Epcot’s International Flower And Garden Festival Guide

EPCOT hosts many festivals throughout the year, but this one has surely “blossomed” over the years into something that you just do not want miss out on! Beginning on March 3 and going ALL THE WAY through July 5!  We surely missed this festival last year, due to Covid. So, we are super happy about being able to partake in it this year. Outdoor Kitchen Menus

Epcot is KNOWN for tasty dishes and treats! Their festivals just add even more to that fact. The menus for this year’s Flower and Garden festival have been released and we couldn’t be happier (or more hungry)! A few faves will be back, and tons of new items were announced! Top 5 Romantic Dining Experiences In Disney World

Which dining experiences will be the best for romance? Can we EVEN have romance on a vacation to Disney World? Well, YES, you can and Walt Express has narrowed down our faves! Whether it’s an anniversary, birthday or even Valentine’s Day, we have your romantic dinner covered!

A Few Things to Remember:

• Do not take this the wrong way. Disney World is full of children and for the most part, everything is very child-friendly. However, there are a few restaurants and dining experiences that are geared more for the adult crowd. This does NOT mean that children are not accepted, but it does mean that it’s not your typical character meal with kids running around everywhere. You know your children and you know how they will respond to a dining experience like this. So, if your child does not like sitting still for a couple of hours, these restaurants are not for them.
• If the restaurant is located in a Disney Park, park admission is required.
• Reservations are highly recommended and can currently be made 60 days prior to your vacation.

Let’s Get to the List

• 5. California Grill in the Contemporary Resort: This signature dining experience is one of a kind! Located in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you can take in the sights of Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom park. If you time your reservation just right, a view of the nightly fireworks show in Magic Kingdom park will set the stage for the perfect ending to a romantic evening. 
• 4. Sanaa in Animal Kingdom’s Kidani Village: Located in the Kidani Village, you will watch gazelles, zebras, giraffes, kudu, ostriches, cranes and more as you dine. Sanaa bread service is the BEST on Disney property, and yes, you can order just the bread service. I would suggest a Godiva Chocolate Martini to enjoy while watching the animals!
• 3. Le Cellier Steakhouse in Epcot’s Canada Pavilion. Nestled deep in Canada (crossing the border is not necessary), you will find a delicious, cozy dinner waiting for you at Le Cellier Steakhouse. Share the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup appetizer and a little small talk, while you wait for the main course! After dinner, sip on a glass of Chappellet Chardonnay while you wait on the fireworks to begin (uummm…we are talking about Epcot’s nighttime fireworks show, let’s keep this PG)! 
• 2. Jiko in Animal Kingdom Lodge: Could there be anything better than a Savannah sunset and African inspired cuisine? If this sounds romantic to you, then Jiko is definitly the place to be! 
• 1. Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom: Yes, it’s cliché, but hey, it worked for the Beast! The Rose Room is by far, the MOST ROMANTIC!

Previous Number ONE-Honorable Mention

Victoria and Albert’s in the Grand Floridian: This is by far, the number one place for romance in Disney World, but has not reopened as of yet. This restaurant deserves an honorable mention. Reservations are extremely hard to come by and there is a waiting list. You will dine on a seven or ten course meal and sip on world class wine. This IS a truly amazing experience and will have you talking about it for years to come. Dress code is strictly enforced.

Disney Inspired No Bake Christmas Cookies

We Cheated (a little)

We have totally stolen this blog and are using it here! Just kidding, well sort of. What can we say? We are tired and pooped this holiday season, but wanted to bring our Disney fans a little something extra!! As most of you know, our sister site is amandamiddleton.me. We totally have permission to “borrow” her cookie blog! This is a great AND easy way to bring the family together for some holiday baking, that involves our favorite MOUSE and it IS pretty easy!

Allergy Friendly Disney Inspired No Bake Christmas Cookies

Without further ado, here’s Mandi!

