did not disappoint. It would be a great addition to your Disney adventure, whether you are going to Disneyland or you are passing by one on your drive into a Disney Park.

You will be able to make further selections every 90 minutes or when your current FastPass is used (whichever comes first). Another great perk to having the MaxPass is unlimited PhotoPass downloads for the day of purchase. This means everyone in your family can now be in the picture. Selfies trying to get everyone in the picture with the castle is a thing of the past. Disney strategically places several PhotoPass Photographers around the park assuring you will get that picture perfect shot. These downloads will be available on your mobile device within minutes of the photographer taking the picture.

Are you starting your day off with Character Dinning experience? Getting those magical shots of your children seeing their favorite character (while getting a great meal) is included with the MaxPass. One “mom” secret I have is telling my kids that the characters won’t come to our table if they aren’t eating. Works like a charm. Savor the memories you are making along with knowing everyone’s belly with be full.

Park Hopper

The next part of tickets we are going to dive into is the park hopper option. This part of your tickets will be up to what you believe your family will need and want. The two parks, Disneyland and California Adventure are minutes from each other. In fact, the entrances to both parks face one another and are very easily accessible to one another. If you believe your family is going to go back and forth and make the most of your tickets and fast passes this is the best option for you. 

Max Pass

Speaking of fast passes the max pass is another option you may add to your tickets when visiting Disneyland. The maxPass gives you the ability to make fast passes right from your phone. No need to run over to the attraction fast pass location anymore. The ability to pick your fast pass anywhere you are located in the park makes it worth the cost. The MaxPass also includes all your picture downloads from attractions and PhotoPass photographers for a period of time.

Length Of Stay

Now that you know about all the options for your tickets now lets talk about your length of stay. While Disneyland and California Adventure are very close to each other you may still need multiple days to get everything you want to accomplish done. Each park has something different for all ages and attractions that will knock your socks off. The shows and characters are nothing short of amazing; let’s face it we are in the area of Hollywood where everyone goes to be in show biz.

Season Passes

Going to Disneyland more than once in the next 365 days? Maybe a season pass is best for your needs. There are several different options to a season pass at Disneyland. One of the major differences in the season passes is the blackout days. Blackout days can include projected busy days, Holidays and weekends. If you think you want to visit Disneyland on a Holiday there are season passes that have no blackout dates. 

Premier Passport

The last ticket option to talk about is the season pass that gives you access to both Disneyland and Disney World. This pass has all the perks of a season pass with no black out dates, parking pass for all USA parks, and of course the great discounts.

Military Tickets

Have you or someone in your party served in the military? Great news, Disneyland has a ticket for that. To thank you for your service, Disneyland offers a Special Priced ticket called Salute tickets. These tickets are for military personnel and their family. Military personnel can purchase up to six tickets per year.

Disney World and Disneyland Differences

Both Disney World and Disneyland are magical vacation destinations and you can’t go wrong with either one! They do offer tons of magic and fun, but there are MAJOR differences between the two. Read on and find out!

Fast Passes

One of the major differences between Disneyland and Disney World is the fast pass system. With Disney World you are able to pre-plan your day by choosing which park you are attending and obtaining your fast passes 30-60 days in advance. At Disneyland you must wait until you are in attendance at the park to start creating your fast pass selections.

Another major difference is with Disney World you can get up to three fast passes at one time (made in advance either 60 or 30 days before your vacation). Disneyland allows one fast pass at a time unless your selection is later in the day at which time you must wait an allotted time before selecting your next pass.

Food And Dining

OK, let’s talk about snacks for a moment. Disney World has some amazing snacks but I have yet to find a better churro in all the land. Those things I swear have something in them that I can not pass up nor forget about. There are great advantages to Disney World dining though. Disney World is known for their amazing restaurants and who can pass up walking around Epcot to eat around the world? Disneyland does have a few restaurants that you can dine at throughout your vacation but the options are much more limited. One example to this is the character dining. Disneyland offers four different Character Dining experiences while Disney World has well over 25 different options for this experience.

Dining Plan

At Disney World they have a wonderful option you may opt in to; you may pre-purchase a dining plan that is based on credits used for each restaurant. For families that want to have everything set up in advance with no work or surprise costs while on vacation, the Disney Dining Plans are a great option.

Meanwhile, at Disneyland there is no option for a dining plan. You must purchase your food inside the park, near by, or bring in your own food.

Proximity of Park Locations

As you may know the Disney World property is a very large space (almost 40 square miles) and you need time to get from park to park. There are several options for transportation in Disney World in order to get from location to location.

In Disneyland the two parks are very close together. In fact you can get from one park to the other in about 5 minutes or less walking. The transportation in Disneyland is much more simple and you are able to get where you want to go with little knowledge of the transportation system.

Hotels And Resorts

Hotels on the Disneyland property are very close together and there are only three total Disneyland hotels. Each of the hotels are situated near or at Downtown Disney. One great advantage to Disneyland properties is Disney’s Grand Californian has a direct entrance into California Adventures. Yes, you read that correctly; there is a separate entrance for hotel guests to use that goes directly into the Disney California Adventure park.

On the other hand, you have Disney World where you have more options of staying on site and being able to cater to what your families needs are based on what is important to you. Staying at each Disney World resort brings a different experience and atmosphere for your family to experience.

Disney World and Disneyland Differences Offer Different Experiences
