Downtown Disney District 

Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort will be welcoming the Star Wars Trading Post at its new location on February 19, along with some other outdoor dining and stores. Also if you are a Legacy Passholder there will be a limited-time magical extra opportunity for Star WarsTrading Post. Go HERE for more information! You do not want to miss it, I am sure. I can not wait to see what it is! 

Carthay Circle Lounge

Carthay Circle Lounge – Alfresco Dining, with its seasonal menu and unique dining environment on Buena Vista Street, an extension of Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort welcomed back guests on Friday, February 5. You can use your mobile app for mobile dining order to make reservations. And if you are still hungry, you can also enjoy outdoor vending carts near Buena Vista Street. They are once again selling ice cream, cotton candy, soft drinks and other food and beverage items. They will have many options to choose from and more things are slowly opening up, so be on the lookout! Or better yet, come here and we will give you the goods!

The Liberty Belle Sets Sail as the Rivers of America Prepares a Return to Magic Kingdom Disney World 

Last October, Cast Members drained the waters of the Rivers of America in Fronteirland, sending the Liberty Belle to dry dock behind Magic Kingdom Disney World in order to replace her underwater track. She is now returning in all of her glory. She has been greatly missed and we are so excited about her return to one of our favorite Disney parks. 

We visited while the Rivers of America was drained. Looks so strange doesn’t it? But, cool in the same sense. It is always so amazing to see how they upkeep all of the attractions in Disney Parks.

I do not know about you but my family loves a good game of Charades. Throw in Disney and man do you ever have them entertained. A couple of weeks ago we decided to take our game of Disney Charades to a new level. We decided to invite some friends to play with us. With the country going through major social distancing and with stay-at-home orders we decided to take it online! We invited some of our closest Disney friends to join us on Zoom and we had a blast! We gave out prizes to the families that won each round and it was a great time for all.

Play Disney Charades

Here is how we did it:

• Grab the Disney Charades download below.
• We had five rounds. With seven turns each round.
• We would take turns in my family acting out each Disney Movie provided on the below sheet.
• Whichever family would yell the answer out first would get a point.
• At the end of the round whoever had the most points won the round.
• Whichever family won each round would win a prize.
• We picked prizes from Amazon before we started the game that we knew each family would love. Especially during this time since everyone is stuck at home due to COVID-19.

That is just an idea of how you can play it online with your friends and family. It worked for us and it was so much fun for all! You may have another idea. Get creative and have some fun with it. There is no right or wrong way to play, honestly. It will be different no matter what since everyone is not together. But, that is okay, we can all make the best of it.

It always turns out being so much fun and makes people forget even for a second what is going on in our world today.

Today especially, everyone needs to escape from reality. And with all of the Disney Parks closed right now it makes it hard to escape to our “Happy Place” so let’s bring our “Happy Place” to all of us as we go through this difficult time in the world today. When most people think Disney World the word FREE does not even come to mind. Did you know that you can find quite a few freebies that can be fun souvenirs. Yes, you read that correctly: FREE. I don’t know about you, but I love freebies, especially freebies at Disney World! Let me share with you a few favorites that we have found in our adventures around Disney World.

Disney Transport Official Collection Cards

In all my years of visiting the parks, I never knew that these fun little cards even existed until our recent trip. These cards can be collected from bus, monorail, tram, boat & Minnie Van transportation. They have been in circulation since 2006. I still can’t believe I did not know about these until now. It is kind of like a little hidden secret. You must ask a cast member that works in transportation for these cards, as they do not just freely hand them out. It is possible for a cast member not to have any left when you ask so don’t get disappointed. You will just have to keep asking at other stops during your travels. You may also get the same card more than once. In my experience, each cast member would smile then ask if I was looking for a specific card.

Fun facts and Did you Know questions/answers can be found on the back of each card as well as a tip on where to find hidden Mickey’s. It was so much fun to collect these as we traveled around the Disney World property. I was able to collect 10 different cards this trip and I am excited to see which ones I get the next time we visit.

Celebration Buttons

There is always something we can celebrate on a Disney World vacation! From Birthdays, Anniversaries, Honeymoon, life achievements or even just your very first visit.  These buttons can be found at any guest services location as well as in any of the gift shops throughout the entire Walt Disney World property. Ask any cast member for a celebration button to let them know what you are celebrating. They will give you the one you would like as well as make it extra special by writing your name on your button.

As you wear your buttons throughout your day don’t be surprised to hear a Happy Birthday or Congratulations from cast members and even from other park guests. While it is not a guarantee, there have been times that we were surprised with a fun treat such as a free cookie or milk shake. All because we were wearing our celebration buttons. This special kind of magic may not happen for everyone, but you never know! So grab your Celebration Button and wear it proudly.