I really did not expect for these to be so much fun, but being the Disney fanatics we are they were SO much fun and tasty too! It also helped that they were super easy and no baking was involved. I found this amazing recipe on Pinterest and now it has a special home on my Christmas Board. These cookies were so much fun to make and I even adapted them, so they are allergy friendly for my family.

We travel to Disney World quite often and I am always inspired by the beautiful cookies and cupcakes that they have to offer. But, we are not always able to eat them due to our food allergies. Disney World has a few options for Gluten-Free and Nut-Free Treats, but they are few and far between! So I was determined to make these tasty treats with allergy-friendly ingredients of course. They were too cute to pass up!

Although ours did not turn out as beautifully as a pastry chefs’, I think they turned out spectacular with some added character.

(Side Note: We are a gluten and nut-free family. These cookies are adapted to our liking. You may need to adapt for your family’s allergies.)

Ingredients for Gluten and Nut Free Cookies

• larger (Oreo) cookies
• smaller cookies
• Red Candy Melts
• Bow Decorations 
• decorating icing 
• Allergy Friendly Christmas Sprinkles
• Buttons for Mickey
• Christmas Sprinkles

Directions (I promise, this is so easy)!

1. Get all of your ingredients together
2. Grab the kids
3. Place the smaller cookie slightly inside of larger cookies for Mickey and Minnie’s ears. Be careful not to break the cookies
4. Dip the bottom half of the cookie into the red candy melts
5. Place the coated cookie on wax paper
6. Decorate while drying
7. Wait to dry to add embellishments such as lines or bows
8. Have fun
9. Enjoy

This project is great for kids of all ages with parental supervision. Kids over the age of six may not need to be supervised as much.

You Must Do The Jingle Cruise

The Jingle Cruise is all about the homesick skippers of the Jungle Cruise. To make everything feel more like home, the skippers have decorated the queue with items that have been mailed to them. Some of the items they have even made themselves. Basically, the Jingle Cruise is just like the Jungle Cruise, just with some holiday cheer added. The scenes throughout the adventure will have some festive decorations to help the skippers celebrate the season. You will also notice while on your “trip” that the skippers have added some holiday jokes to lighten the spirit a little more.

Not only are the scenes and the queue transformed, but so are the boats! Make sure you pay close attention to the names of the individual boats because the skippers have also changed them up a bit. Those skippers know exactly how to create the perfect holiday! Just a few examples; Sankuru Sadie becomes Sleigh Ride Sadie, Congo Connie becomes Candy Cane Connie, Mongala Millie becomes Mistletoe Millie and Amazon Annie becomes Eggnog Annie, just to name a few!

Height Requirement

Same as the Jungle Cruise, there is not a height requirement for Jingle Cruise. No matter what age, or height, everyone in your party will be able to enjoy this attraction. Such a great family fun attraction that you definitely need to add to your list. Have you really done the holidays in Disney World if you haven’t done the JINGLE CRUISE at least once?

Get ready to see the BACKSIDE OF WATER, holiday edition!! So much fun!

Accessibility and Other Information

• You may remain in your wheelchair or ECV to ride Jingle Cruise.
• Assistive Listening and Language Translation devices are available upon request. Sign Language services are also available upon request.
• Social distancing is in full effect and guidelines will be followed.
• Don’t forget your face mask! This will be strictly enforced.

Tips

• FastPass+ is offered for Jingle Cruise. Fast passes are not available as of right now.
• Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by someone 14 years or older.
• Jingle Cruise runs from early November to early January.
• Bring your sense of humor, the cornier the better!

No one does the holidays like Disney World and we mean NO ONE! Anytime you can get there is a great time to visit, but when you visit during a specific holiday, there is just extra magic everywhere! There are also extra crowds. This means it can be a stressful time to visit, if you allow it to be. Disney World can be stressful? Yes, it can. Don’t worry! Walt Express has 10 great tips to help get you through the Thanksgiving holidays at Disney World.

