Teppan Edo: A Disney World Dining Review

Teppan Edo made a huge impression on my family! My family has been to traditional hibachi style restaurants before, but I was worried that it would be a bit “much” for my kids, then ages 4, 1, and 1. I was afraid that they would already be in sensory overload from the parks, but surprisingly it was a wonderful experience. The service was impressive and the interaction between the chef and the table was excellent. All three of my kids enjoyed the show, as well as the food. The portions were huge, so not only were my kids happy, my husband was happy too.

Teppan Edo is located in the Japan Pavilion in the World Showcase at Epcot. The decor is really nice and the restaurant is full of hibachi style tables with grills in the center.  Every seat has an excellent view of each chef cooking genuine Japanese cuisine that does not disappoint the pallet and really entertains the children while we wait. Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh and served piping hot!

Accommodating Food Allergies

We have food allergies that run rampant in our family, so dining out for us is quite the special treat.  Like many other Disney restaurants, Teppan Edo helped make all of us feel at ease by going out of their way to insure that we knew they take food preparation very seriously to avoid cross contamination. The chef even personally came out to our table to speak with us about our concerns and specific allergies and he helped us navigate the menu.  We chose chicken, vegetables, and rice and all was good for our allergen family!  He also told us that when we made our Advanced Dining Reservations, we can ask the cast member or travel agent who books it to notate that our family does have special dietary needs or allergies.  I was so relieved to know that they really care about making sure our family can enjoy our meal without having to worry about the allergies that keep us out of restaurants back home.

What to Expect

Check in goes very smoothly, especially if you have made an Advanced Dining Reservation. If you have made your reservation, simply give the cast member your name and your family will be called up shortly. This is also the perfect time to tell the hostess about any food allergies or dietary restrictions your group may have. You will be seated at a hibachi table, often times with other families. Be prepared for small talk, but this is pretty easy with other Disney loving families. The wait staff will come out and take your drink orders and your orders for food.  Shortly thereafter your drinks are delivered and if you have food allergies this is the time when the chef or another member of the cooking staff may choose to go over the details with your family. Next, your hibachi chef will come out and boy will he/she put on a show that will have everyone entertained.

Overall, we really loved Teppan Edo.  The staff was very friendly and made sure the kids were happy, which means a lot to parents when there are two toddlers and one preschooler involved. They even gave the toddlers a little extra to keep them happy which was greatly appreciated. The restaurant itself is a little noisy so if the kids did get loud it wasn’t a problem, but that is something to note if your children don’t like loud noises.  Also, children who are afraid of fire may not like this restaurant as the chefs show off with some pretty impressive food preparation tricks. My husband really likes this restaurant because the portions were large and he felt like we got our moneys worth. If you are on the dining plan, this meal will cost one credit for each member of your group which is also a great deal.  Overall, we feel like this is a must do for every trip and I think you will feel the same way.  Reservations for Advanced Dining Reservations open up 180 days before your check-in date, so don’t delay and book Teppan Edo!