Timon & Pumba Safety Cards

These cards have illustrations of Timon & Pumba demonstrating park safety. These are especially fun for little kiddos but are very educational. Disney World’s number one priority is guest safety and these little cards have great tips to keep you and your family safe. You can find these by asking for them at any Guest Services location and you will sometimes get them from Cast Members if they are out of the transportation cards. Such fun freebies at Disney World!

Park Maps

At the entry to each park or on the counters of the checkout inside the gift shops and guest services, you can pick up park maps. These maps can be seasonally depending on special events and new attractions. They make great souvenirs! By collecting them each time you visit, you can later look back to see how the parks have changed throughout the years.

Mickey Mouse Stickers

Kids love stickers! OK, who am I kidding, some adults love stickers too. Disney World hands out tons of Mickey Mouse stickers to park guests. Did you know you can ask for these stickers as well. Some of the spots you may them are from cast members, Disney Vacation Club stands, gift shop checkout counters. All of these usually keep rolls of stickers so next time you are in the parks remember to ask for some!

Lights! Cameras! ACTION! If you are hearing those famous words, yes, you are in Hollywood Studios. With all that is going on in Hollywood Studios these days, you are bound to become famished! Do you love Hollywood and Vine in Hollywood Studios? Then you are going to LOVE Hollywood and Vine Seasonal Dine: A Disney World Dining Review.

Hollywood and Vine Seasonal Dine

Just about everyone knows about Hollywood and Vine. This “must-do” restaurant is famous for the character meet and greets featuring your favorites from Disney Junior. “Fancy Nancy”, “Doc McStuffins”, “Vampirina”, and “Roadster Racer Goofy”, will visit you while you dine “buffet” style for breakfast! BUT, did you know about the Hollywood and Vine Seasonal Dine?

Things are a little different at dinner time and during lunch! Check it out!

Minnie’s Seasonal Dine

During dinner and lunch, you will be attending “Minnie’s Seasonal Dine”. Minnie “hosts” a fabulous dinner party with four of her closest friends and YOU!! Mickey, Donald, Daisy and Goofy will all be there in their “seasonally finest” outfits, coming around to each table for you to meet and greet! Get those autograph books ready.

When you first arrive, Minnie or one of her friends will greet you and your family with a special photo op! You will then be seated and the fun begins!! I am sure as you are escorted to your table, that you will catch a glimpse of the “dessert bar”. Yes, I said DESSERT BAR! A whole entire section of sweets and complete yumminess! That Minnie KNOWS how to throw a dinner party!

Buffet Style

As I mentioned earlier, this is an all you care to enjoy (buffet style) dinner or lunch. You will find a HUGE and delicious assortment of delectable dishes such as: peel ‘n eat shrimp, spit-fire roasted ham, turkey and tons of “fixin’s”. The menu somewhat changes “seasonally” to accommodate fruits and veggies that are “in” that season. No fear, the lobster mac ‘n cheese is ALWAYS on the buffet! There is also a children’s buffet with all of the things the little ones prefer: chicken nuggets, mac ‘n cheese and more. Children may also eat from the adult buffet and vice versa, making this meal an excellent value.

Please, for the love of Mickey, SAVE ROOM FOR THE DESSERTS. Again, you will definitely want to save a little room, maybe even A LOT of room, for one of the best dessert bars around. In keeping with the “seasonal” theming, you will find some desserts only available at certain times of the year. You will also find some of the most beautifully decorated desserts in Disney World!

Pricing

Minnie’s Seasonal Dining costs $52 per adult and $31 per child, plus tax and gratuity.

• Dining Plans are accepted.
• This will be one table service credit per person in the dining party.
• Please note that if you have a party of 6 or more, an automatic gratuity of 20% will be added.

Keep the night’s festivities going with your Fantasmic! Dining Package’s VIP seating for that evening’s show-complete with preferred viewing! Pricing for Minnie’s Seasonal Dining with Fantasmic (preferred viewing location):

March In Disney World

Magical Happenings

Can you believe we are talking about March already? This year is moving right along and we are supper excited to announce some extra fun during this month!

Epcot’s Festival of the Arts will be ended late last month, but no worries, a NEW festival coming this month! Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival will make it’s debut beginning on March 6th. The festival this year runs extra long, not ending until June 3rd! WOW!! So, you have plenty of time to experience everything this festival has to offer.

Weather In March

March begins to heat up, but can also see some cool nights. Bring a light jacket and ponchos for the rain showers!