10 Tips On How To Survive Disney World During Thanksgiving Holidays

When schools in the U.S. are out, the crowds in Disney World will increase. Especially during a holiday time. The crowds during Thanksgiving are really unpredictable. Early in the week, you may see low crowds. Later in the week, BAM! Everyone shows up! There is a secret to surviving: PLAN, PLAN and then PLAN some more! A travel planner would be a great addition during this time! In this time of Covid, Thanksgiving at Disney World is going to look a little different. Be sure you KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

1. Dining reservations. Definitely grab reservations at the 60 day mark! Some restaurants in the parks and the resorts will host a traditional Thanksgiving feast, but you will want to grab that reservation early! Don’t wait!
2. NO Fast passes. Sadly, no fast passes for this year. Be sure to stay up to date on wait times through the My Disney Experience APP!
3. Rest. Don’t wear yourself out! Find the best resting spots right here: TOP SPOTS FOR A BREAK!
4. Good attitude. This is KEY! You KNOW it will be crowded and you KNOW the lines will be long. You ARE in Disney World…concentrate on the magic and have a good attitude.
5. Weather. For the most part, the weather is very pleasant during this time! Be prepared for rain. Bring ponchos and rain gear, just incase.
6. Which park to choose? This one is tricky. Magic Kingdom WILL BE the most crowded park. I mean, who doesn’t want to spend Thanksgiving Day in the Magic Kingdom? Choose another park to spend the day in or see number 8.
7. Be nice to cast members. Cast members are away from their families during the holidays so they can bring magic to YOUR family!
8. Avoid the parks. Resort hop on Thanksgiving day! Grab a dining reservation for Thanksgiving lunch or dinner at one of Disney World’s Resorts. Definitely think about a “family day” at the resort. Grab lunch or dinner at your resort (or hop over to another resort), lounge by the pool and RELAX! After all, you will want to save your energy for Black Friday shopping in Disney Springs!
9. Lines everywhere. There WILL be crowds and lines pretty much everywhere, but it’s totally doable! Be patient. Social distancing will be strictly enforced this year, making crowds appear larger.
10. Staying on-site. Seriously think about staying on-site for big holidays, especially for the “first timers”. Staying on-site does make getting around Walt Disney World property a lot easier when there are big crowds!

Holidays Are Back At Disney Word

The holidays are back at Disney World for 2020 and we couldn’t be happier. We have a breakdown of what you can expect at each park, Disney Springs, and more. It does look a little different this year, but that’s OK! At least we do get some Christmas Cheer when visiting our favorite place in the WORLD! That just makes me SO happy! Here is a list of some holiday cheer you will find everywhere in Disney World. There are still social distancing and face mask rules in place. Meet and greets are also a little different as well. No touchy touchy!

• Sweet holiday treats can be found throughout Disney World! Click this link for sweet treat locations!
• You will find season decorations in each park! Plus, several attractions will be showing off their best holiday spirit!
• MUST HAVE holiday merchandise, everywhere!! 
• Disney World Resorts are also in the holiday spirit! You will find seasonal decorations AND sweet treats at various locations. 
• Holiday magic can be found November 6 to December 30, 2020.

There are still social distancing and face mask rules in place. Meet and greets are also a little different as well. No touchy touchy! But, it’s STILL Disney World and it’s the holidays! What could be better?

Magic Kingdom Park

• Castle Projections: Watch in awe as Cinderella Castle is transformed with cheerful projections.
• Themed Character Cavalcades: Wave to Mickey and friends as they show off their holiday spirit during festive sightings. Also a special appearance by Santa Claus himself!

• Santa Claus Promenade: Witness Santa Claus’s grand tour around World Showcase in his horse-drawn sleigh, wishing everyone a happy holiday season.
• Mickey and Friends Holiday World Tour: Look for Mickey Mouse and his pals all dressed in their seasonal finest.
• Frozen Holiday Promenade: Watch Queen Anna and Elsa ring in the season, journeying from country to country and waving to their fans—like you—along the way.
• New! Olaf’s Holiday Tradition Expedition Scavenger Hunt: Have a blast tracking down all of the things on Olaf’s list during this fun scavenger hunt.