Crowds In March

March in Disney World begins pretty slow, but boy oh boy, it does NOT stay that way! Most United States schools have their Spring Break vacations during this month. From about the second week in March through the end of the month, it will stay pretty busy. Don’t stress! With a good plan, it’s totally doable!

RESORTS

Disney Skyliner: We have embarked on creating a new transportation system, Disney Skyliner, which will give Guests a bird’s-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort while traveling via gondolas. During this time construction noise may be seen or heard throughout the resort, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms between dusk and 9 am. Ongoing until further notice.

The Skyliner process will affect the following resorts: POP CENTURY, CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT, ART OF ANIMATION and BOARDWALK INN & VILLAS.

Coronado Springs: A few refurbishments are going on.

• Room Refurbishment: During this time, amenities including dining locations (such as the newly re-imagined Rix Sports Bar and Grill) and merchandise locations, pools, La Vida Health Club with the spa and salon, and recreation activities such as beach volleyball, Iguana Arcade, Movies Under the Stars and more, will remain available. Please note that noise will be heard while our Resort is undergoing refurbishments, but noise should not be heard from Guest rooms prior to 9:00 am daily. Ongoing.
• Pepper Market: During this time, the quick-service restaurant, Pepper Market, will undergo minor refurbishment work, but will remain in operation. If Guests would like to experience one of the other dining locations, they can visit Maya Grill, Las Ventanas, Café Rix, Laguna Bar, Siestas Cantina and the newly reimagined space, Rix Sports Bar & Grill, featuring a variety of sandwiches, salads and refreshing beverages. All amenities will remain in operation, including the Dig Site pool area, La Vida Health Club, Salon & Spa and the Iguana Arcade. Through Summer 2019.

Check out the new guest rooms at All Star Movies!! It’s pretty awesome! Their refurbishment is complete and is absolutely stunning!

What to Expect in Disney World During the Month of January

Magical Happenings

January 2019 at Disney World! What a great way to start the New Year off. If this is your “Disney Month“, then you picked a great time to visit. Walt Express has the complete guide to Disney World during the month of January right here. The holidays are over, but that does NOT mean the magic is over!

Weather in January

The weather in January can be much cooler (for Orlando), especially at night. Sometimes, January will have cool, rainy days, so be sure to bring ponchos and a light jacket.

Crowds in January

January is a pretty tame month for Disney World. Of course the first few days will be crowded, with Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. These will taper off early in the month. Epcot’s Father Christmas in the United Kingdom

As we heard the “bells tolling”, we gathered near the English Garden in the beautiful United Kingdom. Father Christmas arrived dressed in green with a beard as white as snow. Carrying a bell and counting, the children were all enthralled and curious as he began to tell his story of why the “bells toll”. He explained that each bell heard represents a year since the birth of Christ.

Learning about all of the different cultures and how each one celebrates this magical season was such a wonderful experience.

A Spot of Tea?

For a special treat, be sure to stop by the “The Tea Caddy” and have a “spot of tea”.  Everyone knows that the British know a thing or two about fine tea! Sometimes, this little quaint shop will give away samples!

Festival Of The Holidays

Every year, Epcot hosts “Festival Of The Holidays“. You are able to visit all eleven of the different countries and see what each Holiday Season is like. From holiday foods, to parties with singing and dancing and even down to Santa! Yes, Santa! Let me tell you, this is something that you DON’T want to miss. You can grab a times guide from the Showcase Plaza and find out at exactly what times the shows and events will take place in each country. ***Please Note: Valid park admission is required to Epcot (Festivals of the Holidays is a FREE event).

Minnie Van Transportation Service: A Disney World Review

During our recent trip to Disney World, we experienced all that the Minnie Vans had to offer!

During our last trip, we had booked a 7 a.m. reservation at Chef Mickey’s so that we could make it to park opening with time to spare. I had planned on using bus transportation to get us to the Contemporary, but when we arrived at our resort, we found out that the buses would not be running early enough to get us there on time!

After a little bit of panic, I spoke with the Concierge and he talked to me about the Minnie Van Transportation. Disney has partnered with Lyft to offer the Minnie Van service through their app, but each Minnie Van is driven by experienced Disney Cast Members. Each vehicle is a Chevrolet Traverse that offers seating for up to 7 passengers and also offers car and boosters seats for younger guests. He helped me download the app and understand exactly how it worked, so my husband and I decided to give it a try for getting to our early breakfast. We LOVE cast members!