Our Experience While Flying

What’s the first thing you notice when you walk into the airport? People right!?! Not this time. Here is our experience while flying back to Disney World during the “new normal”.

The Airport Experience

The first thing I noticed was sanitation stations standing alone in an empty ticketing area. Both travelers and airport personnel were all wearing some type of face-mask, whether it be an N95 mask, neck gaiter, disposable or homemade mask. For a midweek flight on a holiday afternoon, the airport was empty. I may have counted 20 people in the Terminal D check-in area. Ticket agents seemed to be smiling underneath their masks as they were finally seeing some sort of personal interaction with travelers again. After being greeted with a warm welcome, it was business as usual: driver’s license and ticket please.

Security

Off we go to the security section. My wife and I both have TSA Pre-Check as we find it very convenient especially when traveling through our favorite airport in Orlando Florida. This helps speed up the security process. Upon arrival to the security check-in, we were notified that TSA-Pre-check has temporarily been suspended in terminal D at Philadelphia International Airport. If you decide to fly within the next few months you may want to check with your local airports. Orlando International Airport is currently accepting TSA Pre-check, so no worries there. After entering the security checkpoint area 6’ distance markers were placed on the floor to help with social distancing. An agent was there to remind guests to keep their face-masks on from their chin to their nose and to practice social distancing. Once we arrived at the TSA agent who checked our Identification and ticket, we were asked to lower our face-mask for visual confirmation.

• Please note that the previous TSA travel advisory of having to have a Real ID to travel beginning on October 1, 2020 has been postponed until October 1, 2021

After visual verification, you will proceed like normal to x-ray scanners and follow the standard security procedures that are already in place. You are allowed to bring a 12 oz container of hand sanitizer per traveler in your carry-on luggage at this time. Please be aware that this may cause a delay as it would need to be screened separately from your normal 3.4 oz. liquid allowance. Once through the security check-point there are sanitation stations located throughout the terminals and gates of the airport. We noticed this at both Philadelphia and Orlando airports.

So Far So Good…Into The Gates

Unfortunately, there are no social distance markers once you proceed to the gates. You will see people in every available seat at your departing gate. We chose to sit four gates down and kept an eye on our departing gate when people started to move when lining up. Yes, I said it. People still line up and block the entrance way to gates because, well, I don’t know why. Everyone has assigned seats and are going to the same place but old habits are hard to break. Some airlines have changed their boarding process. This may be a good thing for future traveling and will load from the back of the plane forward, clearing the aisle ways. This makes for a quicker loading procedure. Again this is some airlines. Not all have changed their boarding procedures.

Boarding The Plane

After you board your plane, you will definitely notice the cleanliness of it. Makes you wonder why did it take a Pandemic to change the health and safety of the travelers? Leaving on a holiday weekend, our plane was full which did cause a little anxiety with that many people in such a little space. However, we were lucky and had a germaphobe next to us that wiped their areas as well as ours with sanitizing wipes. If you travel on one of the budget friendly airlines, it might help to pay a little extra for the seats in the front. Those only have two seats per row and are more spread out.

The airline attendants did their best to make everyone feel comfortable with the announcements including the safety and cleaning techniques used on the planes. Once in the air, most services have been suspended, such as alcohol, soft drinks and snacks. The services provided will depend upon the airline you are flying with. All passengers are required to wear their mask for the duration of the flight and if an attendant does notice you sneaking it to the side or sliding it down your face they will remind you of the safety guidelines. Our flight was rather short at just over two hours and we wore the N95 masks. The masks were comfortable and had no issues with keeping them on for the duration.