The morning of our breakfast, we used the app to call for our ride as early as possible (6:30 am) to meet us in the parking lot right outside of our room. (There were several pickup location choices, including the lobby/front desk area, any of the bus stops, and the parking lots.) We instantly got the message that our ride was on it’s way and would meet us in less than 10 minutes.

When our driver arrived, he greeted us politely and asked us how many car seats we would be needing for our trip to the Contemporary. We told him we would need a booster and a full car seat. He opened the back of the car, pulled out the seats and got to work installing them right away! The Disney Minnie Van drivers that we met during our stay were long-time Disney Cast Members who had moved to the position of driving Minnie Vans. Each of them were well-trained in car seat safety and installation as part of Disney’s Minnie Van training program for drivers.

Our driver was able to quickly and correctly install the seats (I’m a bit of a stickler about car seat safety, guys, so I was hovering a little) and got us on our way in less than 10 minutes. Our driver was friendly and happy to answer all of our questions as we drove to the Contemporary for our breakfast. He made the entire trip ━ from start to finish ━ very comfortable and easy, and got us there with plenty of time to spare before our reservation time!

We enjoyed our experience so much that we decided to use the Minnie Van service one more time before we left Disney property to avoid the large Spring Break crowds on the buses and monorail after a late dinner.

Pricing

For some, the price tag seems steep at $20 (plus optional tip) one way, but for us it was really worth every penny. There is always the option to use traditional Lyft and Uber instead of resort transportation like the buses or Minnie Vans, but with Minnie Vans you are always guaranteed car seats if you have little ones and you are driven by a friendly, helpful Cast Member who will get you around property quickly and safely. Using the Minnie Vans was definitely one of the best transportation experiences we have ever had at Disney, and since we’ve always had great transportation experiences before, that’s saying a lot!!

Update

The pricing scale has changed a bit and will now be based on the distance traveled from the pick up location to the requested destination. You will see the total cost through the Lyft App and will also be required to pay for the service.

Now Available:

Announced recently, Minnie Van Transportation Service will be available to ALL Disney World Resorts AND available from the Orlando International Airport. Click the link and read all about it from our friends at Disney Parks Blog!

Last summer, the Minnie Van personal ride service debuted to offer guests eye-catching rides throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. Now, guests staying at any Walt Disney World Resort hotel can also use Minnie Vans for travel to and from Orlando International Airport.

Whereas Minnie Van transportation on property can be arranged through the Lyft app, Minnie Vans airport shuttle service reservations must be made by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. The service is available to guests staying at any Walt Disney World Resort hotel. Hours of operation for the shuttle service is for flight arrivals 7 a.m.-10 p.m. for flight departures 9 a.m.-12 a.m. Each Minnie Van can hold up to six passengers and eight medium-sized suitcases. Up to three complimentary car seats can also be provided and ADA accessible vehicles are available.

Top 20 Best Spots To Take A Break In Disney World

Disney World Parks can be brutal on your body! You want to take EVERYTHING in and get the most out of your vacation, so you push yourself until you can go no more. It is very important to take breaks to make your visit a more enjoyable experience. Walt Express and some of our wonderful readers have some GREAT places to chill out and relax a little!

1. Of course, everyone knows going back to your resort is a great way to relax for a bit, especially in the Summer heat. But, sometimes you just don’t want to leave the magic! We understand! For more tips on surviving the parks in the Summer heat, check out: How to Survive the Summer Heat.

Without further ado, here are more great tips for staying refreshed and happy while in the parks.

Magic Kingdom

2. Grab a spot during the Festival of Fantasy Parade! Yes, this is one of the BEST ways to relax in Magic Kingdom. Parade times are listed on the Disney website, so you can actually plan some down time. Our favorite way of doing this is get to the spot we want to watch the parade from about 30-45 minutes beforehand, grab a cake pop and relax! Brandalyn’s favorite spot is beside Casey’s Corner!

3. Angel S. and her kiddos’ favorite spot in Magic Kingdom is the Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor in Tomorrowland. This interactive show will definitly have you relaxed AND laughing your tiredness right away! They “rested” four times! Way to go!

4. Misty M.s “go-to” place is Mickey’s PhilharMagic! We agree Misty, this is a GREAT spot! 12 minutes of pure fun, laughter AND sitting down! Just watch out for Donald and his shenanigans!

5. Many of our readers absolutely LOVE the People Mover in Tomorrowland! While sitting for a spell, you get to enjoy all of the sights and attractions around!

6. Jennifer B. says “the benches right outside the tea cups are perfect!” Perfect for resting those tired feet, that is! For more tips on how to keep those feet happy, check out HAPPY FEET IN DISNEY!