Departing The Plane

Once we departed the plane, a hand sanitation station was located at our arrival gate. It seemed like everyone was using it in front and behind us as well. Again when we landed in Orlando, we saw sanitation stations throughout. Announcements over the airport PA system about keeping with social distancing and using proper hygiene. There is a disappointing part. The social distancing at the baggage claim was the same as the departing gate. There were no noticeable social distance markers in the baggage claim area, with the exception of a few aerial signs that no one paid attention to. We also noticed that some of the younger and teenage children were starting to pull their masks down. It seemed to become bothersome to them. Overall we felt very comfortable and safe flying with all the new safety and health precautions the airlines and airports have put in. There will be certain situations that may feel uncomfortable at times, but be smart and use your head and know your surroundings.

TIPS to enhance your experience while flying back to the magic!

• Bring hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes in your check-in luggage
• Move to an empty gate near your designated departure gate to help with the social distancing
• Check what services are available at your airport, including TSA Pre-check
• Check with your airline on what services are available in-flight
• Clean your area when entering the plane
• If you have an aisle seat, wait to enter till the end so you do not have to have all the passengers walking by you
• There are currently limited restaurants and shops open. It would be best to check with your local airport for what shops and restaurants are available

Save Money in the Disney Parks

1. KEEP YOUR WALLET HYDRATED-Yes, keep your WALLET hydrated by bringing in a cooler!! Take full advantage of the ability to bring a cooler into the Disney Parks. I don’t mean a cooler that will fit two refrigerators full of food, but one that will accommodate several bottles of water and some sandwiches and snacks. This one move will save you tons!! It will also help with the kiddos wanting one of everything they walk past! Our personal favorite is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Don’t be intimidated about bringing a cooler or backpack in a Disney World Park! It can save you a ton of money while visiting. It only takes just a few minutes longer to go through “bag check”, but with so much beautiful scenery around, who cares? BONUS TIP: Most Quick Service dining locations will give you a FREE cup of ice water if you ask nicely!
2. SWITCHEROO-Try a late lunch table service and then a quick service meal later for dinner. Usually prices are cheaper at lunch. You can also share a plate or order up a larger appetizer! 
3. GLOW STICKS/BUBBLES-When the sun sets anywhere in Disney World, the neon light rises! Be ready with your glow sticks and bracelets that you purchased from the Dollar Tree! Just sit back and smile when you see people handing out those $20’s for glow-in-the-dark items. 
4. PRESSED PENNIES-Kids LOVE getting “stuff” anywhere they see it and believe me, Disney World is FULL of cute stuff! They are also full of penny press machines! For .51, you can get a great souvenir in just about every corner of Walt Disney World. These change quite often, so that .51 may be worth a lot more some day!
5. PONCHOS/UMBRELLAS-This one is pretty simple. It rains in Orlando. A LOT! Buy those beforehand and stick in a backpack or even a back pocket. Again, Dollar Tree has them for $1.00 vs. $10.00 in the parks. Just throw them in the trash when you’re done with them!
6. STROLLERS/WHEELCHAIRS-Rent these prior to visiting. There are many vendors that will deliver to your resort and pick up when you are done. So easy and cheaper!
7. CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS-Sometimes, they will have discounts on them for another purchase!
8. After eating a meal, ask for a GO-DRINK. Don’t waste those free refills! 
9. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES-If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, wedding, etc., let your resort know at check-in and they will give you a button. This will also work even if you are not staying on-site at Disney World Resort. Just let your server know! This alone can score you some FREE desserts and lots of sweet and magical wishes.
10. SIGN NAME HERE-No, not you, silly! For the characters! You don’t have to buy the “autograph book” at a hefty price. Yep, pick that up at the Dollar Tree too! It’s actually a journal with MORE pages and yes, they even have Disney character ones! Click this link for some pretty unique ways we like to collect autographs!