7. Casey Jr. Splash N’ Soak Station is the perfect place to cool down and rest! The kids can splash around in the water and YOU can rest!

Epcot

8. Club Cool in Epcot’s Innovations West section, near the large fountain. This is great place to grab a FREE Coca-Cola drink from places around the world (don’t forget to try the BEVERLY from Italy)! With tables and chairs available (and air conditioner), this is a great resting spot. Also outside near the fountain are places to sit for awhile. The kids LOVE to sit by the fountain for awhile and maybe get splashed with water! Instant cool-off and resting time!

9. Grace W.’s favorite resting spot in Epcot is Ellen’s Energy Adventure in Future World. It’s a 45-minute trip through time and Ellen DeGeneres’s subconscious. It’s a little boring, but it’s very cool and relaxing!! Best place ever to get re-energized for your trip around the World Showcase! We have been told by Kristi D., that THIS is her husbands most FAVORITE sleeping spot…Shhhhhhh…we won’t tell!

10. Speaking of the World Showcase, every country represented has it’s own “sitting area“, if you will. It’s a place in the center or the side of the country where you will find benches or other places to have a seat and relax. A bonus with these areas are the shows that are performed daily! 11. Paten W.’s favorite spot is the pin trading area (Pin Central), located in Future World. 

Hollywood Studios

12. Our friend Brandi P. LOVES to chill out in the One Man’s Dream in the Animation Courtyard section of Hollywood Studios. You will “follow in the footsteps of Walt Disney”, admiring his dreams over the years and then enjoy a 15 minute film-sitting down! SCORE!

13. Miki P. keeps her family cool and calm by checking out all of the shows, such as the Frozen Ever After Sing-A-Long!

14. Another great place in Hollywood Studios is the area above Tower of Terror. There are several benches and shady areas, making it the perfect get-a-way! Is it a coincidence that a coffee cart is right beside it? I think NOT! 

15. Oasis Canteen, near Echo Lake, serves old fashioned root beer floats! Also, Peevy’s Polar Pipeline (located close by) serves slushies! Lots of seating areas around!

Animal Kingdom

16. One of our readers, Stephanie T. takes her breaks in Animal Kingdom by riding the Wildlife Express Train. This train ride will take you behind-the-scenes from Harambe, Africa to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, giving you a much needed break…with a great view!

17. Over in Dino Land near Dino-Snacks is a great area with a large dinosaur for the kids to admire and several adorable seating options, complete with dinosaurs on the benches. There is also an ice cream cart nearby for those must-have Mickey bars!

18. Of course, in Animal Kingdom’s newest land, Pandora, there are tons of places to just sit and look around at the beauty! For more information on this brand new land, check out: PANDORA.

Other “Break” Areas

19. Hunter W. says his favorite is ANY of the Starbucks locations! We have to agree with Hunter, resting AND coffee are a perfect way to relax!

20. Last but surely not least for a great break, schedule a mid-day table service meal or grab a quick service meal. Our favorite sit-down meals include Tusker House in Animal Kingdom and Garden Grill in Epcot. Jennifer H. agrees that the Backlot in Hollywood Studios is a perfect location to cool off and rest. If you plan it just right, you can catch a glimpse of the Jedi Training Show!

Each of the four parks in Disney World are home to some pretty amazing attractions. Some are a little more intense than others and make for some pretty extreme fun. If you are looking for an attraction to take your breath away, these might just be for you! Please be aware that some of these have height restrictions. These attractions also offer Memory Maker.

1. Big Thunder Mountain in Magic Kingdom: “The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will take you on a fantastic journey…in a runaway train!!
2. Rockin’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios: Yes, this is THE ONE with Aerosmith and I promise, it WILL NOT disappoint! If you love blarin’ Aerosmith (and c’mon, who doesn’t?!) music and fast cars, then this one is for you! Go from 0-60 in seconds on this fast pace limo ride!
3. Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios: An old maintenance elevator and a very tall hotel..need we say more? This one is NOT for the faint at hear. Enter if you dare!
4. Test Track in Epcot: Presented by Chevrolet, everyone will love this one! Design the ultimate and then drive it!
5. Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom: Travelers “BEWARE the Legend”!! When you get to “the end”, the fun really begins!

Tips

• If you made it through these top 5 attractions for thrill seeking guests and are feeling a bit queasy, check out how to deal with motion sickness.
• Not everyone you are traveling with will be a “thrill seeker”.
• Look for the “single rider” line. This line is strictly for single riders and is usually a lot quicker than the regular standby line or grab a fast pass for these top attractions!