It is Worth Visiting Disney World

Let’s just admit this first thing. Over the years, Disney World has COMPLETELY spoiled us. Yes, I admit I am a spoiled brat when it comes to my Disney World vacations. We make our dining reservations in advance and get the most sought after dining experiences. At 60 days in advance, we fight for those fast passes that our family “just has to have”.  We have an app that acts as our own personal tour guide. Then, once you arrive for your vacation, the fun begins. The parades, the meet and greets and the shows. Of course, this is not even a fraction of the magic that awaits you when you visit Disney World.

Then Covid-19 Happened

This virus has changed the way the world looks right now and has put a temporarily halt on a lot of travel plans. But, but, but…things are heading into a brighter and more magical direction. Our favorite Orlando destination has announced reopening plans and they DO look a lot different right now. I like to say that Disney World is going back to the old school style. For awhile, there will not be any “extras” such as parades, fireworks, etc. That doesn’t mean the magic is gone. It just means it’s going to look different for a little while. The safety of the cast members and guests IS the most important thing right now. In my opinion, it’s very comforting to know that Disney World takes my health and safety seriously.

Will this last through the end of 2020? We have no idea. Will things change as we progress towards a new normal? You can bet on it! Here are my thoughts on that change and how our family will proceed.

I am a travel planner and wrote this to my clients. This is truly how I feel.

Covid-19 has changed A LOT for all of us and our favorite travel destinations. One thing I have realized, is that Disney World has totally spoiled us over the years!! Big changes were released last night and although we aren’t very happy about them, it is what it is.

Will I stop going? NOPE
Will I stop feeling the magic? NOPE
Will I stop promoting Disney World? NOPE
Will I stop working for my clients? NOPE

LOVE Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party takes places during the Fall and early Fall each year. This is a special event held on select nights at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. The cost for the event ranges from $85.00 to $149.00 (on Halloween night). Tickets may be purchased in advance or sometimes at the gate if not already sold out. Yes, some nights will sell out, it’s THAT popular.

So, why do WE love this party so much. Keep reading and I will tell you!

The Villains

Yes, we LOVE the villains and there are plenty to go around at this event. You will find everyone’s favorite baddies, including some rare characters. These rare characters will ONLY make their appearance at this party!

The Treats

• Candy, candy and even more candy. And yes, we mean the good stuff! There are treat stations set up throughout Magic Kingdom park and you may visit each one multiple times if you like!
• You will find specialty desserts and treats throughout this event, that is not available during normal operating hours. Of course, this is our favorite part!
• Special Event merchandise. Yep, merchandise such as collectible pins, popcorn buckets and tons more! You will only be able to find these goodies at the party, after 7 pm.

Special Parades And Events

• Mickey’s Boo To You Parade usually happens twice during the event.
• Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular, a fireworks show that will leave you breathless!
• Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular-Sanderson sisters (need we say more)???

Low Crowds

Tickets are limited for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, so on most nights, you will find lighter crowds. The closer you get to Halloween, the more people you will find! It’s not bad at all. Totally worth it! Five minutes for Splash Mountain? Yes, please!

So MANY More Reasons We LOVE Mickey’s Not So Scary

• This is the ONE event that adults are allowed to dress up as their favorite character.
• Book your trip for the end of October through the beginning of November. The lets you see the magical transformation from Halloween at Disney World to Christmas at Disney World! The absolute BEST of both worlds.
• You can enter Magic Kingdom Park as early as 4 pm with a party ticket. The party doesn’t kick off till 7 pm, giving you 3 extra hours!
• There are also special events INSIDE the special event. Cruella’s Halloween Hide A Way, Dessert parties and table service dining options are all available during this event!’
  
• Don’t forget about the special photopass opportunities. You may just come home with a friend in your pictures!

2020 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

See, SO much to take in and one night hardly gets the job the done. If doable, we like to come back and experience it a second time.

This year’s dates are as follows:

• August 13, 18, 21, 25 and 28
• September 1, 4, 7, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27 and 29
